Boy, 14, in court on murder charge after death of 16-year-old

A 14-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a 16-year-old after a disturbance on a beach. Kayden Moy, from East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, was found seriously injured on Irvine beach in North Ayrshire after police were called to the area at about 6.45pm on May 17. He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he died a short time later. The 14-year-old was charged with murder when he appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday. He was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody. Two 17-year-old youths appeared in court on separate days last month charged with murder following the incident.

In a statement previously released through the force, his family thanked all those who have shown support. Busby AFC, where Kayden played in the youth set-up for several years, launched a fundraiser for his family and has raised more than £15,000. Meanwhile, police enquiries remain ongoing and an online portal has been set up to allow members of the public to submit information directly to the investigating officers. Detective Chief Inspector Campbell Jackson said: "I'd like to thank members of the public who have come forward and continue to ask anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, to contact us."

Another 17-year-old male was previously arrested and charged in connection with the death, and appeared in court on Tuesday. He made no plea when he appeared in private when charged with murder, attempting to pervert the course of justice and carrying an offensive weapon. The second male was arrested on Thursday and has since been charged. He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday. Detective Chief Inspector Campbell Jackson, of Police Scotland's major investigations team, previously said: 'Our specially-trained officers continue to support Kayden's family and keep them updated with the progress of our investigation. 'I'd like to thank members of the public who have come forward and continue to ask anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, to contact us.
