CM invites investments in MP's real estate sector

Indore: Chief minister Mohan Yadav stated on Friday that the MP govt is committed to exploring and attracting investments in the real estate sector across the state while ensuring the provision of required amenities, including water, electricity, and transportation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The CM stated that the Growth Conclave, 'Next Horizon: Building Cities of Tomorrow', will give a new impetus to Madhya Pradesh's cities. Referring to two big infrastructures developed in Surat and Ahmedabad, Yadav said that at least 10 such markets should be built in MP as well. "MP, which is centrally located, has great potential for the real estate sector," he said. "Around 20 years ago, MP struggled for basic amenities, including water, electricity, and roads. Today, MP is supplying electricity to run the Metro train in Delhi. Using its resources, MP is on the path of progress but is also serving the country," he said, adding that the concept of a 'Metro City' will also be realised in MP. "MP has now built around 5 lakh km of roads, and as the state is centrally located, it is very beneficial for us," he said, adding that MP is working on all sectors, including road infrastructure, medical, industrialisation among others. He emphasised that accessible, swift, and safe transportation is the backbone of any modern city. Keeping future transportation needs in mind, the Bhopal and Indore Metro projects are being expedited. Multimodal transport hubs are being developed in cities like Jabalpur and Gwalior, and 582 electric buses will be introduced under the Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Seva Yojana in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Sagar. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Yadav affirmed that parallel to industrial development, rapid and large-scale work began in every sector, from metro and multimodal transport to lake conservation and smart command centres. He stated that this is just the beginning, and efforts will continue at a fast pace with everyone's cooperation. He also pledged to expedite and complete the redevelopment of the Hukumchand Mill land. He said that the conclave also saw significant MoUs being signed to accelerate urban development. An MoU between the MP govt and the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) aims to integrate various components of urban administration through technology for greater efficiency. Besides, an agreement was executed between the MP urban development company (under the urban development department) and the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO). Additionally, a sum of Rs 3,562.27 crore was approved for 257 projects related to used water management and infrastructure development under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The event also marked a major milestone in housing development. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 45,503 beneficiaries received new homes under PMAY 1.0, while 19,541 beneficiaries were handed over approval letters under PMAY 2.0. In total, funds amounting to Rs 2,799.26 crore were transferred to a total of 65,044 beneficiaries. A large number of investors participated and were provided with detailed information on the state's investment policies, industrial infrastructure, single-window system, and its vast potential.

Indore Metro Eyes Major Expansion to Boost Ridership, Financial Sustainability by Year-End

Q: Despite offering a safe, comfortable, fast, and eco-friendly ride, Indore Metro's ridership is continuously reducing. Commuters are demanding a rapid expansion of Indore Metro. What is the deadline for that? A: Any Metro project, including the one in Delhi, experiences low ridership initially; this improves significantly with track expansion and end-to-end connectivity. We aim to complete the civil works and system integration from Super Corridor's station number 3 to Radisson Hotel Square by Oct this year. Following inspection and approval from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, we anticipate extending Indore Metro's operations on this approximately 17.5 km-long 'Priority Corridor' by the end of this calendar year. We are hopeful of achieving considerable ridership on this stretch, as also demanded by commuters. Q: There is currently no dedicated parking facility for Indore Metro passengers. Will this discourage them from using this new mode of transportation? A: We are committed to developing parking facilities wherever feasible and have already begun identifying suitable land parcels. Furthermore, we will integrate other existing parking facilities, including those managed by Indore Municipal Corporation and Indore Development Authority and other relevant departments, to enhance convenience for Indore Metro passengers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Forget Furosemide, Use This Household Item To Help Drain Edema Fluid WellnessGuide Learn more Undo Q: There seems to be some confusion regarding the underground line of Indore Metro. Can you clarify? A: We finalised the plan and even awarded the contract for development of the underground line of Indore Metro, which will connect railway station to airport. The route and station locations for this underground tunnel are clearly defined and have been officially notified. Soil testing for this stretch was also completed. Q: What is the status of Automatic Fare Collection system, which was awarded to Asis Elektronik, a Turkish firm, for Indore Metro (along with Bhopal Metro), especially since the state govt has ordered an investigation to probe its link, if any, with any anti-India activity? A: The probe details were reported to Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and other concerned govt agencies. We are currently awaiting their instructions regarding this matter. Until then, manual ticketing facilities are available at Indore Metro stations. Q: The operational cost of Indore Metro currently appears to be significantly higher than the fare box revenue collection. What could be the reasons for this disparity? A: Our operational costs include fixed expenses such as electricity, security, staff salaries, and maintenance. As ridership increases and we extend operations over longer distances, the fare box collection will naturally rise, leading to a reduction in the per-kilometre operational cost. This is a common trajectory for new metro systems as they expand and gain more users. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!

