Natsum 2025 in Kuching sets out to offer participants a dynamic blend of professional enrichment and cultural discovery. KUCHING (July 19): The National Summit (Natsum) 2025 is set to be taking place here this July 31 to Aug 3. Themed 'Empowering Minds, Building Legacies', the event is organised by the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Branch – Young Engineers Section (YES). 'The theme symbolises a renewed commitment to shaping the next generation of engineering leaders through inspiration, innovation and immersive experience,' said the organiser in a statement yesterday. To date, 128 participants consisting of young engineering students and graduates from IEM branches across Malaysia have registered for Natsum 2025, which is supported by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) Corporate sponsors include DURA Sarawak, Hartanah Construction, Solarvest Borneo, VNM Resources, EB Tech, SAIVER, NYKK Engineering Group, and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB). This event should provide participants with the unique opportunity to directly engage with Malaysia's future engineers in a prestigious and celebratory setting, while industry players are encouraged to join the 'Young Engineers Dinner and Recognition Night', set for Aug 2,' said the organiser, adding that State Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo would attend the dinner to take place at the Theatre Hotel Kuching. 'Natsum 2025 offers a dynamic blend of professional enrichment and cultural discovery, enabling participants to embark on exclusive technical visits including to the Sejingkat power plant and Sarawak Metro, offering a rare opportunity to explore cutting-edge energy systems and urban transport infrastructure. 'These experiences are designed to not only enhance technical knowledge, but to also foster real-world curiosity and interdisciplinary collaboration. 'Another highlight is the excursion to the Sarawak Cultural Village, where participants will engage in a curated team-building session rooted in Sarawak's diverse ethnic traditions and landscapes,' it said in the statement. The organiser added that sponsoring Natsum 2025 meant 'more than just logo placements'. N agpur: Sitabuldi police arrested two persons for snatching a mobile phone from an elderly man during his morning walk near the Institution of Engineers metro station on Monday. The incident took place around 6.30am when 80-year-old Sudhakar More, a resident of Dharampeth, was targeted by two bike-borne thieves. The duo forcefully snatched his smartphone worth Rs6,000 and fled the scene. Acting promptly on the complaint, Sitabuldi police registered a case under Section 304(2) BNS. During the investigation, cops utilised technical surveillance and intelligence to identify and apprehend the accused. The suspects, Junaid Khan Akhtar Khan (19), and Sheikh Shahbaz Sheikh Farooq (22), both residents of Bada Tajbagh area, were taken into custody. Upon interrogation, both confessed to the crime. Further questioning revealed their involvement in another mobile snatching case within the Sitabuldi police limits. Two mobile phones, with a combined value of Rs26,000 were recovered from their possession. The Sitabuldi Police's rapid response and thorough investigation highlight their continued commitment to public safety and swift justice.

Mohd Yaakob Jaafar has been re-elected to the post during the body's 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday. Supporting him for the new term are Vice Chairmen Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP, and Ir. Paul Yap. Ir. Dr. Michael Tay and Ir. Wong Chen Jack were appointed as Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, respectively, while Datuk Ir. Willy Chin was named Immediate Past Chairman. Eight committee members completing the new line-up are Ir. Wah Kheng Haw, Ir. Arius Yu, Ir. Randy Kuan, Ir. Brandon Galimam, Ir. Leona Ng, Ir. Aishahturizdah Ashgul, Ir. Nicholas Lim and Ir. Thien Sen Fong. 137 members attended the meeting. Mohd Yaakob Hj Jaafar was retained as the chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (Sabah Branch) during its 50th Annual General Meeting last Saturday at Le Meridien Hotel, Kota Kinabalu. The meeting started off with Mohd Yaakob welcoming 137 members to the annual affair. The event was made more meaningful with IEM President Ir. Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Chiang joining the meeting. Besides the reporting of the branch performance and audit statement, the members were also informed of new and upcoming events. These include the revamp of its website, the settlement of headquarters soft loan and the invitation to join the branch's Golden Jubilee Dinner on 14 June 2025. The AGM ended with the members witnessing the election of the new executive committee for the 2025/2026 session. Mohd Yaakob is assisted by Vice Chairmen Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP and Ir. Paul Yap. The Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer are Ir. Dr. Michael Tay and Ir. Wong Chen Jack respectively while Immediate Past Chairman is Datuk Ir. Willy Chin. The eight Committee Members are Ir. Wah Kheng Haw, Ir. Arius Yu, Ir. Randy Kuan, Ir. Brandon Galimam, Ir. Leona Ng, Ir. Aishahturizdah Ashgul, Ir. Nicholas Lim and Ir. Thien Sen Fong.
