DJB issues instructions to ensure uninterrupted water supply at Kanwar camps
Ahead of the Kanwar Yatra beginning July 11, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has issued instructions to ensure uninterrupted water supply at Kanwar camps across the Capital.
In an order made available this week, DJB CEO Kaushal Raj Sharma has directed all officials to coordinate with district magistrates and the Irrigation and Flood Control department to make timely arrangements. 'To ensure the well-being and convenience of these pilgrims, it is imperative that adequate water supply is provided in and around the camp areas, especially considering the ongoing monsoon season,' the order stated.
Superintending engineers (Maintenance) have been directed to treat the matter with the 'utmost priority' and ensure all arrangements are in place well before the yatra begins.
The DJB has stressed the need for 'assured potable water supply' at all designated camps. It also directed officials to deploy sufficient number of water tankers and prepare a fixed daily schedule outlining the frequency and volume of supply.
At larger and well-established camps, the DJB has suggested setting up temporary water connections or stand posts, but only after proper technical assessment confirms safety and feasibility.
The order also mandated regular water quality checks. Water supplied through tankers and temporary setups must be tested frequently to ensure it meets potable standards.
To streamline implementation, nine superintending engineers have been appointed as nodal coordinators to liaise with the respective district magistrates. 'In case of emergency, officers not below the rank of executive engineer shall handle water supply issues,' the order stated.
