Maple Grove native Isaac Collins reflects on budding MLB career

The Collins Crew took over Target Field in this past weekend to see one of their own. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Isaac Collins is from Maple Grove, Minnesota, and is in his first full year in the big leagues. "I just remind myself each day that this isn't here forever," said Collins. "You gotta take it one day at a time and soak it all in and have fun with it." Collins played college baseball at Creighton, then was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 9th round in 2019. It took a while for him to get to the MLB level. Now, at age 27, he's been stacking big moments for Milwaukee. His batting average was at .254 following the Twins series, and he has become a fixture in the lineup. "Five-and-a-half years or so in the minor leagues. A lot of sleepless nights. A lot of questioning if this is the right path and if I should be doing something else," reflected Collins. "But I just stuck with it and kept taking it one day at a time. Made the adjustments whenever they needed to be made, and it paid off." Collins was one of the best Minnesota prep athletes of his era. He graduated from Maple Grove High School in 2016. Besides baseball, he was also a dominant running back. "A lot of good memories," said Collins, of his football career in which he was a Mr. Football finalist in 2015. "Definitely would not be here without those moments. Coach [Matt] Lombardi was one of the best coaches I've had. Very integral part in who I am as a person and as an athlete." The weekend in Minnesota was good for Collins. He had four hits and three RBIs in front of dozens of supporters. Not as happy an outcome for fellow 2016 Mr. Baseball finalist (and winner) and current Twin Matt Wallner. "We played against each other since we were 10-11 years old," smiled Collins. "Forest Lake kid. I always remember him. He was the tallest kid on their team, and he threw gas when we were 11 years old. He's been killing it. Having a great career so far. I played Michael Busch the other day. It's always cool to see other Minneapolis kids in the big leagues."

Isaac Collins (3 RBIs), Brewers rout slumping Twins 9-0

June 21 - Isaac Collins went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and the Milwaukee Brewers pulled away for a 9-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis. Brice Turang and Sal Frelick also doubled and drove in a run apiece for Milwaukee, which beat the Twins for the second straight day and will go for a three-game sweep on Sunday. Christian Yelich followed up on his eight-RBI performance in the series opener by going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Carlos Correa doubled for Minnesota's only extra-base hit. The Twins have lost eight of nine games. Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (5-2) tossed six scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, walked four and struck out one before giving way to the bullpen. Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (2-4) gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out three. Right-hander Grant Anderson and left-hander Aaron Ashby combined for three scoreless innings of relief for the Brewers. It was the team's second shutout in the past eight games. The Brewers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first. Frelick scored on a throwing error by Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers and Turang lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. One inning later, the Brewers doubled their lead to 4-0. Jackson Chourio hit a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Collins, and Yelich delivered an RBI infield single that scored Caleb Durbin. Milwaukee pounced on the Twins' bullpen for three more runs in the eighth. Collins started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center. Durbin added an RBI groundout and Frelick made it 7-0 with an RBI double to center that scored Joey Ortiz from first base. Collins finished the scoring with a two-run double to right in the ninth, driving in Rhys Hoskins and Turang. --Field Level Media

Jose Quintana pitches 6 crisp innings as the Brewers beat the struggling Twins 9-0

Jose Quintana pitched six innings of three-hit ball, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Minnesota Twins 9–0 on Saturday. Isaac Collins had two hits and three RBIs for Milwaukee in its third consecutive win. Brice Turang had two hits and scored two runs. The Brewers improved to 6–2 in their last eight games and moved a season-high seven games over .500 at 42–35. The Twins had four hits in their eighth loss in nine games. They lost 17–6 in the series opener on Friday. The game was played under an excessive heat warning. The feels-like temperature reached 105 degrees with little breeze. Quintana (5–2) struck out four and walked one. Grant Anderson pitched an inning before Aaron Ashby finished the shutout for the Brewers. Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (2–4) allowed four runs – three earned – and four hits in six innings. Milwaukee scored two runs in each of the first two innings. Turang hit a sacrifice fly in the first, and Christian Yelich's RBI single made it 4–0 in the second. Harrison Bader misplayed a flyball that allowed Turang to score the first of three Milwaukee runs in the eighth. Key moment: Caleb Durbin beat a throw to second base that could have potentially started a double play in the second inning. Instead, Milwaukee had the bases loaded with nobody out. Key stat: Minnesota's Brooks Lee grounded out three times, ending his career-best 19-game hitting streak. It was the longest active streak in the majors. Up next: Right-hander Quinn Priester (5–2, 3.46 ERA) starts for Milwaukee on Sunday against Minnesota right-hander David Festa (1–1, 4.78 ERA).

Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski is perfect through 6 vs. Twins in his 2nd career start

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers has a perfect game through six innings Friday against the Minnesota Twins, extending his run of hitless innings to start his big league career to 11. In his second career start, the hard-throwing 6-foot-7 right-hander has struck out six with a fastball regularly reaching triple digits and a slider and changeup in the mid-90s. He's at 80 pitches. Misiorowski threw five no-hit innings against St. Louis on June 12, but left in the sixth with cramping in his right calf and quadriceps. The closest Minnesota got to a hit was a sinking liner off the bat of Ryan Jeffers that left fielder Isaac Collins slid to catch the fifth inning. Christian Vazquez it a ball to the warning track in the sixth. At Triple-A Nashville this season, Misiorowski was 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA in 13 appearances, 12 starts. Milwaukee leads Minnesota 3-0. ___ AP MLB:
