Indore secures top position in super swachh league, city celebrates presidential award
Indore: Indore on Thursday added another feather to its cap by emerging on top of the list of Super Swachh League cities to be crowned as cleanest city in the country for the eight time in a row. As Indore beat Surat, Navi Mumbai and Vijayawada to secure the victory in SSL category of cities with over 10 lakh population, Indoreans took to the street to voice their joy, bursting crackers, dancing to the tune of dhols and distributing sweets. State minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) commissioner Shivam Verma received the award from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. Indore secured 100% marking in door-to-door garbage collection, waste processing, and cleanliness of residential areas, market areas, water bodies, and public toilets. With zero dumpsites, Indore led the scorecard by securing 98% marking in source segregation, followed by Navi Mumbai with 95%, and Surat and Vijayawada with 92% marking each. The competitors lacked in categories of cleanliness of residential/market areas, cleanliness of water bodies, and toilets – areas where Indore had 100% success rate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo As the declaration was made, sanitation workers across Indore marked the achievement with jubilant celebrations. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav proudly declared, "Indore is once again at the forefront." He explained that the central govt placed Indore and similar cities in a separate league this time, conducting rankings for other cities independently. "Even within this league, Indore's result is paramount," he added. Bhargav emphasised that Indore has moved beyond the competition for the number one spot. "Now, Indore is in the role of a guide and will impart other cities lessons on cleanliness," he said, hinting at a new era of mentorship. On Thursday, the programme announcing Swachh Survekshan results was broadcast live on large screens at IMC headquarters, allowing residents to witness their city's triumph. Members of the IMC Council and officials joined in the celebrations.

Super Swachh League: Indore strengthens claim for top spot
Indore: Indore, which has been country's cleanest city for seven times in a row, now has Vijayawada as competitor in the 'Super Swachh League' along with Surat and Navi Mumbai in the above 10 lakh population category. The addition was made shortly before President Droupadi Murmu is expected to honour the cities that demonstrated exceptional performance in cleanliness at a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan on Thursday. At the time of introducing the elite 'Super Swachh League' as part of Swachh Survekshan 2024, there were 12 cities competing in different population categories based on their securing a position in the top three ranks in at least two years in the last three years (2021-2023) surveys. Relaxing some norms, 11 cities have been added to the elite league, including Vijayawada, which secured its best rank so far, third in 2021, official sources said. All eyes, meanwhile, are on Indore. Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) senior officials, who reached Delhi and participated in the rehearsal of the award distribution ceremony, are confident of receiving the prestigious award for the eighth time in a row. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "Indore's performance is exceptional, and we have been chosen to mentor another city to become like us," Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said in a video message from Israel. "Israel has expressed interest in understanding India's cleanliness model and Indore's waste management. We have tried to learn a lot from their innovations, and soon there will be a sister city partnership between a city in India and Israel," he said. The mayor requested Indoreans to honour and welcome the sanitation workers in their streets and neighbourhoods on Friday, a day after the award is announced. Indore's strong claim for the top position is bolstered by several key initiatives undertaken by the IMC as part of the 2024 Swachh Survekshan Toolkit. This year, IMC established a new plant for processing green waste, while its plants for cloth waste and glass waste processing are underway. IMC has also transformed some wards, zones, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and even slums into 'zero waste' areas and is making efforts to get this tag for Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya (zoo) and Choithram Sabzi Mandi (wholesale vegetable market). "This year, we did route rationalisation of the existing 575 door-to-door garbage collection vehicles by introducing 61 new routes. Besides, 100 electric-run D2D have been introduced as a step towards environmental conservation," IMC additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra said. He added that Indore's robust system for road cleaning, waste collection, and waste disposal remains its core strength, unmatched by many other cities. The city's residents also play a crucial role, demonstrating high awareness and refraining from littering. While Surat significantly improved its door-to-door waste collection last year, achieving similar scores to Indore, Indore's comprehensive and consistently implemented system provides a strong foundation for its continued lead. NGOs engaged with IMC have been carrying out massive campaigns throughout the year for clean air drives, rainwater harvesting systems, segregation of waste in six categories, zero waste events, and other activities to increase public participation to help maintain cleanliness.

According to senior officials of MPMRCL, ticketing will initially be carried out manually. The decision was taken after a probe was ordered against Turkey-based company which has been assigned contract for Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) of Indore and Bhopal metros, to find out if it was involved in any anti-India activity. "We have alternate arrangements, and thus, the ticketing will initially be carried out manually until further instructions from the state govt," a senior official said, adding that passengers will have the facility to pay the fare through QR-based systems. MPMRCL is also in talks with AICTSL to integrate bus services to facilitate last-mile connectivity for Metro commuters. A proposed route from Bada Ganpati to Indore Airport Terminal, via Super Corridor and up to Luvkush Square/ISBT, is also under consideration.
