JAY-Z Shuts Down Paternity Claims, Calls Rymir Satterthwaite's Allegations 'Fabricated'
In newly filed court documents obtained by Us Weekly, JAY-Z is asking a federal judge to step in and shut down a lawsuit filed by 31-year-old Rymir Satterthwaite, who continues to allege that the Hip-Hop mogul is his biological father. Satterthwaite, who filed the latest complaint in May, accuses Jay of knowingly avoiding a paternity test and using his celebrity status to silence him. The lawsuit also alleges fraud, manipulation of the legal system, and a pattern of intimidation — claims JAY-Z's legal team flatly denies. In response, the Roc Nation founder — born Shawn Carter — called the lawsuit the latest chapter in what he describes as a 'decades-long harassment campaign' carried out by Satterthwaite. His lawyers noted that similar allegations have already been 'addressed and rejected' by multiple courts and that continued efforts to push the narrative have resulted in contempt orders. JAY-Z also told the court he only learned of the latest filing on June 3 and requested additional time to formally respond. His legal team claims an attempt to contact Satterthwaite's guardian to coordinate was met with hostility, stating that the phone call ended with her hanging up. Satterthwaite's lawsuit outlines claims that his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, had a relationship with JAY-Z in the 1990s. He says the rapper has gone to great lengths to avoid acknowledging his alleged paternity, including allegedly refusing DNA testing and pressuring the courts. Satterthwaite claims the years-long legal battle has caused him emotional distress, public embarrassment, and even health complications. The Philly native also alleges a violent threat against him in the form of a car shooting — an incident he believes was a message intended to silence him. Despite the serious nature of his allegations, he says he's not seeking back child support but rather damages for the toll the situation has taken on his life. The 55-year-old icon has remained largely silent on the matter over the years, though his legal team maintains there is no truth to Satterthwaite's claims. The judge has not yet ruled on the latest filing. More from Who Is Rymir Satterthwaite? JAY-Z Performs On Cowboy Carter Tour Days After Nicki Minaj Call Out, Paternity Lawsuit Drama
JAY-Z hit the stage with wife Beyoncé this weekend for day three of her Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Atlanta, just days after Nicki Minaj lambasted the Brooklyn native online. After first making an appearance at one of Beyoncé's Paris shows, Hov made his second Cowboy Carter Tour appearance in Atlanta on Sunday (July 13), where he joined his wife for their smash duet 'Crazy In Love,' before performing 'Public Service Announcement' from his 2003 studio album The Black Album. See footage below. The appearance came days after Nicki Minaj called out the mogul for allegedly cheating her out of $200M based on a contract she signed for TIDAL, a music streaming service he has since sold to Jack Dorsey's Square. Minaj argues that, while she and 15 other artists were gifted a three percent stake in the service at its 2015 launch, she was only offered $1,000,000 for her share after the company was sold for $302,000,000 in 2021. 'We've calculated about 100-200MM so far. #JayZ call me to settle this karmic debt. It's only collecting more interest,' she wrote on X. Minaj also called attention to Rymir Satterthwaite, the 31-year-old man who claims JAY-Z, 55, is his father, and has been demanding a paternity test for years. In response to his lawsuit, Hov's legal rep released a statement last week, calling Satterthwaite's claims 'fabricated.' 'The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed – and rejected — in multiple other courts and [Satterthwaite's] continued harassment of [Jay-Z] and disregard of those orders has already resulted in a contempt order.'More from Did Nicki Minaj Just Shade Beyoncé? Nicki Minaj fans the flames as she feuds with a singer and a felllow rapper
American rap sensation Nicki Minaj has been on a tirade of late. R&B singer and songwriter SZA is the latest person in her crosshairs. Over the last couple of weeks, Minaj has also had a lot to say about JAY-Z. She alleged he owes her a hefty sum of money involving the deal she struck with him and his streaming platform Tidal. Minaj has not released much new music lately, as someone who people consider a major advisory of hers, Cardi B, is entering the rollout phase of her long-awaited sophomore album. SZA posted a cryptic tweet scoffing at how Mercury is in retrograde and urging a 'silly goose' not to take the bait. Minaj must've taken exception to this. She proceeded to let loose with a barrage of insulting tweets aimed at Top Dog Entertainment's marquee singer. Speculations online swirled as Minaj's fans wondered if she was under the influence at the time. All bets were off as Minaj took shots at SZA. Everything from her capability as an artist, her record of sales and even her looks were mentioned. Minaj went as far as accusing the Snooze hitmaker of