Commercial truck driver charged for speeding, weaving through Hwy 400 traffic: OPP
A CMV is pulled over on Highway 400 at Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil, Ont. for allegedly speeding and weaving through traffic on Thurs., July 17, 2025. A provincial police officer stopped a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 400 in Innisfil for speeding and weaving through traffic, OPP says. In a post on social media Thursday morning, police say as the officer approached, the truck driver was trying to complete his pre-trip inspection paperwork. Ultimately, the officer ended up laying multiple charges against the driver and the company. 'Don't be in such a hurry. Slow down and be safe,' stated OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in the online post. Police launched 'Operation Safe Driver Week' this week, which targets dangerous driving habits among motorists, including commercial vehicle operators. During the week-long safety blitz, officers will be out on heightened patrols, monitoring for speeding, log book violations, and equipment issues, including faulty brakes and unsecured loads. One person air lifted after serious crash in Innisfil

On Tuesday, around 10:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at Big Bay Point and the 25th Sideroad. Roads remain closed at Big Bay Point, north of the 20th Sideroad and between 20th and 25th Sideroad for the police investigation. Officials confirmed that one person was air lifted to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. South Simcoe Police is advising all drivers to avoid the surrounding area while officers complete their investigation. It is unclear how the crash happened.

Police seek witness to fatal hit-and-run on Highway 89
Police investigating a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 89 in Innisfil hope to identify a motorist driving a white SUV who may have witnessed the collision. Officers say a woman's body was found on the shoulder of the highway near 5th Side Road on Sunday. They believe she was struck sometime around 2 a.m. She has since been identified as a 35-year-old from Richmond Hill. Police think the woman was walking along the Highway when she was struck by a blue passenger vehicle traveling east. The driver took off. Police say the vehicle has since been located. Investigators have learned the white SUV was traveling closely behind the suspect vehicle at the time of the collision. "Police believe the driver may have witnessed the incident and are seeking to identify and speak with them regarding any information they may have," provincial police stated in a Tuesday release. Anyone with information, including dash camera footage, is encouraged to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122, referencing incident number E250924642.

Contractors will be completing over two-kilometres of road resurfacing on County Road 27 from County Road 90 to Humber Street. This phase includes milling the existing asphalt surface, resurfacing with hot mix asphalt, line painting and the subsequent shouldering. This plan is part of the broader Transportation Master Plan update, which identified County Road 27 as a priority corridor due to growing pressure from regional development and rising traffic volumes. 'These improvements are necessary to support the arterial function of this primary travel corridor and accommodate planned growth in adjacent areas in both the City of Barrie and Town of Innisfil,' the County stated online. The resurfacing contract is scheduled to be completed by July 31, weather depending. 'Lane closures are occurring when workers are present. Traffic is alternating direction in the open lane with police officers directing traffic at the signalized intersections of County Road 90 and Ardagh Road,' said Collin Matanowitsch, public relations manager with the County of Simcoe, County Road 27 Construction is officially underway on County Road 27 - a key north-south route for both commuters and residents alike on July 14, 2025. Back in 2014, Simcoe County's Transportation Master Plan flagged the need to widen County Road 27 from County Road 21 (Innisfil Beach Road) to County Road 90 from two lanes to four lanes. Improvements were also considered along County Road 27 and County Road 90 to help ease northbound left-turn delays.