Metro free ride ends with over 1.5L ridership, now avail discount on fares

Indore: Indore Metro's seven-day 'joyride' officially concluded on Saturday, with Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) reporting an impressive ridership of nearly 1.5 lakh people. They experienced the new mode of transport for free during its inaugural week. The joyride had commenced on June 1 on approximately 6 km-long Super Priority Corridor'. While the first week offered free travel, MPMRCL has announced a promotional discount scheme for the subsequent weeks. In the second week, commuters will receive a 75% discount on ticket fares. This will be followed by a 50% discount in the third week and a 25% discount in the fourth week. Currently, Indore Metro operates across five stations. The minimum fare for travelling between two stations is Rs 20, while the maximum fare for travelling up to five stations is Rs 30. With the promotional discounts, the minimum ticket (Rs 20) will be available for just Rs 5 per person during the second week, and the Rs 30 ticket for longer journeys will cost Rs 8 per person. MPMRCL PRO Himanshu Grover said manual ticketing will continue at Indore Metro stations. This is due to ongoing scrutiny of a Turkish company, which has been assigned the contract for Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for both Indore and Bhopal Metros, regarding any potential links to anti-Indian activities. A decision regarding shifting to automated ticketing will be taken once this scrutiny is complete.

Indore Metro begins commercial operation

Indore Metro commenced commercial operations on Sunday, marking a transformative step in the city's urban transportation landscape. While the initial hours saw a relatively low passenger turnout, riders steadily increased by noon, Metro officials reported and said despite the introduction of fares, public enthusiasm remained strong, with expectations of further growth in commuter numbers by evening. Currently, Indore Metro lacks an automated ticketing system, requiring manual compilation of ticket sales and passenger data. Authorities are working toward implementing a streamlined digital system, but for now, ticketing operations continue to be handled manually. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the first phase of the Indore Metro project on May 31, 2025, via video link from Bhopal. The launch coincided with the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar – the revered ruler of Malwa, where the Prime Minister addressed the 'Women Empowerment Mega Conference". During his speech, PM Modi highlighted Indore's global reputation for cleanliness and expressed confidence that the city would now also be recognized for its metro connectivity. The metro's initial operational plan included 50 trips per day, metro authorities said. However, due to the overwhelming response to free travel during the launch phase, the number of daily trips exceeded 100. Starting Monday, the metro service will revert to its original schedule of 50 trips per day. The fare structure has been set at concessional rates, with passengers paying a minimum of five rupees for short distances and eight rupees for a seven-kilometer journey. Promotional discounts will be in effect for the first three months, with fares gradually increasing to standard rates. Officials are now focusing on the upcoming 17-km trial run, which will extend the metro service from Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Hotel Square. This expansion is expected to significantly boost regular ridership, particularly among employees and students from major institutions such as TCS and Infosys, whose campuses are located along the route. Currently, the Metro operates within a seven-km stretch, primarily covering commercial zones. However, as the network expands, its impact on urban mobility and connectivity will become more pronounced, offering residents a modern and efficient transit system. The broader metro network, once fully operational, is expected to cover 31.32 km with 28 stations, further enhancing Indore's public transportation infrastructure.

