Ryan Reynolds' pal Rob McElhenney files to legally change his name and reveals why
Rob McElhenney is tired of having so many syllables in his last name. The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, 49, filed legal documents in Los Angeles to officially change his name, TMZ reported. Rob Mac is what he's going with, eliminating most of the name that has been difficult and annoying for the co-owner (with Ryan Reynolds) of Wrexham's football club. His More Better Productions has been investing in soccer teams in South America and he finds South Americans can't wrap their tongues around his multi-syllabic surname. He's been going by Rob Mac in his business endeavors for awhile. 'As our business and our storytelling is expanding into other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even harder to pronounce, I'm just going by Rob Mac,' he told Variety last month. Rob was worried he might ruffle the feathers of his ancestors with the name change. However, he soon learned that he wasn't going to be the first McElhenney to change their moniker. Some relatives had already made their own changes to their last name over the years. And those that hadn't changed their name were excited to do so when they learned that he was. His wife, High Potential and Hacks star Kaitlin Olson and their two teenage boys are still getting used to the Rob Mac idea. 'The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name,' Olson said. 'And so do I, legally!' Rob and Kaitlyn met on the set of It's Always Sunny in 2005 and began secretly dating during the FX comedy's second season. They married in Malibu in September 2008 and welcomed their sons in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Rob Mac is what he's going with, eliminating most of the name that has been difficult and annoying for the co-owner (with Ryan Reynolds ) of Wrexham's football club. Seen here November 17, 2022 But they almost didn't meet as Rob wasn't thrilled to be casting Kaitlyn in Its Always Sunny. Sunny came out of a low-budget project that Rob Mac, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton dreamed up. At her audition, Olson read with Day, while her future husband directed. At one point, he told her to improvise. 'I let go of the already funny stuff and concentrated on leveling up the rest of the material,' Olson recalled to Variety. 'After, I called my manager and said, "The audition was great. I want this job. But I'm so pissed that I left out the funniest line that was already in there, because I was so focused on just making everything bounce better,"' she said. As it turns out, McElhenney wrote that funny line. 'So she leaves the room, we're no doubt 100% thinking she was awesome,' McElhenney remembered. 'But I don't know if her instincts were 100% right, because she left out the funniest line,' he said. 'Now, is it a coincidence that I happened to write that line? I was 26 years old, and probably very precious with what I was writing,' Rob explained. Fortunately, Rob's partners talked him out of discarding Kaitlin for the role of Sweet Dee. When he called to offer her the project, she turned it down because she discovered the funny lines she was reading weren't for her character. 'When they offered me the part, I asked for four scripts,' she said. 'And I was shocked, because they didn't have anything funny for Sweet Dee.' Sweet Dee was written as a nag, whereas the guys all got the jokes to deliver. McElhenney explained that with their shoestring budget, they hadn't been able to write new scripts to reflect where they wanted to go with Dee. He promised his future wife her character would be funny and Olson gave in and joined the cast.

Danny DeVito nearly died on 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' set: book
The gang turns twenty. TV's most outrageous sitcom 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' is celebrating its 20th anniversary this summer – as the show first premiered on FX in the summer of 2005. Author Kimberly Potts' new book out July 1, 'It's (Almost) Always Sunny in Philadelphia: How Three Friends Spent $200 to Create the Longest-Running Live-Action Sitcom in History and Help Build a Network,' details the show's unlikely rise to prominence and behind the scenes stories. Advertisement Potts, who has also written a book about 'The Brady Bunch,' told The Post that during her research she learned how Danny DeVito nearly died while filming the series. 10 Kimberly Potts' new book about 'It's Always Sunny.' Advertisement During the Season 11 episode 'The Gang Goes to Hell: Part Two,' the group is on a cruise, and are trapped in a room that has a leak. The episode aired on March 9, 2016. 'They're swimming, they keep rising to the top. And to shoot that scene, they were underwater,' Potts explained, noting that the water level is rising. 'At one point, Danny got accidentally kicked, I think, in the shoulder –- close to his head. As I've been told, he nearly drowned,' she added. 'It certainly had everyone afraid he was in trouble.' 10 Danny DeVito as Frank underwater in 'The Gang Goes to Hell: Part 2.' Created by Rob McElhenney and co-developed by Glenn Howerton, the show follows a group of narcissist and sociopathic friends who own a pub in the titular city: Dennis (Howerton), Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (McElhenney), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Dennis and Dee's father, Frank (Danny DeVito). After they rescued DeVito, 'he was very frustrated by that situation,' Potts recalled to The Post. 'He just quietly left, and the day was over for him. So even he has a threshold for how far he's willing to go. But for the overwhelming majority, their experience with him is great,' she acknowledged. 'Kaitlin Olson has called him the happiest person she's ever known.' A few years later by 2009, Comedy Central would pay over $30 million to acquire syndication rights. Potts attributed their success to 'building slowly.' 'In the beginning, FX didn't have a lot of money for marketing, so they'd do those wild creative marketing campaigns with graphics and go to college campuses. They had a huge college and high school fan base. Those people graduated, and now they have [teenage kids] they watch it with.' She also cited how YouTube launched the same year the show did, which helped certain scenes go viral. 10 Author Kimberly Potts. Rashidah DeVore Photography 'With any story like this, certainly there is some luck involved,' she said. 'To do something like this now — in the current climate of TV — I think it would be almost impossible. People don't get the chance to have that time and grow an audience. And gel as a cast and gel with writing staff and show people across several seasons what they can do.' Advertisement So, she said, many factors went into the mix of their unlikely success, including the fact that 'they are legitimately friends in real life.' In 2009, 'It's Always Sunny' even brought a play on tour: 'The Nightman Cometh,' which originated as a play within the show. The cast went to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Seattle. 'Danny DeVito rented a bus for them, because he thought they should feel like rock stars while doing a tour. He paid out of his own pocket for the tour bus,' Potts explained. Advertisement She explained that this was before 'intense social media.' 10 Glenn Howerton as Dennis, Rob McElhenney as Mac, Kaitlin Olson as Dee. 'He had a bar installed, so they had a great time. They were all surprised when they would [visit these venues] and start to find out how much the show had grown.' That 2009 tour was a game changer for the show's success, since they realized how many fans they had. Advertisement As for when it could end? Howerton recently told The Post that they've discussed a conclusion — but revisit if they should continue 'year by year.' 10 Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito and Charlie Day act during a dance scene on the set of 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' on May 23, 2007. And, there seems to be endless ways to explore the world through these characters. We have no intention of stopping anytime soon,' he revealed. Advertisement Potts cited cartoons that viewers have jokingly made of the cast doing the show into their old age, with canes and walkers. 'I don't think we're gonna see 'Sunny' Season 50, probably not, anyway,' she reasoned. 'But, can I see there being a Season 25? Maybe. I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility.' Season 17 premieres on Wednesday, July 9 on FXX and Hulu.

