Insider claims Lakers are talking to Heat about Andrew Wiggins

There has been lots of talk about the Los Angeles Lakers' dire need for one or two serviceable centers and the centers they could or should go after. But they also have a need for an impactful two-way wing who can effectively guard perimeter players. With Jimmy Butler long gone from the Miami Heat, they could at least be open to trading Andrew Wiggins, the main piece they got back from the Golden State Warriors in the trade that sent Butler to Golden State. Wiggins has been a borderline star wing for several years, and he was an All-Star starter three years ago who played a key role in Golden State's most recent NBA championship. Lakers reporter Anthony Irwin said on Tuesday that the team "checked in on" Wiggins. On Wednesday, he wrote in an article for ClutchPoints that discussions between the two teams regarding the 30-year-old have progressed. "The Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat have maintained further negotiations on a trade involving Andrew Wiggins, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity," Irwin wrote. According to Irwin, forward Rui Hachimura could be the player the Lakers are trying to center a package around. "The Heat would be looking to land Rui Hachimura and his expiring contract, plus further expiring money to match salaries." But Irwin noted that there is still work to do if this trade is to actually take place. "After reporting the Lakers checked in with the Heat about Wiggins' price, sources tell ClutchPoints that trade talks have advanced to the next step, though nothing is considered imminent as of right now." Wiggins averaged 18.0 points and 5.8 3-point attempts a game while hitting 37.4% of those 3-point attempts this season. He can guard multiple positions, and he possesses ample athleticism. He was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers as LeBron James was about to return to the team, but he was subsequently sent away in a three-team trade that brought Cleveland Kevin Love.

Classified document leaks US' attack on Iran did not wipe out country's nuclear program

Honorary Associate Professor Tony Irwin discusses the Israel-Iran war and Iran's nuclear program. According to a preliminary classified report, the US military strikes on three of Iran's nuclear facilities did not destroy the Iranian nuclear program. Reports suggest Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed, and strikes just set the program back by a few months. 'We don't know where this 400 kilograms of 60 per cent highly enriched uranium is,' Mr Irwin told Sky News Australia. 'We don't know whether it's been moved to a safe place or whether it's destroyed. It seems likely that Iran may've moved it to a safe place.'

Glenn Irwin's team offers new update on rider's health after horror crash at Snetterton

Irwin came off on Saturday morning and suffered fractures to his pelvis and hip. He narrowly avoided being struck by his brother Andrew and Scottish rider Rory Skinner, who did not see him lying at the side of the track amidst a cloud of dust. The Carrickfergus man was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and will miss the next round at Knockhill in Scotland. In a statement, the Hager PBM Ducati team confirmed a replacement rider is being sought to fill in for Irwin. 'After lengthy discussions with his medical team, Glenn is scheduled to undergo surgery on his sacrum (pelvic region) this Thursday morning,' the statement read. 'We understand the serious nature of this injury and our heartfelt thoughts and best wishes are with Glenn during this difficult time. 'Following the procedure, we'll be focusing on his recovery with an intensive rehabilitation plan. Until that gets underway, it's not possible to predict a timeline for his recovery and his return to the Hager PBM Ducati team and the British Superbike Championship. 'We know Glenn will be greatly missed from the BSB grid, and we're truly grateful for the overwhelming support and kind messages we've received. 'The understanding from the sponsors and the series organising at this difficult time is also most appreciated, and the team is working hard on finding a suitable stand-in rider with the aim of being back on track at Knockhill.' Irwin was only 12 points behind England's Bradley Ray before the Snetterton round but said his championship hopes had been 'ruined' by the crash. Ray claimed a second successive BSB treble on the Raceways Yamaha at Snetterton to make it seven victories from eight races so far in 2025. The 28-year-old holds a 30-point advantage at the top of the standings over reigning champion Kyle Ryde. In a video message posted to social media from his hospital bed on Saturday night, Irwin said his ambition of winning the BSB title remained unaltered. 'I apologise to the team because we've ruined our championship challenge for sure, we will be missing for a little while,' he said. 'But, in true 'Glenn' spirit, we're resilient, we're determined, we will be back, and the goal is what the goal has always been, and that's to lift the British Superbike Championship.'

Patna Science College struggles hard to fill sanctioned seats

Patna: Once considered a Mecca for pursuing higher education in science and the dream college of every student, today the 98-year-old Patna Science College, a constituent unit of Patna University (PU), is struggling hard to fill up even its sanctioned seats. Patna University sources said only 545 boys and girls secured their admission against 660 sanctioned seats in different honours subjects in the college till Tuesday evening. As many as 1,115 seats remained vacant as the applicants did not turn up for admission despite two rounds of counselling and two weeks after the commencement of admission. The college was born in July 1927 after the separation of science teaching from Patna College (formally inaugurated on Nov 15, 1928, by the then Viceroy, Lord Irwin). Since then, the college made significant strides in the field of science teaching and research, with most of its alumni occupying top positions in different fields. Patna University's former vice-chancellor and the college's former principal, Jagannath Thakur, who was also an alumnus of this college, observed that an institution takes a long time to build its reputation, but it is ruined in no time. Neither the govt nor the public tried to save the reputation of this premier institution. Consequently, talented students started migrating from Bihar to other places for better education, he said. College principal Atul Aditya Pandey admitted that the authorities' alleged indifference towards the various shortcomings of the institution has been telling upon its academic performance. He pointed out that at present, there are only 31 regular teachers, including him, against 110 sanctioned posts. Similarly, only 64 non-teaching employees are working against the total sanctioned posts of 214 in the college. He further pointed out that present-day students are mostly interested in doing medical or engineering courses. Hence, instead of joining basic science courses in local colleges, they try for some 'sunrise' courses outside the state, he said. The college's former principal and Aryabhatta Knowledge University's founder vice-chancellor, Shambhu Nath Guha, held the delinking of intermediate teaching from the college solely responsible for its deteriorating standard. Earlier, the cream of students passing the matriculation examination with very high marks used to join this college, and invariably they completed their post-graduation studies from here. Bihar State Pollution Control Board's former chairman and college alumnus Ashok Kumar Ghosh, said the college has failed to introduce any new innovative course during the last one decade or so. While several other local colleges have been conducting dozens of such 'modern' courses for the last several years, Patna Science College has introduced just three new courses īn the last two or three decades, he said.
