Jonathan Bailey drops major Bond hint with latest collaboration as he unwinds on the Mediterranean - after emerging as hot favourite for vacant 007 role

With a Martini in hand and the Mediterranean serving as an appropriately cinematic backdrop, one could be forgiven for thinking Jonathan Bailey had already answered one of the biggest casting calls in Hollywood. Sadly for James Bond fans, the iconic role remains open to offers some four years after Daniel Craig ditched the tuxedo, hung up the Walther PP and handed over the keys to his beloved Aston Martin. And with Amazon having bought the rights to Britain's longest running film franchise - the next film will be its 26th - the debate around who will seize the baton and become Bond number seven remains hotter than ever. To date, the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Regé-Jean Page, Richard Madden and Idris Elba have been touted as potential candidates for the role - but it was another contender who stood out on the Italian Riviera this week. Joining forces with MARTINI - Bond's tipple of choice - for a new promotional campaign, Bailey emanated the iconic character's debonair sophistication while posing for an accompanying series of photos. Bailey and the iconic Italian aperitivo brand are calling on audiences to break from routine and try a different path in a new campaign for MARTINI Spritz. Together, they're inspiring people to go 'Off Script' this summer, by swapping predictable plans for spontaneous moments, and raising a spritz glass to life's 'simple unplanned joys'. Filmed in southern Italy - a favourite spot he returns to every year - Bailey left his carefully scripted characters and cult on-screen roles behind to embrace a summer of spontaneity, effortless Italian style - and plenty of MARTINI spritzes. 'Going off script is the ultimate way to allow space for fun, and new experiences,' he said in an accompanying press release. 'Unplanned moments end up being the most unforgettable. 'This summer, I invite everyone to take a breath, dive in, swerve off piste and be playful. Live a little differently… with a MARTINI Spritz in hand, of course.' Fans have been patiently waiting to find out when the new James Bond film will be announced after Daniel Craig left 007 facing an uncertain future in his final offering, the 2021 blockbuster No Time To Die. Amazon recently took over 'creative control' of the much-loved franchise and are said to be fast-tracking the new film, with Hollywood producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal hired to usher in a new era. Bookmaker William Hill sees Aaron Taylor-Johnson the most likely to take over at odds of 11/8, while Theo James sits at 7/2. Filmed in southern Italy - a favourite spot he returns to every year - Bailey left his carefully scripted characters and cult on-screen roles behind to embrace a summer of spontaneity Right behind Aaron Pierre and Henry Cavill is Happy Valley actor James Norton, and chasing his tail is Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden. Earlier this month, betting companies released their odds for the next James Bond villain - with one unexpected household name topping the list. The favourite was then none other than Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy, who sits at the top of OLBG's odds at 9/2. The Irish actor - best known for playing Thomas Shelby in the hit BBC show - had previously been touted for the part of Bond but played down speculation, telling Deadline: 'I think I'm a bit old for that.' Also in the running to play the Bond bad guy are American actor Paul Giamatti (11/2), The Boogeyman star David Dastmalchian (13/2), and unlikely contender Zendaya (7/1). Pierre's odds put him at the same likelihood as longtime Bond front runner Henry Cavill (seen in June) Despite 'usually playing the good guy' in her previous roles, the female actress told Elle in 2023 that she's ready to enter her villainous era. 'I would love to play a villain of sorts,' the 28-year-old said. 'Tap into the evil, supervillain vibes. Whatever that manifests in, I don't think necessarily in a superhero sense, I just mean in like an emotional sense. 'I feel like I usually play the good guy, so I'd like to play the bad guy.' Amazon bosses are currently said to be considering locations in which to set the much-anticipated new film, which experts predicted is likely to be released at the end of next year or in 2027. Due to a filming ban being imposed in Central London next year, new locations are reportedly being considered - with Liverpool a frontrunner, according to The Sun. An insider told the publication: 'This will no doubt irk Bond purists who already fear Amazon taking over the 007 franchise may lead to them making big changes. 'But Liverpool is a well-known alternative to London for film-makers. 'It has appeared in everything from The Batman to Captain America and Harry Potter movies, doubling up as international cities.' The source added that it doesn't necessarily mean the story will be set in Liverpool - though eagle-eyed Merseysiders will no doubt spot their city centre in the background.

