Singapore to install smart buoys that provide real-time data to enhance maritime safety
Intelligent buoys will soon patrol Singapore's waterways, sending real-time data on currents and waves to the Maritime and Port Authority. This will enhance navigation safety and enable smarter traffic management across the nation's busy sea routes. The system is expected to be deployed from 2026. Meanwhile, emerging tech was put to the test today in a large-scale chemical spill drill — the first time such tools were used in a multi-agency chemical spill exercise. The biennial operation is part of efforts to boost Singapore's readiness in handling maritime incidents. Charlotte Lim reports.
