Themed "Safeguarding Diversity of Human Civilizations for World Peace and Development," the two-day meeting attracted over 600 guests from 140 countries and regions. Why China proposed the Global Civilization Initiative Xi proposed the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) in 2023 after proposing the Global Development Initiative in 2021 and the Global Security Initiative in 2022. The three initiatives have earned international support as important public goods provided to the world by China. Noting that the path to global peace and development remains long and challenging, Cai called for joint efforts to explore diverse development models, strengthen cultural inheritance and innovation, advance cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and build a diverse and multi-dimensional global network for dialogue and cooperation among civilizations. Over the years, China has established a series of multilateral exchange platforms, such as the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations and the Conference on Dialogue Between Chinese and African Civilizations, and held a series of activities, including the China-ASEAN People-to-People Exchange Year and the Liangzhu Forum, building a platform for equal dialogue among different civilizations. According to a recent CGTN poll, respondents widely recognize inter-civilization exchanges and mutual learning as a crucial driving force for advancing human civilization and promoting world peace and development, adding that the GCI has evolved into a broad consensus for addressing global challenges. Italian scholars back China's multilateral vision, call for deeper partnership
ROME, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Italian experts hailed China's peaceful development path and called for deeper bilateral cooperation to promote global peace and stability at a seminar marking the 55th anniversary of China-Italy diplomatic relations last Friday. Giancarlo Elia Valori, president of the Foundation for International and Geopolitical Studies of Italy, highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries, tracing it back to Marco Polo. He also welcomed the recent UN decision to adopt June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, an initiative proposed by China. Chinese Ambassador to Italy Jia Guide reviewed the fruits of bilateral ties since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1970, and called for continued collaboration as guardians of peace and security, advocates of shared development, and models of mutual learning. In his remarks, Valori criticized the imbalance of the U.S.-led postwar global order and said China's vision of a shared future offers a fairer and more inclusive framework for international cooperation. China, South Africa mark Int'l Day for Dialogue among Civilizations
JOHANNESBURG, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in South Africa held an event on Thursday in Pretoria, the country's administrative capital, to mark the first International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. The United Nations General Assembly in June 2024 adopted a China-sponsored resolution declaring June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Wu Peng said that the initiative comes at a time when the world is grappling with turbulence and transformation. The observance aims to promote mutual learning, solidarity, and solutions to global challenges, he noted. As a firm advocate of civilization dialogue, China has consistently translated its vision into concrete actions, said Wu. For instance, the Chinese language has been included in South Africa's education system and Chinese universities have established degree programs in indigenous African languages. "As the initiating country of the resolution on the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, China stands ready to work with South Africa and the international community to foster inclusive coexistence and mutual learning among civilizations, and jointly compose a new chapter for building a community with a shared future for mankind," Wu said. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, a member of the African National Congress (ANC)'s National Executive Committee, said South Africa, with its unique struggle against apartheid and its commitment to peaceful transition, is a prime example of civilizations in dialogue. Dlamini-Zuma said South Africa and China have a long history of ensuring and pursuing peace. "As we move faster into a multipolar world, the international community must welcome this initiative by China to ensure dialogue among civilizations and peoples," she added. "Dialogue is a central feature of the foreign policy of South Africa and China. It reflects our shared commitment to diplomacy as the primary means of resolving conflicts," said Busani Ngcaweni, director-general of the National School of Government.
