Surprise! Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 found to be thinner than 'world's slimmest foldable'
Last year when Honor released its Magic V3 foldable phone it took home the honor of being the thinnest foldable on the market at 9.2mm closed and 4.34mm unfolded. This year Honor is claiming that the Magic V5 is the "world's slimmest foldable," but a recent comparison video between the V5 and Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to show that the newest Fold is microns thinner. We unfortunately can't get the Honor Magic V5 in the U.S., but Honor's marketing materials claim that the Ivory White color way is 8.8mm when folded, which is 0.1mm thinner than Samsung's Z Fold 7 measuring in at 8.9mm. There is no accurate measuring tool, but we can still draw a rigorous conclusion: Galaxy Z Fold7 is the thinnest folding mobile phone in the world.I switched the positions of two mobile phones during the test, and the results remained the same, which showed that the factors of… 15, 2025 A recent video from regular leaker Ice Universe popped up on X this week that shows the Magic V5 side-by-side with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Though Ice Universe does claim they tested the "white version." "Data comes from the HONOR Lab. 8.8mm refers to the thickness of the Ivory White model in the folded state," Honor's website says. "The actual data may vary depending on configurations, manufacturing processes and measurement methods." We're not going to cast aspersions on Honor about whether or not they're lying. At best it's stretching the truth, since they go out of the way to caveat their own hype, but it does seem like Samsung may hold the thinness crown for now. Though when you're measuring at micrometers, outside of marketing, is there really a difference?

Not quite. Popular Chinese tipster Ice Universe put the two phones next to each other and, in fact, the Fold7 appeared slimmer. What is the surprize? It happens that the Honor Magic V5 has a ready-masked screen saver, not included in the official thickness. This implies that you will find a thicker version of it when you buy it as compared to the one that has been stated on the spec sheet. Samsung does not rely on such extras. This minor variance points out the fact that even a minute thickness of 0.1mm (or even 1g of weight) can barely be distinguished in practical applications. Therefore, even though brands can sell their foldables as the thinnest in history, it is all about show-off. As a matter of fact, a good majority of the contemporary foldables are relatively thin and light to be conveniently held and used. Honor launches world's ‘thinnest' foldable Magic V5: All you need to know
Honor has launched the world's thinnest foldable phone, Magic V5. But it is only the slimmest phone if you overlook the camera module, and that too if it is the white edition. The Magic V5 was launched in China on July 2, Wednesday, and it is yet to be released in other parts of the world. The thinnest foldable phone will be available in three colourways: Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold and Reddish Brown. Even though its availability in India is not known yet, here is everything you need to know about Honor's latest smartphone. Design and build When it comes to thickness, the Magic V5 at 8.8 mm beats the Oppo Find N5, which is 8.9 mm. In day-to-day use, the 0.1 mm difference is insignificant, but Honor's phone seems to be slightly thinner than the Oppo thanks to a very small curve. It needs to be noted that this only applies to the Ivory White version of the phone. The other colour options are 9 mm thick, as they come in fibre and vegan leather finishes. It is also among the lightest foldable smartphones, sharing the title with the Vivo X Fold 5, weighing in at 217 g. The phone features Honor Super Steel Hinge, offering enhanced strength and allowing a smooth folding action. Cameras/photography Despite having a thin overall design, the Magic V5 seems chunkier due to its protruding rear camera module. However, the company has added a well-designed camera with advanced photography. According to the company, the Magic V5 offers a complete photography experience. It sports a 50MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and an improved 654MP periscope telephoto lens. AI features The Magic V5 comes with cutting-edge AI image processing to produce sharp, detailed images and videos.