Metro surpasses 50k ridership in 3 days

Indore: Indore's newly inaugurated Metro Train became an instant sensation, running 'overloaded' with thousands of enthusiastic citizens flocking to stations for a 'joy ride' on the city's latest mode of transportation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In just three days since its launch, the Metro comfortably surpassed the 50,000 ridership mark, a clear indication of the overwhelming public excitement. However, the current surge in ridership is expected to see a considerable drop after June 7, when the initial 'Joy Ride' period, offering free rides, comes to an end. Despite recording over 15,000 daily ridership between 8am and 8 pm, a significant number of travellers are eagerly awaiting the extension of the Metro. Currently, the Metro operates on an approximately 6 km-long 'Super Priority Corridor' on the Super Corridor. However, citizens are keen for its expansion to the approximately 17.5 km-long 'Priority Corridor' that will reach Radisson Square. Many believe this extended route will provide a "suitable" transportation option due to the comfort, hassle-free nature, economical fares, and its pollution-free, eco-friendly ride. Among the hundreds of passengers enjoying the Metro's maiden run were employees of a major IT company located on the Super Corridor. "I reside near Bapat Square and currently commute to the office on my bike," shared Rajat Sharma, an IT professional. He expressed his eagerness for the Metro's extension, hoping for an economical, weather-proof, and comfortable ride directly between his colony and the IT company's entrance. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sharma's colleague, Akshita, who lives near Chandragupta Maurya (MR-10) Square, highlighted her daily commute challenges. "The bus service recently stopped, and now every day, I have to somehow manage to reach the office," she told a local daily. "However, this will not be the case once the Super Priority Corridor of the Metro is commercially operational and extended." Madhu Mishra, an MBA student who also works part-time in Vijay Nagar, echoed the sentiment for a longer commercial run. "Apart from offering all these facilities and comfort, the Metro Train's fare is very reasonable," she added, emphasising the affordability of the new transport system. The initial overwhelming response clearly indicates Indoreans' readiness for a modern, efficient, and sustainable public transportation system. The true test and sustained success of the Indore Metro, however, will likely hinge on the timely completion of its extended corridors, promising a more comprehensive and impactful service for the city's commuters. Talk of The Town Overwhelming Enthusiasm: Despite light to moderate rains, thousands, including families, friends, and groups of children, flocked to the Indore Metro for its "Joy Ride," showcasing immense public excitement. Safety Measures & Awareness: While some excited passengers, mostly children, were seen pushing panic buttons, hanging on handlebars, or not maintaining distance from doors, security guards promptly educated them on rules and regulations, including penalties for violations. MPMRCL PRO Himanshu Grover stated no formal violations were registered, adding that over 150 security guards and extensive CCTV coverage ensure close monitoring. Big List of Do's, Don'ts and Violations with Penalties: MPMRCL issued a guideline for the passengers, which are pasted on all the stations and inside the Metro Train, to follow. Besides, information is also available to the public about the violations that can lead to penalties, imprisonment, or both. Free Rides Drive Initial Ridership: Many families and friends joined the "Joy Ride" due to the free travel offer. However, working professionals anticipate a significant drop in ridership once ticketing begins. Reasonable Fare Structure: Travellers have generally found the Metro's fare structure to be reasonable. For the current 5-station 'Super Priority Corridor' (Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor-03), fares range from Rs 20 to Rs 30. The broader Yellow Line, eventually covering 28 stations, will have fare slabs from Rs 20 to Rs 80, depending on travel zones. Promotional Discounts: To encourage public adoption, MPMRCL launched a three-month promotional discount scheme: free QR tickets until June 7, followed by 75% off in the second week, 50% in the third week, and 25% off up to the third month. Impressive Initial Ridership: MPMRCL officials reported approximately 26,000 passengers on the first day, and around 16,000 each on Monday and Tuesday, highlighting the strong initial public interest. |
