F1: Liam Lawson energised to perform in Austrian GP

New Zealand F1 driver Liam Lawson. Photo: Eric Alonso / PHOTOSPORT Liam Lawson and Racing Bulls are likely to face similar issues they had in Canada a fortnight ago when they take on the Austrian F1 Grand Prix this weekend. Racing Bulls were well out of the points in Montreal and the team will hopefully have fixed any issues in the time since. Racing Bulls admitted they lacked pace to challenge for the top ten in Canada with team principal Laurent Mekies hoping they could change that in time for Austria after some work back at the team base in Britain. Lawson's cause wasn't helped when he was forced to start from the pit lane after the team made some changes to his power unit. Unfortunately, cooling issues forced him to retire late in the race. He can only hope the car is at its best because Red Bull Ring is a unique circuit where the margins become even finer. It is one of the shortest and fastest circuits on the calendar with drivers completing a lap in just over a minute. It has just ten corners, but has three DRS zones allowing for overtaking. The downforce setting becomes critical to balance the speed of the straights and the grip needed on the fast corners. Lawson has raced there a number of times in junior categories. "I've really enjoyed the track, but obviously in F1 it will bring an entirely new pressure," Lawson said. "I'm coming into this weekend with fresh energy following Canada and am ready to fight for points with the team." Both Lawson and Isack Hadjar have spent a lot of time in the simulator since Canada, while chief technical officer Tim Goss said they'll "take forward some further setup adjustments to maximise the car's capabilities". Qualifying will again be the key to picking up points. Lawson has made the third part of qualifying just once this season and that was in Monaco when he went on to grab his only points. Meanwhile, Red Bull have confirmed that British youngster Arvid Lindblad will get his first grand prix weekend outing at the British GP at Silverstone next week. The 17 year old obtained his FIA Superlicence earlier this month. Lindblad, who won the Formula Regional Oceania Championship in New Zealand last summer and currently races in F2, will be involved during Friday practice at Silverstone. Until now Ayumu Iwasa has been the only reserve driver for both Red Bull and Racing Bulls.

F1 Rookie Ranks Lewis Hamilton's Brazil 2021 Win the Greatest Moment Ever

F1 Rookie Ranks Lewis Hamilton's Brazil 2021 Win the Greatest Moment Ever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. F1 has turned 75 years old in 2025 and there are thousands of moments fans and drivers could choose from, but for one rising star on the grid, nothing beats Brazil 2021. Advertisement Speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast, F1 rookie Isack Hadjar was asked to name his favorite moment from all of F1 history. His response? Unfiltered and unforgettable. 'I'm going to be so controversial now. And I love it,' Hadjar grinned. 'Brazil 2021. I'm a big Lewis fan. That was a BIG weekend. That was big. That was an amazing, amazing weekend.' It's a pick that still gives goosebumps to Hamilton fans. At the 2021 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from qualifying, started the sprint race from the back, charged through the field to P5, then started the main race from P10 and still won the race with one of the greatest drives in modern F1 history. Lewis Hamilton arrives in the paddock ahead of the Saudi Arabian weekend, Hamilton pulled off 24 overtakes in total and reignited the title fight with Max Verstappen in spectacular fashion. The crowd in Interlagos erupted. Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff slammed his headphones in celebration. Advertisement And Hamilton held the Brazilian flag on the podium in a Senna-esque moment that etched itself into the sport's folklore. For Hadjar, it wasn't just a win — it was a statement. Now racing in F1 himself, the young French driver's admiration for Hamilton is clear. And picking Brazil 2021 over decades of iconic races only underlines how that performance has become legend — not just for fans, but for the next generation of drivers. F1 Rookie Reveals What Makes Lewis Hamilton So Dangerous on Sundays

F1 Rookie Reveals What Makes Lewis Hamilton So Dangerous on Sundays originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Few drivers have left a deeper imprint on F1 than Lewis Hamilton and rising star Isack Hadjar just spelled out exactly why. Advertisement Speaking candidly about the seven-time world champion, Hadjar praised Hamilton's race-day mastery, calling it the most impressive part of his game. 'For me, it's all about his race pace,' Hadjar said. 'Like how he can start from the very back and end up racing George, you know?' Referring to Hamilton's comeback drives in the 2024 season and consistency under pressure, Hadjar pointed how Hamilton regularly turns difficult grid positions into podium fights, often battling his teammates like George Russell even after starting near the back. 'It's this race pace advantage he had on his teammates when he was with Valtteri [Bottas] as well,' he added. Lewis Hamilton during previews ahead of the Monaco truly separates Hamilton, according to the 19-year-old French rookie, is his approach in traffic. 'When he was in the pack, he was always having this different approach, different lines… avoiding dirty air,' Hadjar explained. 'If there's like this train of DRS cars and everyone is six tenths apart, he would have three tenths to the car ahead.' Advertisement In Hadjar's words, Hamilton's 'Sunday drive is mighty,' a testament to his adaptability, tire management, and instinctive racecraft honed over nearly two decades at the pinnacle of motorsport. As Hadjar finds his footing in F1, the influence of a living legend like Hamilton clearly looms large. And with quotes like these, it's obvious the next generation is still learning from the master. F1 Rookie, 20, Raises Concerns as Alleged Attitude Problem Comes to Light at NYC ‘F1' Movie Premiere: ‘Not Stoked'

