Iraqi PM meets US diplomats in Baghdad, denounces Israeli strikes
Baghdad ( – Following Israel's recent strikes on Iran, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Major General Kevin Leahy, Commander of the International Coalition to Combat ISIS, and Steven Fagin, the U.S. Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires in Baghdad.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani strongly condemned the Israeli attack, calling it an act of aggression and a serious violation of international law. He warned that such actions undermine regional and global security, especially as they occur during ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
The Prime Minister stressed that the timing of the strike reflects an intentional escalation that risks dragging the entire region into a broader conflict.
In response, both the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires and the Coalition Commander reiterated the United States' non-involvement in the strike and affirmed Washington's commitment to keeping Iraq out of the conflict, in accordance with the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement.
Al-Sudani also urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take urgent and responsible steps to uphold the prohibition of force and prevent the region from descending into widespread violence.
