Police helicopter wreckage expected to be recovered within days
JOHOR BARU: The wreckage of the police-owned AS355N helicopter that crashed in Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, on Thursday is expected to be recovered from the water tomorrow or the day after. Internal Security and Public Order Department's Air Operations Force Commander Datuk Noor Sham Md Jani said the operation would be carried out with the assistance of the navy or the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). "We expect the wreckage to be lifted soon with help from either the navy or the maritime agency. "This is so that the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) can conduct further investigation into the incident. "God willing, the aircraft will be raised either tomorrow or the day after for the necessary procedures," he told reporters today after visiting the five crew members currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here. The AS355N police helicopter crashed near the Malaysian Maritime jetty in Gelang Patah during a fly-past demonstration as part of the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025 involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), in a statement, said the helicopter, bearing registration number 9M-PHG, took off from the Tanjung Kupang police station at 9.51am with five people onboard, including the pilot. Noor Sham also confirmed that the aircraft's voice recorder remains within the submerged wreckage. He said the device contains vital recordings of communication between the helicopter and ground personnel. "That's what we want to review, namely the communication that took place and how the incident unfolded," he added.

Factories raided, RM96mil goods seized, dozens of undocumented migrants arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have seized industrial goods worth over RM96 million and arrested dozens of undocumented foreign workers in a nationwide crackdown on illegally imported and uncertified metal products yesterday. The police, through the Wildlife Crime Bureau and the Special Intelligence Investigation Division under the Internal Security and Public Order Department, launched simultaneous operations at six factories in Johor, Selangor and Melaka. The integrated operation was conducted in collaboration with multiple enforcement agencies, including the Customs Department, Immigration Department, Department of Environment (DOE), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Sirim and local councils. Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the targeted factories were found to be importing, processing and distributing metal products including semi-finished and finished goods without proper certification from CIDB or Sirim. "Among the offences were failure to produce valid standard compliance documents (PPS) for metal items used in the construction sector. "These uncertified materials pose serious safety risks to users and the industry at large," he said. Azmi said enforcement teams also uncovered the illegal employment of foreign workers at the premises. A total of 60 people were detained and inspected, comprising three locals and 57 foreigners aged between 26 and 59, for various offences. The seized items included 11,000 units of rebar, 1,700 wire mesh rods, 1,500 wire rods, 152,830 hollow section steel bars, over 2,400 hot-dip galvanised steel coils weighing about 12,163.5 tonnes, cutting and welding machinery, cranes and forklifts, and 152 industrial gas cylinders. The estimated value of the confiscated items is RM96,350,231. "Investigations revealed that some of these items were end products intended for use in the construction industry, while others were semi-finished goods believed to have been smuggled into the country," Azmi said. Further investigations are being conducted under various legal provisions, including Section 33D of the CIDB Act 1994, the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and the Local Government and Building by-laws. Local authorities issued compounds worth RM12,000 for offences such as unauthorised building structures and unsanitary worker accommodations. Azmi said CIDB has seized uncertified metal products for further action, while the DOE took enforcement steps against factories lacking proper effluent treatment systems and hazardous waste management. He added that the operation is part of an ongoing effort to protect the local industry and ensure that only safe, certified materials are used in construction and other industrial sectors. From Jan 1 to July 4 this year, the police had conducted 161 raids nationwide, arresting 296 individuals for offences ranging from smuggling contraband and subsidised goods to trafficking wildlife and counterfeit weapons. The total value of seizures is estimated at RM540.2 million. "These operations demonstrate our firm stance in safeguarding national security, industry integrity and public safety," he said.

Cops seize over RM4mil in imitation firearms in KL, Selangor and Johor
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a syndicate selling imitation firearms online following simultaneous raids in Johor, Selangor and here, seizing over RM4 million worth of such weapons. The operations, codenamed Op Taring Bravo 3, were carried out yesterday by the police Internal Security and Public Order Department through its Wildlife Crime Bureau/ Special Investigation and Intelligence (WCB/PSK). Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said intelligence gathered through online surveillance led to coordinated raids on seven premises across the three states. "In Kepong, policemen raided two premises and arrested four foreign men where a total of 4,983 imitation firearms were seized, with an estimated value of RM4.11 million. "Police also discovered 1,400 brown boxes containing various snack products that were found to be in violation of the Food Regulations under the Food Act 1983," he said in a statement. Azmi said, in a separate raid on two business premises in Bandar Baru Bangi, a local man was arrested and 53 imitation firearms worth RM31,520 were confiscated. The premises were also found to be operating without valid business licences. "The third operation, targeting a residence in Batu Pahat, Johor, led to the arrest of another local man and the seizure of 15 imitation firearms valued at RM15,000. "The total value of all seized items from the three operations was estimated at RM4,160,070," he said. Azmi added that the suspects are being investigated under multiple laws, including Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of imitation firearms; several provisions of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for offences including illegal entry and hiring of undocumented workers; as well as food, planning and licensing violations. "The syndicate is believed to have been selling imitation firearms through online platforms over the past few months. "The operation was prompted by a number of recent crimes in which suspects were found using imitation firearms to threaten victims," he said, adding that such items could cause fear and panic among the public. Azmi also warned online platform operators to monitor content on their sites and prevent the sale of prohibited goods. The public is also urged not to buy or store imitation firearms and to report any such activity to the authorities.
