EU Sets 90% Emissions Cut by 2040
Israa Farhan The European Commission is set to propose a new legally binding target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, marking a key milestone in the European Union's long-term strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. This anticipated legislation follows a 2023 recommendation by the Commission calling for a 90% cut in emissions compared to 1990 levels. The new proposal, expected on Wednesday, would turn that advisory target into a binding commitment for all EU member states. Currently, the EU mandates a 55% reduction in harmful emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The latest data from May shows that the bloc is on track to reach a 54% reduction by the end of the decade, narrowing the gap to the official 2030 target. The European Commission has urged national governments to fully implement their climate strategies to ensure that emission goals are met on schedule. These climate targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, which seeks to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. As part of its obligations under the agreement, the EU must submit a comprehensive climate action plan through 2035 before the COP30 UN Climate Conference in Brazil this November. The overarching goal remains achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, balancing any emissions released with those absorbed naturally or through advanced technologies. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence"

US, Japan, India, Australia Launch Critical Minerals Partnership
Israa Farhan The United States, Japan, India, and Australia have jointly launched a strategic initiative to secure critical mineral supply chains, signaling a united front against overdependence on China's mineral dominance. The four nations, collectively known as the Quad, unveiled the partnership during high-level talks in Washington, DC, aimed at enhancing economic resilience and technological security across the Indo-Pacific region. In a joint statement, the Quad emphasized the urgent need to diversify sources and processing of essential minerals—key components in semiconductors, renewable energy technologies, and defense industries. The alliance warned that reliance on a single nation for refining and manufacturing exposes global supply chains to economic coercion, price volatility, and strategic disruption. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted his counterparts—Australia's Penny Wong, India's Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Japan's Takeshi Iwayو underscoring a shared commitment to advancing collective economic security. Rubio called the meeting a turning point for translating strategic vision into concrete outcomes, noting that around 30 to 40 companies from Quad nations would soon begin talks on mineral supply chain diversification. Although the joint communiqué avoided direct mention of China, the implications were clear. The Quad expressed concern over destabilizing activities in the South and East China Seas and reaffirmed the importance of a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. The group also condemned recent North Korean missile tests and the Pahalgam terror attack in India, highlighting their shared stance on regional security challenges. The Quad, originally conceived as a democratic counterweight to Beijing's growing influence, has renewed its focus on strategic cooperation amid an evolving geopolitical landscape. US President Donald Trump is expected to visit India later this year for a follow-up summit, reinforcing the alliance's long-term goals. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence"

Australia's Qantas Cyberattack Exposes Data of 6 Mln Customers
Israa Farhan Australian flag carrier Qantas has confirmed a significant cybersecurity breach affecting a third-party customer service platform, exposing personal data belonging to about 6 million customers. The airline revealed that the compromised system, operated by an external service provider, was targeted by cybercriminals who accessed customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth. However, Qantas emphasized that no payment information or passport numbers were stored on the affected platform. The breach did not impact flight operations or aircraft safety, according to the company. Qantas has launched a full-scale investigation to assess the scope of the data compromise and is working closely with Australia's National Cyber Security Coordinator. While the full extent of the breach is still being determined, early assessments suggest a substantial volume of data was accessed. In a public statement, Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson issued an apology to affected customers, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the importance of maintaining customer trust. The airline is currently contacting impacted individuals and providing guidance on available support measures. This incident follows a separate privacy issue in 2024 when a mobile app glitch briefly exposed some passengers' travel information, raising renewed concerns over Qantas' data protection protocols. Cybersecurity experts have called for increased vigilance in the aviation sector, warning that data breaches of this scale underscore the growing risks associated with third-party platforms handling sensitive customer information. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence"

Half of Europe at Severe Heat Risk by 2050
Israa Farhan An extraordinary heatwave is sweeping across Europe, North Africa, North America, the Middle East, and Central Asia, with temperatures soaring well above seasonal averages, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported Monday in Geneva. The WMO warned that rising temperatures are intensifying heat stress and contributing to higher mortality rates, particularly in urban areas. According to the report, by 2050, nearly 50% of Europe 's population could face extreme risk from high temperatures, especially in the southern, eastern, and western parts of the continent. The agency linked the escalating intensity and frequency of heatwaves to human-induced climate change, emphasising that prolonged heat spells are becoming the new norm. It labelled extreme heat a 'silent killer' and urged countries to implement early-warning systems and national emergency plans to safeguard lives. The WMO explained that the current heatwave is being driven by a persistent high-pressure system trapping hot air from North Africa over Europe. As a result, several countries are experiencing record-breaking temperatures not only in July — typically the hottest month in the Northern Hemisphere — but also unusually in June. Spain reported temperatures of 46°C in the south, while Portugal, Italy, and Greece recorded similarly high figures. France issued a red heat alert for 16 departments, warning of a serious threat to life, and Switzerland activated a yellow alert in multiple regions including Geneva. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence"
