Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal relishing Cricket World Cup challenge

Karachi, July 28 (UNI) Pakistan sealed their spot in this year's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup with a perfect Qualifier campaign at home. With five wins from as many games, the hosts punched their ticket in the eight-team tournament. Coming on the back of a stellar campaign, lead spinner Sadia Iqbal believes Pakistan are ticking all the right boxes going into the tournament set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting September 30. 'We had a good Qualifier campaign, the preparation was very good for it,' Iqbal was quoted in an interview with the PCB. 'We know that the competition is going to be tough at the World Cup, with all the big teams featuring in the tournament. We are preparing keeping that in mind with practice matches, variation, etc.' Iqbal was among the key contributors for Pakistan in the Qualifier campaign, snapping nine wickets during the tournament and finishing as their third-highest wicket-taker behind skipper Fatima Sana (13) and Nashra Sandhu (10). The 29-year-old tweaker continued her impressive run with the ball by reclaiming the No.1 spot in the ICC Women's T20I Bowling Rankings back in May, an ICC report said. Opening up on her individual feat, Iqbal said, 'This obviously depends on performances. The Rankings are determind based on performances. I try and give my 100 percent and everything else is a result of that." 'It's a big honour for me to become the No. 1 ranked bowler in the world while playing for Pakistan. It's always my desire to help lift the team to new heights with my performances," she said. 'I relish the added responsibility of the team relying more on me. It's challenging but I try and enjoy it,' Iqbal added. Pakistan will kickstart their Cricket World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on October 2, 2025 in Colombo. UNI BM

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal emphasised on Sunday that Gwadar's vast mineral resources hold significant potential for exploration, which with the development of modern infrastructure can be fully leveraged for economic growth. During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, Iqbal reviewed the progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and discussed preparations for the forthcoming Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting, where critical decisions are expected to further enhance bilateral ties between the two countries. Iqbal noted that the first phase of CPEC had been successfully completed, with the second phase now focused on industrial cooperation, agriculture, information technology, and social development. 'Connecting CPEC to Central Asia will foster regional economic stability and broaden opportunities for economic cooperation,' he remarked. Minister urges early commencement of transshipment operations between Gwadar, Persian Gulf The minister reiterated the government's strong commitment to ensuring the security of CPEC projects, underlining that the development of Gwadar and the establishment of Special Economic Zones remain top priorities. He further stressed that Pakistan is determined to optimize the full potential of Gwadar port, particularly in terms of trade. He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with China in the agricultural sector, emphasising that agriculture graduates trained in China will be pivotal in mitigating the challenges posed by climate change in Pakistan. He added that the establishment of the Pakistan Space Centre was a project of national importance and acknowledged China's critical role in ensuring its timely completion. Ambassador Zaidong reaffirmed China's unwavering support for Pakistan's development initiatives and assured that bilateral cooperation would continue to deepen in the coming years. Pakistan and China on Sunday discussed the progress of ongoing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and preparations for the upcoming Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting, where key decisions are expected to further strengthen bilateral ties. The development took place as Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal met with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong in the federal capital. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry also attended the meeting, which was joined by senior officials from both countries, a statement said. The two sides discussed the progress of CPEC projects and preparations for the upcoming JCC meeting. Iqbal said the first phase of CPEC has been successfully completed, highlighting that the second phase focused on industrial cooperation, agriculture, information technology and social development. "Connecting CPEC to Central Asian states will contribute to regional economic stability and economic cooperation," he noted, reiterating the government's commitment to improving and ensuring the security of CPEC projects. The minister asserted that the development of Gwadar and the establishment of special economic zones remained top government priorities, adding that Pakistan was fully committed to utilising optimally the port's full capacity. He stressed that the government was committed to fully capitalising on the deep seaport's trade potential while pointing out the vast potential for mineral exploration in and around Gwadar. "With the development of modern infrastructure, its mineral resources can be fully capitalised," he said. Iqbal also discussed continued collaboration with China in the agriculture sector, observing that agriculture graduates trained in China would play a vital role in helping Pakistan address the impacts of climate change. He said the establishment of the Pakistan Space Centre was of national importance, and that China would play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely completion of this strategic project. Ambassador Zaidong reaffirmed China's commitment to supporting Pakistan's development efforts. He assured that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand in the coming years.