Hollywood stars Mark Ruffalo, Kerry Washington, Jimmy Kimmel and more join ‘No Kings' protests against Trump's military parade
As U.S. President Donald Trump prepares to mark the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary with a military parade in Washington, celebrities across Hollywood have taken to the streets in cities from Los Angeles to New York, standing alongside thousands of Americans in the 'No Kings' protests. The rallies, timed to fall on Trump's birthday, target what demonstrators describe as his authoritarian ambitions and attacks on democracy. In Los Angeles, actors, musicians, and comedians marched with signs and shared their message online. The White Lotus star Natasha Rothwell posted a photo of herself holding a sign reading 'You are trash,' with the blunt caption: 'NO KINGS.' Julia Louis-Dreyfus joined the outcry, sharing an image of her sign: 'The only monarch I like is a butterfly.' Her post was tagged simply, '#nokings.' Singer Olivia Rodrigo added her voice, posting a photo of a protest sign with a crossed-out crown and the words 'in our USA.' Meanwhile, That's So True artist Gracie Abrams documented the scene on Instagram Stories, sharing shots of crowds with slogans like 'Free speech is not an insurrection' and a quote from Desmond Tutu: 'If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.' In New York City, actor Mark Ruffalo was clear about why he stood in the rain alongside thousands. 'Because we see our democracy is in real trouble,' Ruffalo told MSNBC. 'We see a president who has made himself a king and dictator, and we don't see an opposition that's powerful enough to stand up against the trampling of our rights and the trampling of the Constitution.' Ruffalo criticised Trump's executive orders and his administration's immigration policies, calling out the separation of families and defiance of court orders. 'We're disgusted and we're scared, and we know that the only way to fight this now is for the people to come together,' he said. In San Francisco, comedian Jimmy Kimmel marched with his parents. 'A huge, inspiring and yes — peaceful — turnout in the South Bay,' Kimmel posted. 'I met many people who love this country and still believe it to be a force for good. The most important words ever spoken are 'Love one another.' It really is as simple as that.' Elsewhere, celebrities like Moby urged unity and action. Sharing protest footage, the musician wrote: 'No kings. We need to do everything we can to protect democracy: protest, donate, post, run for office, vote, organize. Also now is absolutely not the time for any in-fighting.' Los Angeles saw crowds filling downtown streets, with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Mary Elizabeth Ellis summing up the mood: 'Felt great to peacefully protest this administration in the streets today with fellow Los Angelenos. #LA always shows up.'

Ryan Reynolds acquires a new sports team — this time with Hugh Jackman
Good friends Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have set sail on an exciting new venture together — as co-owners of Australia's three-time SailGP champions. The Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars have joined team driver and CEO Tom Slingsby in leading the freshly rebranded BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team, the company announced Thursday. 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure,' Jackman, 56, and Reynolds, 48, said in a joint statement. In their signature tongue-in-cheek style, the statement continued: 'Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we're writing this in our BONDS. No further questions.' The company confirmed that the team has signed a multi-year partnership with BONDS underwear, marking the first time the Australian SailGP Team has had a title partner. Slingsby added: 'This is an incredible milestone for us and for our sport, having global icons Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds come on board as co-owners of our team. They bring unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of humor that fits perfectly with our team. 'With BONDS joining as our Title Partner and the launch of the BONDS Flying Roos, we're building something distinctly Australian; a team driven by spirit, resilience, and national pride.' The BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team will make their official debut under their new name and ownership at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix from June 7-8. This new acquisition marks Reynolds' third in the world of sports. He already co-owns two soccer teams: Wrexham AFC in Wales and Club Necaxa in Mexico with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney. It also comes amid Reynolds's ongoing legal battle with his wife's (Blake Lively) It Ends with Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni, over sexual harassment accusations. Lively, whom Reynolds has been married to since 2012, sued Baldoni in January, alleging that he sexually harassed her on set and subsequently devised a campaign to 'destroy' her reputation, following the film's release. Baldoni, who has vehemently denied the accusations, filed a countersuit against Lively and Reynolds, claiming they tried to 'destroy' his career and reputation. In a major update earlier this week, Lively withdrew her claims that Baldoni intentionally and negligently inflicted emotional distress on her during the production of the film, after Baldoni's lawyers sought to access her therapy notes and other health records.
