Suspect accused of assassinating gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons in court wait

Michael Riley's extradition hearing has been rearranged. The extradition hearing for the man accused of gunning down Scots gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons in a Spanish bar has been delayed. ‌ Michael Riley has been charged over the double assassination, which took place at Monaghan's Irish Bar in the city of Fuengirola after the Champions League Final. ‌ The Spanish authorities are trying to extradite him to Spain so he can go on trial over the killings, which took place in the Costa del Sol city on May 31 this year. ‌ But today it emerged that the hearing, which was due to take place in October, was being rescheduled for November, meaning the 44-year-old, of Liverpool, will spend an extra month behind bars. Riley, of Huyton, Liverpool, is remanded in custody at Wandsworth Prison and was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on October 9 for his extradition hearing. ‌ But today the court heard that the hearing is now expected to take place at the same court on November 20, five weeks later than originally planned. Monaghan, 43, and Lyons, 46, were key members of the Lyons crime gang, which has been at war with the rival Daniel mob for a quarter of a century. The feud started in the early 2000s when the Lyons gang were blamed after cocaine belonging to the Daniels was swiped from a safe house during a party. What followed was decade of tit-for-tat shootings, ambushes and knife attacks. Spanish police said Riley was a member of the Daniel gang, but Police Scotland have denied a link between the murders and their lengthy feud.

Michael Riley, 44, of Merseyside, appeared via a video link from Wandsworth prison at Westminster Magistrates Court this morning - six days after he was arrested in Liverpool. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Eddie Lyons Jnr, left, and Ross Monaghan died in Fuengirlosa on Mat 31 2 CCTV footage captured the incident at Monaghan's Irish Bar Spanish authorities have applied for the suspect to be shipped out of the UK as part of their ongoing probe into the double murder in Fuengirola. During a brief hearing that lasted around two minutes, Judge Bristow adjourned the matter for Riley to appear in person tomorrow due to the serious nature of the charges he faces. We told how the Lyons gang kingpins were drinking in Monaghan's Bar after watching the Champions League Cup final on May 31 when they were gunned down. A hooded assassin was captured on CCTV storming the boozer and shooting both men dead in front of horrified holiday makers and staff. Spanish cops launched a probe into the massacre that resulted in a suspect being identified and arrested on Friday, June 13. Riley initially appeared in court the following day and was remanded in custody after having been deemed a 'flight risk' by prosecutors. He returned to the dock today for a hearing that could see him extradited to Spain to face two murder charges. We told how cops in Spain and Scotland gave conflicting information over who is believed to have ordered the double assassination. Police Scotland first insisted three days after the slaughter they had 'no intelligence' to suggest the murders were connected to an ongoing turf war here. However, at a sensational press conference in Malaga this week their Spain counterparts said the man they want extradited over the killings was 'an internal member of the rival Daniel gang'. The DOWNFALL of Scotland's biggest gangster - Jamie 'The Iceman' Stevenson Part Two Malaga-based police chief Pedro Agudo Novo told reporters: "The double murder was carried out by a professional killer and member of one of the victims' rival gangs. "In this case we're not talking about an independently hired killer but an internal member of the rival Daniel gang who ends up assassinating two members of an enemy gang." That prompted the Scottish force to repeat their insistence there is no Daniel link to the slayings - a position also held by members of Monaghan's family. A relative of the murdered mob boss said earlier this month: 'The one thing people need to know is the Daniels are not behind this.' Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said: "We are not aware of any current evidence which suggests the deaths of these two men in Spain are linked to criminal attacks in Scotland being investigated as part of Operation Portaledge.' Career criminal Monaghan – who fled Scotland for Spain after a failed attempt on his life in 2017 – was tried but acquitted over the murder of notorious Glasgow hood Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll at an Asda car park in 2010. In August 2017 he and Eddie Lyons Jr, both members of the Lyons Glasgow crime family, were cleared of being involved in a brutal street attack on three men outside the Campsie bar in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire. Their deaths come amid an ongoing turf war in Scotland that's resulted in 48 arrests as part of Police Scotland's Operation Portaledge. The gangland carnage in Edinburgh and Glasgow began in March amid claims Dubai-based hood Ross 'Miami' McGill, 31, of East Kilbride sought revenge after blaming associates of caged capital kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, for using fake notes in a dodgy £500,000 cocaine deal.

Eddie Lyons Jr and Ross Monaghan murder cops 'had clear early suspect in Spain'

