Pedro Pascal Wanted to Go Full 1960s for Reed Richards in THE FANTASTIC FOUR but Marvel Pulled Him Back — GeekTyrant
Pedro Pascal is going full brainiac as Reed Richards in Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps , but it turns out his vision for the character was way more era-specific than Marvel expected. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Pascal revealed that he tried giving Reed a classic mid-century flair, right down to a Transatlantic accent. Given the film's alternate 1960s setting, it made perfect sense to him. he explained: 'They had to keep on pulling me back from a very Mid-Atlantic, early '60s kind of talk. They had a dialect coach that was sort of gonna help us into that kind of dialect. And I took to it so well… They were like, 'Uh, talk more like yourself.'' Pascal didn't exactly drop the idea overnight. He was deep in the headspace. He added: 'I had a hard time doing that because I was so into the era, which for me was something to step into so that it's different than what we've seen before. I think that what they've created is something that we haven't seen.' They should've let Pascal run with it! That could have added an interesting detail. Regardless, he is joined in the film by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and Julia Garner as Silver Surfer. With WandaVision 's Matt Shakman directing, and Pascal clearly invested in giving Reed Richards his own retro flavor, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is shaping up to be something distinct in the MCU. 'Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing—as they face their most daunting challenge yet. 'Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps in theaters on July 25, 2025.

Who is ‘world eater' Galactus and the female silver surfer Shalla Bal who feature in the trailer of The Fantastic Four First Steps
The Fantastic Four is being recast for the third time for Marvel's upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While fans of the cinematic adaptations of Marvel comics are familiar with the four superheroes, Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch) and Ben Grimm (The Thing), this is Galactus and Shalla-Bal's first appearance in the film medium. For all the MCU fans, new and old, here is a little dive into the background of these characters. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Galactus made his comics debut in Fantastic Four #48 back in 1966, five years after the superheroes got their first comic book. He was initially a space explorer named Galan whose universe ceased to exist after the end of the sixth cosmos (a reality which no longer exists), and he was approached by the sentience of the sixth cosmos. After fusing with the essence of the sentience, Galactus, the 'devourer of worlds', was born. Unlike most villains in comics and in the MCU, Galactus holds no malice against Earth or any planet; he just needs to consume worlds in order to sustain his own life force. In fact, Galactus has himself admitted that one day he will give back to the universe much more than he has taken, presumably at the end of the currently existing seventh cosmos. ALSO READ: Ironheart review: Marvel ends phase five with one of the worst shows of 2025 As the devourer of worlds, Galactus has several soldiers, which are called Heralds, who travel the universe and announce his arrival before he proceeds to consume all loving beings. One of his most well-known Heralds was Norrin Radd, who willingly volunteered to become his soldier in exchange for sparing his planet of Zenn-La. Radd was then converted to the Silver Surfer, who made an appearance in the film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). He served Galactus for numerous years, seeking uninhabited planets, but Galactus wanted to consume the energy-rich Earth, a decision that would cause a rift between the master and the servant. After being unable to consume Earth, Galactus punished Radd and created a force field that made him unable to leave Earth. From here we move on to a different Herald, Shalla Bal, who appears as the new Silver Surfer in the trailer for The Fantastic Four First Steps. Shalla was also an inhabitant of the planet Zenn-La and was Radd's partner. The two got close after Radd lost his mother, and soon they were making plans for their future. Radd eventually had to leave her side when he offered to become the Silver Surfer, and Shalla mourned the loss of her love. After several episodes consisting of mutiny, destruction and resurrection, Shall even became the empress of her planet. Her stint as the Silver Surfer occurred in an alternate reality titled Earth X, where she is turned into the Silver Surfer post the death of Galactus. Reed and Sue's firstborn, Franklin, assumes the role of Galactus in order to ensure the cosmic balance of the world. In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the character of Galactus will be played by Ralph Ineson, and his Herald, Shalla Bal, will be played by Julia Garner. The movie has been directed by Matt Shakman, and the rest of the cast includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film releases on July 25.

Robert Downey Jr's faith in entertainment industry reaffirmed after Marvel co-star's rise to fame
Robert Downey Jr. says Pedro Pascal's "slow trajectory" to becoming a "household name" has reaffirmed his "faith" in the entertainment industry. The acting heavyweights have grown close after shooting forthcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, and Downey Jr. is delighted to see Pascal is on a "wildly hot streak" after a gradual rise to fame. He told Vanity Fair magazine: "Pascal's slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry." Pascal's breakout role came in 2014 when he portrayed Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, and he went on to play Javier Pena in Netflix crime show Narcos. More recently, Pascal told how he heads to Downey Jr.'s house for Avengers cast "homework" days ahead of starring in Doomsday, in which he will play Reed Richards/ Mister Fantastic, and he praised his pal as "so immediately generous and inviting". Speaking about Downey Jr. - who will play Victor von Doom/ Doctor Doom in the 2026 movie - the 50-year-old actor said: "He's just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent." Vanessa Kirby will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday, as Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman, and she has found Pascal to be someone you can "trust". She explained to the publication: "He doesn't have much armour, so he shows himself to you straight away, and you trust that person because he's revealing himself to you in this very brave way." Pascal previously came under fire from some following a clip of him placing a hand on his Fantastic Four: First Steps co-star Kirby at a Comic-Con panel. However, the 37-year-old actress has insisted it was a "lovely gesture", and she was "very glad" to give his hand a squeeze in return. She said: "What happened is we were both incredibly nervous going out in front of thousands of people who love this comic. "He wanted me to know that we were in this together, and I found it a lovely gesture and was very glad to squeeze his hand back."

This Citizen watch is packed with Fantastic Four Easter Eggs – I think it's a must-buy for Marvel fans
I'll be honest – I'm not the biggest fan of comic book films. And most of the superhero-inspired watches I've seen? Gimmicky at best. But this new Citizen collab has genuinely caught my eye. As the world counts down to Marvel's reboot of the Fantastic Four, Citizen has dropped a limited-edition timepiece that nods to the iconic quartet in a way that feels thoughtful, and not tacky at all. It's the latest in the brand's ongoing Marvel series – and probably the best-looking one yet. It's certainly my favourite. The blue dial is stunning, finished with a vertical brush pattern that gives off serious cosmic vibes. Look closely and you'll spot white lume markers and a clever Easter egg at 12 o'clock: a distorted, wavy marker designed to mimic Mister Fantastic's famously stretchy limbs. You've also got a 9 o'clock marker that echoes The Thing's rocky form, a 6 o'clock marker shaped like a flame for the Human Torch, and a barely-there, translucent one for the Invisible Woman. It's reasonably subtle and very fun. Flip the watch over and you'll find the team's classic '4' logo on the caseback – a motif that also appears on the collectable coin included in the boxed set. The watch itself isn't just for show. It uses Citizen's excellent 41mm Zenshin case and is built from Citizen's own 'Super Titanium', which promises to be five times harder and 40-percent lighter than standard stainless steel. It's also hypoallergenic and resists scratches and rust. Inside, the brand's light-powered Eco-Drive tech means you'll never have to replace the battery. Only 1000 of these AW0131-66W 'Fantastic Four' models are being made, and at US$495 / £499, it's not a wild price for a limited-edition watch. You don't have to be a Marvel superfan to appreciate it – just someone who likes a decent watch with a bit of nerdy charm baked in. This Fantastic Four Limited Edition is available to buy soon on Citizen's website. Liked this? 3 of the hottest new watches for summer 2025
