Iowa basketball lands Trey Thompson, will reclassify to 2025 class

With Iowa basketball in its first offseason under new head coach Ben McCollum, the Hawkeyes received a significant impact to the team's immediate future on Saturday afternoon as 2026 four-star power forward recruit Trey Thompson announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes. The towering 6-foot-8, 220-pound native of Greeneville, Tenn., is listed as the No. 2 prospect in the state, No. 9 power forward, and No. 59 overall recruit in the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports. Advertisement Adding to the excitement, Thompson will also be reclassifying to the 2025 class, making him eligible for the 2025-26 campaign. In his three seasons on the varsity squad at Greeneville High School, Thompson has averaged 21.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game on 56% shooting from the field, 45% from 3-point territory, and 81% from the free-throw line, per his MaxPreps profile. Thompson chose Iowa over a list of other premier college basketball programs, which included Tennessee, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Clemson. The commitment is a major step in the right direction for the program, as recruits are now viewing the Hawkeyes' program as a much more desirable destination under the new leadership and infusion of talent to the roster. Caitlin Clark's Boyfriend Had One Word After Reuniting With Former Iowa Teammate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is widely regarded as the greatest women's college basketball player in Iowa Hawkeyes history. In her senior season, she averaged 31.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game. Advertisement During her time in Iowa City, Clark met her boyfriend Connor McCaffery, a former player for the Iowa men's basketball team. They overlapped for three seasons, from 2020-21 to 2022-23. McCaffery later served as the Indiana Pacers' basketball development coordinator during the 2023-24 season before leaving the role to become an assistant coach at Butler University for the men's basketball program. On Wednesday, The City League, a nonprofit organization that hosts a community basketball tournament, highlighted McCaffery and his former Iowa teammate Tony Perkins on social media. "Perkins had 14 points while Connor dropped 15 big ones in his team's ten-point victory. We look forward to watching these two over the next 5 weeks!" said The City League in the post. McCaffery is playing for a team representing NBA Math Hoops this summer, while Perkins is competing with a team of Lawrence North alumni. Advertisement McCaffery reposted the picture of the two of them on his Instagram, attaching a one-word caption to the story post. "Family!" he wrote. Connor McCaffery reposts @cityleagueindy's Instagram post. The winning team of the competitive basketball tournament in Indianapolis will be awarded a cash prize of $3,000. Kate Martin reveals skeptical Caitlin Clark first impression

The post Kate Martin reveals skeptical Caitlin Clark first impression appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Indiana Fever are lucky to have Caitlin Clark as the leader of the franchise. Clark is currently recovering from a quad injury but she is expected to return to the lineup soon. One of Clark's college teammates shared her first impression of the future superstar in a recent interview. Advertisement Valkyries guard Kate Martin shared her hilarious first impression of Caitlin Clark on Bird's Eye View on Tuesday. 'So I had heard about this Caitlin Clark and I was like watching videos of her just like having like 40 points, like averaging a million in high school,' Martin said. 'And I was like oh this girl thinks she's going to come here and rule the world you know like whatever. And there she did, came in right away and ruled the world and I was like alright here we go.' Martin joined the Iowa basketball program in 2018, but was redshirted during her freshman season while she recovered from a high school injury. Clark first came onto Martin's radar in 2020 when Clark joined the Hawkeyes as a freshman. Advertisement Martin grew up in Illinois, so she was not aware that Clark's AAU team was a big deal. That is, until she saw highlights of Clark and the 'All Iowa Attack.' Martin was clearly skeptical that Clark would dominate the college basketball scene during her first season. Of course, Martin could not have been more wrong. Clark ended up scoring 26.6 points per game as a freshman. Caitlin Clark would go on to become one of the best collegiate athletes in NCAA history. Her crowning achievement was breaking Pete Maravich's all-time scoring record. She is now the all-time leading scorer, among both men and women, in NCAA history. Advertisement Both Clark and Martin have had success in the WNBA as well. They have even played against each other a few times throughout their young careers. Clark and Martin will face each other once again when the Fever play the Valkyries on June 19th.
