Motorcycling-Marquez crashes twice in bruising day of practice at Dutch Grand Prix
FILE PHOTO: MotoGP - Italian Grand Prix - Mugello Circuit, Scarperia e San Piero, Italy - June 22, 2025, Ducati Lenovo Team's Marc Marquez celebrates after winning the Italian Grand Prix REUTERS/Jennifer Lorenzini/File Photo (Reuters) -Ducati's MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez crashed twice on a painful day of practice at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen on Friday, with the Spaniard saying he was lucky to walk away with no major injuries ahead of the weekend's action. Marquez, who has not won at Assen in seven years, arrives at the Cathedral of Speed with a 40-point lead but as he put the Ducati through its paces, he struggled on the sweeping turns when the medium front tyre failed to grip in cool conditions. The first crash saw Marquez go down in a highside crash and as he ended up in the gravel, he quickly took off his left glove in apparent pain. On the second crash, Marquez lost his balance on a turn and slid into the gravel again, this time stomach down as the bike tumbled away from him. The 32-year-old initially stood up but appeared winded and quickly sat on his haunches holding his groin before he was helped off the track by marshalls. "It's not an easy day for my body but apart from that I'm lucky because nothing important -- some things, yes -- but it's not something that will be a problem for the next two days. Tomorrow I will check when I get up," Marquez said with a smile. "The first one (crash) was a bit strange because I was not really pushing but it felt super slippery. The second one was a consequence, it was a time attack but I did the time attack with the front tyre that I crashed this morning." Marquez also sported a small cut on his chin after his slide across the gravel and the Ducati rider said the size of the stones did not help as he also hurt his stomach. "The rocks are super big and then when you arrive there with that high speed, it hits your body," he added. "I had a problem and then I was breathing (hard) there on the gravel because I was sliding on the gravel face down." Marquez eventually advanced to the Q2 qualifying session but he was not the only rider to crash on Friday, with his brother Alex of Gresini Racing -- second in the championship -- also going down. There were as many as nine crashes and two red flags coming out when Trackhouse Racing's Ai Ogura suffered a crash as his bike landed in a fiery heap while Aprilia's Lorenzo Savadori also went down due to a nasty highside. Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo topped the practice session timesheet ahead of Alex Marquez, KTM's Pedro Acosta and Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi as four different manufacturers made the top five rounded out by Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia. ‘I'm not here to finish races,' says Binder ahead of Assen MotoGP
Red Bull KTM rider much better than his recent run of form in premier class suggests. Fresh off his first top 10 finish in four MotoGP starts, Brad Binder will be out to grab more points at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands this weekend. The Red Bull KTM man's ninth place finish in the main race of the Italian Grand Prix last Sunday relieved some pressure after scoring only three points in his previous seven starts. He moved up one place to 13th in the premier class championship lead by Marc Marquez. Although Binder's finish was commendable after starting from a lowly 15th place on the grid, he should be competing much higher up in the field by his own admission. The troublesome RC16 is also not helping his cause as he and his team-mate Pedro Acosta, who pipped him by three hundredths of a second at Mugello, finished almost 20 seconds off the winning time of Marquez's Ducati. Brad Binder wants more 'Of course I finished the race. But I'm not really here just to finish races,' he was quoted by after Mugello. 'It was a really long race. I expected a lot more from myself. But I had no grip at the front or the rear. 'I had problems with the front brake in particular. I had to brake very gently and control the accelerator with extreme caution to avoid any risk of falling. Pushing was absolutely impossible.' Binder boasts a good record at the 5.24km TT Circuit Assen known as 'The Cathedral of Speed'. He has not finished outside the top six is his last three main race starts in the Netherlands. ALSO READ: Brad Binder turns his poor run of form around with solid ninth place Pecco up against it Pecco Bagnaia, who won the last three races at the TT Circuit Assen, will have his had full against the Marquez brothers. The two-time world champion is third in the title race on 160 points and miles behind his Ducati factory team-mate Marc (270) and Alex (230) on a Gresini Ducati. Brad Binder's brother Darryn Binder and Ruché Moodley will hope to make amends after both failed to scored points at Mugello. Darryn Binder finished 21st in the intermediate class and is 20th in the Moto2 title race on 10 points. Moodley retired on lap two of the Moto3 race in Italy. The teenager is 23rd in the championship on 11 points. The sprint race at Assen start at 3pm on Saturday and the main at 2pm on Sunday. Before then, Moodley and Darryn Binder will be in action at 11am and 12.15pm respectively.

Ducati Introduces Renaissance-Inspired Livery At Italian Grand Prix: Check Pics
Ducati dresses its Lenovo Team with a special livery that celebrates the Italian Renaissance. In recent years, the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello has become one of the settings for Ducati to illustrate its identity through special projects. In 2024, Azzurro paid homage to the colour of the Italian national teams in sport, and in 2025, the narrative evolves even further, blending beauty and ingenuity in a tribute to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance and symbol of Italian creative genius. Ducati's Renaissance-inspired livery Born from the collaboration between designer Aldo Drudi and historian Marcello Simonetta, the project has given life to a livery with a strong symbolic and cultural value. The inspiration comes from two emblematic figures of the Italian Renaissance- Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolo Machiavelli. Inspired by Leonardo's famous drawing known as the "Ancient Captain", Aldo Drudi has reinterpreted the image in a dynamic and contemporary way. He has accentuated the inclination of the head, transforming the Renaissance leader into a modern knight ready to ride his "motorized" centaur. Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez are the Ducati Lenovo racers, riding one of the most prestigious Made in Italy symbols of motorsport. Their Desmosedici GPs feature a lion and a fox inspired by the armour of Leonardo da Vinci's famous leader, representing the perfect synthesis between strength and cunning, just as Machiavelli teaches in "The Prince": to win, you need both the strength of the lion and the cunning of the fox. The Grand Prix racing team claims that with this special livery, Ducati brings to the track a visual and narrative dialogue between past and present, between art and engineering, between the genius of the Renaissance and the contemporary ingenuity of which the motorcycle manufacturer is an expression.
