Panel Session Titled: 'Redefining University Leadership for the Future' Held as Part of the Sixth Conference of University Presidents in the Islamic World
As part of the Sixth Conference of University Presidents, organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ICESCO in Rabat, H.E. Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), chaired a high-level panel session titled: 'Redefining University Leadership for the Future', with the participation of a distinguished group of university presidents from various member states of the Islamic World Organization. The session focused on discussing the fundamental transformations which are reshaping higher education globally, and the evolving role that university leadership must adopt in response to rapid changes related to technology, artificial intelligence, flexible education, and the shifting nature of the labor market. In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Mansoor Al Awar emphasized that: 'University leadership is no longer confined to traditional academic management. It has become a forward-looking responsibility that demands innovative thinking, the ability to build partnerships, and the foresight to anticipate change, in order to ensure the sustainability and impact of universities in serving humanity and society.' The session addressed three key themes: The transformation of the university president's role from academic leadership to proactive, system-oriented leadership. Effective partnerships and governance as tools to strengthen trust and community impact. Designing new leadership models built on flexibility, collaboration, and future-oriented outcomes. The session witnessed dynamic engagement from participants, who underscored the need to prepare a new generation of university leaders equipped with innovation tools and change-making abilities, without compromising the core values of education and scientific research. The session concluded with a clear call to develop a new leadership model in Islamic universities—one that balances academic excellence with institutional agility and lays the foundation for a renewed social contract between the university and society.

ICESCO, Malaysia Discuss Partnership for Inclusive, Sustainable Education
Mohamed Mandour As part of his participation in the annual ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting, Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Fadhlina Sidek, Malaysia's Minister of Education. The meeting focused on exploring ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the fields of education, innovation, and heritage preservation. Her Excellency the Minister presented key initiatives of the Malaysian Ministry of Education, which have made the country's education system a comprehensive model for achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4). She noted that education in Malaysia is guided by a holistic vision that values quality, equity, and sustainability. For his part, Dr. AlMalik commended Malaysia's educational experience and stressed the importance of strengthening international partnerships to achieve inclusive education for all. He also highlighted ICESCO's initiatives in this regard, including its ongoing cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in support of the international PISA assessments. Dr. AlMalik invited Dr. Sidek to participate in the third Ministerial Conference on PISA, which will be organized by ICESCO in Samarkand in November 2025, and is considered an important platform for exchanging expertise and encouraging educational policy reform in Member States. The meeting also touched on the Greening Education initiative, launched by ICESCO in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, which aims to develop long-term strategic visions in the field of education. Dr. AlMalik also underscored the importance of integrating values of peace into school curricula and embedding them into the educational policies of Member States. The two sides also discussed the issue of girls' education in Afghanistan. ICESCO Participates in UNESCO's GEMR Advisory Board Meeting
Mohamed Mandour The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) took part in the 10th Meeting of the Advisory Board for the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEMR), held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. ICESCO was represented by Faizah Alaoui, Education Sector expert, who joined other members to exchange insights and offer strategic guidance on global education issues. The meeting addressed ways to improve education quality and develop effective education policies, with a focus on preparing young leaders and strengthening leadership skills in schools. Working sessions also reviewed outlines of upcoming editions of the report, future orientations, and strategies to enhance the report's global influence in shaping education policy and decision-making. Three Winning Technological Projects at ICESCO Youth Training Program
Mohamed Mandour The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) concluded its program on training youth on setting up and developing small projects in the fields of technology and innovation in the Republic of Sierra Leone. The close of the training program, implemented by ICESCO's Science and Environment Sector, in partnership with the Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone, was marked by the announcement of three winning projects, out of the 49 participating teams at the national level. During the two-day event, contestants presented their projects before a jury. During his remarks at the opening session, Dr. Muhammad Sharif, Advisor at the Sector of Science and Environment, stressed the importance of integrating the youth of the Islamic world in the fields of entrepreneurship, modern technology and innovation to contribute to achieving sustainable development in their communities. Winning first place, the Mamawa Muyengay Agric Business team presented their project to integrate and improve the living conditions of youth, women and the elderly in rural areas through building their capacities in the fields of cassava farming.