The Belmond Hotel Splendido Shows Us How To Holiday Like A Movie Star

She's had a meticulously planned face-lift. But though the Belmond Hotel Splendido's appearance may have been refreshed, her celebrated spirit – that has attracted a slew of celebrities since 1901 – remains preserved Those in the know don't say they're going to Portofino, they say they're going to the Splendido. This isn't just an indication of how intrinsically linked this starry, storied property is to its location on the Italian Riviera – it's what it says about you. It's a stamp of belonging to a rarified world. An indication of taste, refinement. And yes, we will be so crass to point out, sheer spending power. The 'Homage to Elizabeth Taylor' tomato spaghetti starter – named after and created for the icon that adored it, and spent four of her honeymoons here – is 40 Euros. And when you order it, accompanied by a chilled spritz on the jasmine-scented, wisteria-clad La Terraza, you'll come to the realisation that money surely can buy happiness. This pink 16 th -century Benedictine monastery is anything but austere, as stars like Jennifer Aniston and Madonna would attest to. And it's reemerged this summer season with added aplomb, having undergone a meticulous facelift courtesy of designer Martin Brudnizki, to celebrate its 40 th anniversary under the stewardship of Belmond. Drawing inspiration from its setting – at the summit of a cliff overlooking the glistening super yacht-filled harbour (and the homes of designers Giorgio Armani and Dolce and Gabbana in the distance) – motifs of painted flora and fauna, bespoke Medea furniture and local artisanal techniques, are married with requisite upgrades when it comes to tech and modern amenities. You definitely won't hear your neighbours, keen athletes on the tennis court, or the seagulls that swoop in the sunshine outside. The vibe? Staying at your art collector friend's villa. Luxurious, but understated. Comfortable yet elevated. Somewhere it wouldn't seem out of place to see Jeff Goldblum and his jazz band take to the piano for an impromptu performance (true story, this happened in June). Opt for one of the suites – 103 offers excellent views and two balconies, plus a stand-alone sunken tub complete with Aqua Di Parma toiletries – while La Baronessa is sure to become the ultimate bolt-hole for regulars looking for sprawling space. And while it's tempting to order breakfast in bed, venture downstairs to fully indulge in a generous array of dainty patisserie, juicy sun-kissed fruit, fresh mascarpone and burrata coupled with the region's famous pesto, plus Lombardian chef Corrado Corti's signature Portofino eggs. Even A-listers can't resist the temptation of taking a snap of the bay as the sun rises. You'll be tempted to take all your meals at La Terraza – a hotspot for visitors willing to make the trek up the steep hill to get a taste of the property, and excellent for people-watching – but the poolside Splendido Grill is another option. Don't miss the trofie pesto – rightly recommended by all the staff as a must-try – though the scent of wood-fired pizzas are hard to resist. Those taking in the sun on the tangerine-hued loungers with their distinctive striped parasols, can also take advantage of this menu as they dip in the (temperature-controlled) saltwater pool and sip. If there's an unexpected drizzle? Head to the indoor bar that dispenses excellent Negronis and Ava Gardner (another fan) cocktails. This season also sees the opening of a Dior spa. Distinctive Toile de Jouy wicker furnishings immediately set the scene, with a menu of face and body treatments that can be enjoyed in the comfort of dedicated rooms, or outside in specially created cabanas hidden on the cliffside. Many enjoy the brisk walk down to Portofino's designer boutique-lined piazetta, where ferries still usher locals to nearby towns like Santa Margherita (where Silvio Berlusconi has his summer house) and fishermen share space with big boats in this once-sleepy village, but the Splendido also puts on a regular shuttle for guests. A hotspot? The hotel's sister property, the 14-bedroom Splendido de Mare that has captured a prime location at the centre of the main square, flanked by Bottega Veneta, Brunello Cuccinelli and two Louis Vuittons, overlooking the port. Grab a pistachio cone at Gelateria Bar San Giorgio – a contender for the best ice-cream in the country. Splendido is set amidst a protected, forested park – hence its lush surroundings – and in keeping with this ethos, it has a special relationship with an eco-farm La Portofinese. They'll dispatch a tiny van to take you up what seems to be a footpath, but is actually a winding road, further into the greenery, where you can have private cooking lessons or dine amid organic vineyards and plantations endemic to the area. A must-do activity, even though you'll be loathe to leave the comforting confines of the hotel, or cut into the exploration of the Cinque Terre (ideally via the property's own Riva boat). There's also been another simultaneous unveiling this season: the spectacular Villa Beatrice. This five-room villa (four suites in the main house, and a stand-alone cottage) with its own private pool and gardens offers the ultimate in privacy. Butler? Check. Private chef? Check. And complete access to the hotel next door if you're looking for company during aperitivo. For those who pride themselves on knowing the best, and staying at the best, it's a right of passage to stay at the Splendido. It says you've not only arrived, but that you've kind of always been there, always belonged. And it takes a magical place to have this allure. For people, from billionaires to celebrities, to wear their patronage as a badge of pride. Once thing is for certain, the hype is justified. It's a privilege to be part of this club. Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira 'on the verge of being sacked' at Genoa as his managerial career continues to spiral

Time is running out for Patrick Vieira as Genoa manager, according to reports from Italy. The former Arsenal midfielder's side have won just two of their last 11 matches and sit in 13th position in the Serie A table. Genoa did, however, pull off a creditable 2-2 draw at title-chasing Napoli on Sunday after which Vieira was evasive when quizzed about his future. 'There is talk of many players or coaches leaving, I am thinking about finishing the season on a positive note,' the 48-year-old said. 'This is the objective now and we have demonstrated it with Milan (a 2-1 home defeat last week) and Napoli. There will be time to think about such things after the season is over.' And TuttoMercatoWeb are reporting that when the season ends, so will Vieira's time in the Italian Riviera. The 48-year-old made a promising start at Crystal Palace before things declined rapidly The outlet claims that Genoa are already lining up former Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa, currently coaching Shabab Al-Ahli in the UAE, as Vieira's replacement. It's set to be the latest disappointment for Vieira in what was once a promising managerial career. After finishing his playing career at Man City, the Frenchman's first managerial post was at New York City FC. The Major League Soccer side are part of City Football Group founded by Man City owner Sheikh Mansour. Vieira won many admirers during his two-and-a-half-year stint with NYCFC, guiding to the club from 17th in 2015 to a fourth-place finish in his first season and then second the following year. The Arsenal 'Invincible' was even tipped to replace Arsene Wenger when the Gunners' boss left the Emirates in 2018. Instead, Vieira went to Ligue 1 club Nice where he achieved seventh and fifth-placed finishes during his two full seasons which persuaded Crystal Palace to make him Roy Hodgson's successor in 2021. His stint at Selhurst Park start well as he led the Eagles to a 12th-placed finish in his first season, earning praise for an attacking style. Things declined sharply in his second season, however, and he was sacked after a run of 12 games without a win with the club scoring just 21 goals in 27 matches. Vieira then served just one year of a three-year deal at Strasbourg before stepping down and taking up his position at Genoa four months later.
