#SHOWBIZ: Sunset Jam offered something special

THE Sunset Jam music event packed a full house as crowds gathered at Heritage Valley in Kuala Lumpur recently for a laid-back showcase hosted by Fly FM and Hot FM, featuring Jakeman, Arif and Alya Kamaluddin, and the anticipated deejay debut of Khairy Jamaluddin, spinning under the name CAGE. The venue buzzed with anticipation well before sunset, offering ample space to dance, chill and grab coffee from the pop-up vendor. People of all stripes streamed in, from regular party-goers to curious onlookers who've never seen a former politician work the turntables. Everyone came for one thing, and it was to see if KJ could actually DJ or if they'd witness an epic fail. The evening kicked off with Arif and Alya, who proved they belonged on the lineup. Arif bounced through rhythm-heavy sets peppered with playful samples that had the early crowd nodding along, while Alya's layered electronic beats with smooth transitions that showcased real skill behind the decks. Both drew the early arrivals in and kept the feet moving, laying the foundation for what was to come. When CAGE finally stepped into the booth for his first-ever DJ set, the energy shifted. Here was a man who'd spent years navigating political stages now facing his biggest test yet: making a room full of strangers dance to his beat. KJ then took the crowd on a nostalgic journey through his personal greatest hits, a curated blend of timeless anthems from "This Is How We Do It" to "Islands in the Stream," seamlessly mixed with recent chart-toppers like "Espresso". The setlist felt like flipping through the pages of a beloved mixtape with each transition sparking cheers of recognition. Were there stumbles? Absolutely. Transitions fell flat at first, beats missed their cue, and some drops dragged longer than necessary. But considering he'd trained for just two weeks under the guidance of DJ Julian Fernandez from DJs Playground, CAGE did rather well. "I wanted something familiar, to play stuff that people know," KJ explained about his track selection, and it showed because it felt like this was all about creating a shared experience. People weren't just nodding along, they were singing full choruses with hands up, turning the place into a living-room dancefloor. For someone with zero professional DJ experience, CAGE demonstrated something you can't teach: the ability to read a room and keep people engaged. Years of public speaking had clearly prepared him for this different kind of performance. Jakeman wrapped the evening with a closing set that reminded everyone what professional DJing sounds like. He brought out the classics, which included smoothly sliding in Datuk Sheila Majid's iconic hit "Sinaran" and delivered the kind of flawless performance that gave the evening its perfect sendoff. By the end, Sunset Jam proved that you can throw a massive, well-produced party without losing the connection that makes these events special. The crowd hadn't just come to be impressed, but they'd come to move, connect, and be part of something fun. As for CAGE, he may be new behind the decks, but judging by the cheers and the genuine smiles among the audience, this probably won't be his last set. There was something refreshing about watching someone embrace being a beginner again, especially when they do it with such enthusiasm. With Sunset Jam 2.0 already on everyone's mind and social media buzzing with videos of the event's highlights, this might be the start of something special.