A clear image of the gunman who shot the pair dead was captured on CCTV as he fled the scene. Police probing the murder of Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr in Spain had a suspect within hours, it has been claimed. A clear image of the gunman who shot the pair dead was captured on CCTV as he fled the scene, it has been revealed. Lyons Jr, 46, and Monaghan, 43, were gunned down in Fuengirola after they watched the Champions League final on the evening of Saturday, May 31. The killer walked into the bar and calmly first shot Lyons Jr dead before targeting Monaghan. Shortly afterwards, graphic security camera images of his killing were released to the Spanish media - however, until now, the existence of other footage has never been made public. The gunman was in and out of Monaghan's Irish Bar within 25 seconds in what experts describe as a "military-style" killing. However, as he left, he was inadvertently caught on another CCTV camera providing police with a vital breakthrough. It is not known if his identity was immediately known to the Spanish or if that came after they liaised with their counterparts back in the UK. A source told the Scottish Daily Express: "This was absolute dynamite for investigators. The fact that his image was so clear provided them with a major breakthrough within a very short time. It is apparent that they knew who they were looking for extremely quickly." Authorities in Fuengirola believe the killer was picked up a short distance from the crime scene and driven the 270-mile, three-hour trip across the border into Portugal. Once there, it is thought the man boarded a flight at Faro Airport back to the UK. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! On Friday, Merseyside Police detained a 44-year-old male on an international arrest warrant on behalf of the Spanish. Michael Riley was later transferred from Liverpool to London, where he appeared before Westminster Magistrates' in connection with the double killing on Saturday morning. It is not yet known if the Liverpudlian will contest the application to return him to Spain. Within days of the murders Police Scotland issued a statement saying they were not in any way connected to the current ongoing gang war which has engulfed Scotland. Despite both victims being major players within the north Glasgow-based Lyons crime syndicate, the force said that there was nothing to suggest the deaths have any link to the feud.

Missing Brit's cause of death after his body found at bottom of lift shaft

Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, vanished on May 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, leading to a major search which has tragically ended with police saying that they have found his body A British man, who went missing in Malaysia after last being seen in a bar, died having 'fallen from height', said police, as the news came that his body had been found at the bottom of a lift shaft. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, vanished on May 27 in Kuala Lumpur sparking a massive search with his mum Leanne Burnett making an emotional plea where she said 'something is really wrong'. He had spent the past 18 months travelling on his own through southeast Asia while working remotely. And a tragic update from police in Malaysia said that the body of Jordan, from Southport, Merseyside, has been found. ‌ ‌ Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said in a statement that the force had "received information that a man was found lying on his back in the lift (shaft) on the ground floor of a (building) construction site". The body was taken for a post mortem after being recovered by police and rescue services. "The results found that the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height," Mr Rusdi said. "No criminal elements were found at the scene and the case has been classified as a sudden death report," he said, reported CNA, adding the body was identified by the victim's uncle based on a tattoo. Jordan's mum Ms Burnett had previously said in an appeal for information that her son's last known location was Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, at around 8pm on Tuesday, May 27, when he sent his best friend Owen a photograph of the pub's quiz night poster. He is also believed to have visited The Social, a bar near Healy Mac's. This week saw his family fly out to help in the search for Jordan, with Merseyside Police confirming officers were working with local detectives to find the software engineer. The software engineer's mum had said she felt "sick" and "numb" after her son went missing, saying he usually checks in with them while away. ‌ Ms Burnett said she checked her son's location location on Wednesday through the Find My iPhone function and saw he was at a residential block of flats near the bar. The desperate mother told the Liverpool Echo why she was particularly worried about her son as this was unusual behaviour for him. She said: "I have been been feeling just sick, numb. I just want to get over there, find him and bring him home. I want him to know we're looking for him and we're coming to get him. "I have no idea what has happened. All I know is something is really wrong for him not to contact anybody. I know what he's like and he knows how worried everyone gets at home, that's why he checks in all the time. "If he was to lose his phone and laptop, if someone had stolen that off him, he knows my number by heart and he would contact. He would go to the nearest hotel to use the phone, or go to an internet café. He'd find a way to get hold of us."

Missing British man found dead at the bottom of a lift shaft in Malaysia

A body found at the bottom of a lift shaft in Malaysia is that of a British backpacker who disappeared more than a week ago. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, vanished after last being seen at a bar in Kuala Lumpur on May 27. His family issued an emotional appeal to find him and even flew out to the country to help the police search. But his body was found in a construction site lift shaft in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday, Malaysian authorities confirmed. A post-mortem found the 25-year-old's cause of death as a chest injury sustained from a fall from height. Police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said no criminal elements were found at the scene. The mystery of Jordan's whereabouts began when his phone went dead on Friday, May 30, during his 18-month backpacking journey across Asia. He had been working for an American company on his travels and arrived in Malaysia on May 17 from Vietnam. The 25-year-old from Stockport had last sent his best friend Owen a photo from inside Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar on the evening of Tuesday, May 27. It is also believed the software engineer visited The Social, a bar near Healy Macs. Mum Leanne Burnett, 44, checked 'Find My iPhone' tracking service and saw Jordan's phone was in a residential flat nearby the next day. But two days later, his phone went dead, which concerned the family as Jordan regularly checked in with family. Leanne had only just spoken to Jordan on the Monday of that week, when seemed 'fine and normal', she told the Liverpool Echo. With the search for Jordan running dry, Leanne and her husband travelled to Kuala Lumpur to look for their son. Merseyside Police also confirmed their officers were working with local detectives to find the software engineer. Brickfields district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed to AFP that Jordan's body was the one found on the construction site. More Trending A FCDO Spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Malaysia and are in contact with the local authorities.' The family previously spoke of their devastation as they tried to find Jordan. Leanne said: 'I have been been feeling just sick, numb. I just want to get over there, find him and bring him home. 'I want him to know we're looking for him and we're coming to get him.' Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page.
