Three-day international conference on mathematics begins in Dharwad

Srinivasa Rao Pentyala of Department of Mathematics and Computing of Indian Institute of Technology (School of Mines), Dhanbad, has said that in the recent days neural network, artificial intelligence, and applied mathematics were gaining popularity and mathematical models were gaining prominence. He was delivering the keynote address at the inauguration of the three-day 'International Conference on Mathematical Analysis and Applications', organised jointly the Department of Mathematics of Karnatak University and Pawate Institute of Mathematical Science in Dharwad on Saturday. Prof. Rao elaborated on various developments in the field of mathematics and application of mathematical models. Senior principal scientist and professor at Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (ACSIR), Pune, Kiran A. Kulkarni narrated his experiments in teaching and said that mathematics was gaining prominence in the recent years especially because of the researches and the applications. Inaugurating the conference, acting Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD), R.L. Hyderabad lauded the initiative taken by the department in getting mathematicians of international repute to the conference and facilitating sharing of knowledge. Former Vice-Chancellor of KUD H.B. Walikar said that the establishment of Pawate Institute of Mathematical Sciences was aimed at facilitating study of computer science, mathematics and statistics under a single roof. A huge building was being built to house the institute, by mobilising ₹11 crore from internal resources of the university. However owing to technical problems, the building had not been completed yet, he said, urging Syndicate members to take up the issue with the government to get the building completed. Registrar of KUD Arvind Mulimani said that in the era of challenges, new softwares were useful in analysis of mathematical models. On the occasion, the dignitaries released the souvenir brought out to mark the occasion. A total 72 mathematicians including 22 from various countries are participating in the international conference.