F1 Rookie, 20, Raises Concerns as Alleged Attitude Problem Comes to Light at NYC 'F1' Movie Premiere: 'Not Stoked' originally appeared on Parade. As F1 gears up to hit theaters on June 27, the 2025 Formula One grid is stepping out in style, ready to show their support at the F1 movie premiere in New York City tonight (June 16). Well, maybe not the entire grid, as one F1 driver is facing controversy after seeming rather uninterested in the oh-so special evening: Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 Team rookie Isack Hadjar. For those who are unfamiliar, F1 — directed by Joseph Kosinski, written by Ehren Kruger and starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Javier Bardem and more — is a film centered around the life of Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a fictional F1 driver from 1990s who retired after a terrible accident, revisiting the racing world to join rookie Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Idris) on the on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP). While the movie itself looks nothing short of sensational, fans are equally as excited for cameos from their favorite F1 drivers, who will make brief appearances throughout F1: Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Nico Hülkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Nyck de Vries, Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon. Although he will not be featured in the film, Hadjar put on his finest fit to attend the F1 movie premiere, rocking an oversized brown suit that looked cool-as-can-be. He paired the blazer with a white Hugo shirt underneath, and to accessorize the outfit, the 20-year-old opted for a bold black watch, as well as some black-and-white sneakers. While Hadjar certainly posed for some sexy solo shots, he also caught up with his Visa Cash App Racing Bulls buddies, snapping some photos with his teammate, Liam Lawson, as well as team principal Laurent Mekies and CEO Peter Bayer. How sweet is that? Although Isack was all smiles in a majority of the photos from the F1 movie premiere, as mentioned previously, Formula One fans jumped to conclusions after the official Formula One Instagram account shared an image of the French driver looking rather grim. "Why Hadjar looks sad bro 😭" one fan wrote in the comment section of the post, while others added "Hadjar did not wanna be there 💀" and "Isack was clearly not stoked to watch this movie again 💀" "Someone check up on Hadjar and Lawson," a fourth fan wrote, looping his teammate into the allegationa as well. Based on the rest of the photos and videos from the evening, we're going to go out on a limb and say that the official Formula One Instagram account caught Hadjar in a bad moment, but could there be more to the story? Needless to say, we will be obsessively refreshing social media for the rest of the evening for any further updates. Hadjar aside, be sure to mark your calendars — F1 will hit theaters on June 27, and it is truly a must-see for Formula One fans everywhere. Liam Lawson: 'It's been a tough, tough weekend'

New Zealand driver Liam Lawson at the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix. Photo: Eric Alonso / PHOTOSPORT New Zealand driver Liam Lawson has had to endure another tough weekend in Formula One. Lawson failed to finish Monday's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. After qualifying at the back of the field, the young Kiwi was forced out with 14 laps remaining with technical issues with his Racing Bulls car. "It's just been a tough, tough weekend which is a shame," Lawson said afterwards. He was forced to start his first Canadian GP from pit lane after his team made changes to his power unit post qualifying. The 23-year-old was put on a one pit-stop strategy but was unable to make inroads on the field. He was eventually told to retire the car as it was suffering from cooling problems. It is the third race he's failed to finish this season. "It's disappointing, obviously it was going to be a very difficult race anyway from the pit lane. "We had a cooling issue at the end so unfortunately we had to retire." Photo: GEOFF ROBINS His Racing Bulls team-mate Isack Hadjar also struggled with pace and finished 16th, with just Lance Stroll behind him. "The hard fact is that we didn't have enough pace today to fight in the top 10," Team Principal Laurent Mekies said. "It's a tight battle in the midfield and even only one-tenth can make the difference, and today it was enough to drop back instead of attacking forward." By not picking up any points Racing Bulls slip further behind Williams in the Constructors' Championship and now sit in seventh place on the same points as Haas. With Fernando Alonso finishing seventh for Aston Martin they are now just six points behind Racing Bulls. Lawson is 18th in the Drivers' Championship with the four points he picked up with his eighth-place finish at Monaco. "We'll keep working on the speed and I'll keep working on myself to reset ahead of Austria," Lawson said. Round eleven is in Austria at the end of the month. "Looking back at the last few months, every single improvement we've made as a team has been made after tough weekends like this one in Canada. We certainly take some positives from this weekend and the fight is on, so we'll keep pushing all together," Mekies said.