Tattooed tennis sensation issues 5-word vow to fans after romping into last 16

Sonay Kartal is on the verge of a quarter-final spot after blasting her way past Diane Parry in Friday's third round match, and is enjoying the pressure at SW19 Tattooed tennis sensation Sonay Kartal - who has vowed to get a new inking after Wimbledon - romped into the last 16 at SW19 on Friday. And she vowed "I'm going to go swinging," as she bids for a quarter-final spot on Sunday. British Fan favourite Kartal, 23, blasted past France's Diane Parry and afterwards thanked her stack of pals cheering her on in Court One. The Brighton-based star, who stands at just 5ft4in tall, has caught the eye this year with her retro Adidas outfits and quirky tattoos - of which she has 14. ‌ She told after her latest victory how she loves 'old school' 1990s and 2000s music and how her favourite karaoke song is Dolly Parton's Islands in the Stream. Sonay, whose dad is Turkish and used to run restaurants in Brighton, has tattoos that include an eagle, a snake, the year 2022 to signify when she first played in four Grand Slams. ‌ She has several on her knuckles which have no meaning, plus a bee she got during the French Open and two quotes, one saying 'time is everything we have and don't', and another that says 'the show must go on'. She previously said her favourite was a paw print of her first dog, a large golden retriever, which she has on the back of her arm. And laid-back Kartal is taking all the hype in her stride as she prepares for a crack at Russian veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for a place in the quarter-finals. 'I enjoy it. I think it's an honour,' she said. 'Obviously if you've got a lot of attention on you, it means you're doing good things. I'm pretty calm and pretty collected. I don't think it's going to affect me too much. But no, I'm just enjoying it all. I'll still pretty young. It's my first fourth round. 'I feel like I'm going to go out on the court in the next round kind of with nothing to lose at the minute. I'm going to go swinging." Kartal, or Karts as she is called by those that know her well, first started playing tennis at the age of six at Pavilion & Avenue Tennis Club, where she still trains. Sonay, who did not take the usual route to tennis stardom as she could not always afford coaches, was backed from around the age of 19 by the LTA. Off court, animal-lover Sonay says she tries to spend as much time as possible with her family and her latest dog, Blue, who she takes for 'adventures' along the coast. ‌ Asked about Dolly Parton being her go-to karaoke song, she responded, laughing: 'Oh Islands in the Stream, yeah.' On Wednesday, when asked what her 15th tattoo could be, she invited the public to send ideas that she would consider. ‌ 'I'm open to suggestions,' she said. 'Like if people throw me some good ideas, I will definitely consider them - 90% I would end up going with one of those ideas. If people want to send me their ideas, I will most likely pick one of them and will probably chuck it on somewhere.' Sonay was last year pictured with then-boyfriend, bodybuilder Luke Ogbourn, who she is understood to be no longer with. But she still had plenty of support in the crowd, saying: 'I had all my closest family in the box, coaches that I've been with. 'Then I had a lot of people scattered on the seats all from kind of like my club, members that I've known since I was six. Yeah, that was super special. I couldn't necessarily see them, but I could hear a lot of familiar voices in the crowd, which was definitely nice.'

These exquisite tents also come with sheepskin rugs as well as the option for your own private en-suite toilet and shower block. Forking out for one of these tents starts at £8,225 with the price rising if opting for the en-suite extras. This covers the cost for two people staying in the tent including their festival ticket entry. Model and singer Jackie could be seen striking a pose inside the perfectly preened tent. In another snap, the couple could be seen enjoying a breakfast in bed with their food served on a wooden slate - a far cry from the realities of being in one of the Somerset festival's regular camps. The pair appeared to be living it up in style across the full weekend. Dermot Mulroney Files for Divorce From Wife Prima Apollinaare, Asks for Spousal Support

Dermot Mulroney has filed for divorce from his wife, Prima Apollinaare, after nearly 15 years of marriage. The 61-year-old actor submitted a dissolution of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, to a Los Angeles County Superior Court on June 21, documents obtained by show. He did not include an exact date of separation and simply wrote TBD. Mulroney and Apollinaare, a musician, tied the knot on December 9, 2010. They share two children together: 17-year-old Mabel Ray Mulroney and 15-year-old Sally June Mulroney. In the documents, the 'Chicago Fire' star requested joint legal and physical custody of their daughters. He is also asking the court to terminate spousal support for Apollinaare and grant him spousal support, instead. Their division of assets and property will be determined at a later date. In addition to his daughters, Mulroney is a father to 26-year-old son Clyde Mulroney, whom he shares with ex-wife and actor Catherine Keener. The two actors were married from 1990 to 2007. Mulroney and Apollinaare appeared together on the Fox game show 'We Are Family' in February 2024, according to Entertainment Weekly. Apollinaare participated in the Season 1 finale of the show, which highlighted the singing talents of celebrity relatives as contestants guessed their true identities. In the episode, Apollinaare performed 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' by The Shirelles before her husband secretly joined her for a duet of 'Islands in the Stream' by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Apollinaare's identity was revealed later in the episode when Mulroney came out on stage and sang with her again. Speaking about their time on the show, Mulroney told EW, 'It was such an amazing phone call to get that the show reached out to us. They knew Prima's music and put together that we are this sort of secret couple even though we've been together for 20 years. Kind of a stealth Hollywood couple. So it really works perfectly for this show.' Apollinaare said they agreed to be on 'We Are Family' when they learned it featured contestants like nurses and first responders who could win money. 'We both like to do karaoke together and we both like music so much. It was actually, for me, it was really an amazing experience to be on television and singing. Of course with my husband, I play with him all the time in the house,' she shared. Late last year, Mulroney booked a starring role on 'Chicago Fire,' which films in the Windy City, as Chief Dom Pascal. The show wrapped its 13th season in May.