inflating her album sales by releasing a deluxe version of her last album, SOS . Terms like 'weirdo' and 'auto-tuned yodelling' were hurled around, much to the dismay of fans. Minaj even dug deep in her files of receipts and unearthed an old tweet by SZA in which she finds issue with the vocal capability of pop stars, Ciara and Rihanna. SZA has not been the only target of Minaj, as JAY-Z felt her wrath too. There has been tension between the two for a while now despite the decent work relationship Minaj has enjoyed with his wife Beyoncé. Minaj accused JAY-Z of cheating her out of millions of dollars in Tidal equity. Minaj is of the notion that she is owed 200 million dollars (3.58 billion ZAR). Her demand was for him to 'settle this karmic debt.' She did jokingly conclude her rant by stating that JAY-Z is still in her top five best rappers. These issues seem timeous as SZA is rumoured to appear on Cardi B's upcoming album. JAY-Z, also known as Hov or Hova, will be headlining the next Super Bowl halftime show. He has also had a heavy hand in organising these in years past. None of which have involved him calling on Minaj to take the stage. JAY-Z has stayed very much in character and has not responded on X. The day after this, JAY was on the sidelines at the FIFA Club World Cup, enjoying the festivities with Brazilian footballing legend Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, seemingly unbothered. Instead of replying on social media, JAY hopped out in Atlanta while on tour with his wife and played a song with opening lines that can be interpreted as a direct response to Minaj's tweet, in which she said it is blasphemous to refer to him as Hov. Clad in his traditional all-black, JAY-Z let loose with his 2003 street anthem Public Service Announcement , the opening lyrics of which read, 'Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Hov. H to the OV.' Analysts and pundits cite an array of reasons as to why this might be happening. Artists like Glorilla, Megan Thee Stallion (whom Minaj has also had issues with) are enjoying their time in the sun with a string of hits being released by Glorilla. Megan announced her new romantic entanglement with basketball star and Dallas Maverick, Klay Thompson. All the while, that new Cardi B album looms, and her latest single Outside has been embraced by the culture. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 11. Skepta Challenges A$AP Rocky To Rap Battle In U.K. Versus U.S.A. Hip-Hop Clash
British rap star Skepta has issued a challenge to A$AP Rocky to face-off in a rap battle as part of an all-out lyrical clash between UK and US rappers. On July 3, Skepta sparked international debate with a bold challenge posted to social media, expressing his desire to settle the debate over which nation boasts the superior wordsmiths. 'I wanna clash an American rapper. Finally get this UK/US rap debate sorted,' the hitmaker announced in a post on X amid a debate regarding British Hip-Hop's artists place and cultural contributions within Hip-Hop. Skepta made it clear this was not about beef or bravado, but pure lyrical prowess. 'No violence, just bars, punchlines and counteractions,' the 42-year-old assured. At the center of Skepta's vision lies a high-stakes faceoff: Skepta versus A$AP Rocky, two titans representing their nations. Though no formal response has come from Rocky yet, the challenge has ignited social media and stirred excitement across the global hip-hop community. Skepta's proposed matchups read like a dream lineup for fans of lyrical combat. Ghetts versus Eminem, Chip versus Kendrick Lamar, Dave versus Lil Wayne, and Youngs Teflon versus Meek Mill are just a few of the head-to-heads floated. Other potential clashes include Blade Brown against Pusha T, Queenie versus Megan Thee Stallion, and Central Cee facing off with Jack Harlow. There's also a stylistic spectacle in Lancey Foux versus Travis Scott, and an unconventional pairing with JME and Tyler, The Creator. While several names have been mentioned, Joyner Lucas was among the first U.S. rappers to answer Skepta's call, publicly accepting the challenge. However, Skepta made it clear that his current focus is locked on Rocky. 'When I make my diss track for Rocky, I'm gonna give you 2 bars… I didn't do all the work I did just for Joyner Lucas to be saying my name.' Skepta's proposal isn't just about competitive lyricism—it's a cultural moment aiming to highlight the evolution and strength of UK rap, long underappreciated in American-dominated hip-hop discourse. If the battle series materializes, it could reshape global perceptions and give artists from both sides of the Atlantic a powerful new platform to showcase their skills. It also serves as a chance for Skepta and other British rap artists to earn their rightful respect amid feeling ostracized and underestimated by their stateside peers. See Skepta's challenge and Joyner Lucas' response below. JAY-Z's Defamation And Extortion Lawsuit Against Tony Buzbee Gets Dismissed
JAY-Z's campaign against Tony Buzbee has run into a snag. A California judge dismissed his extortion and defamation lawsuit against the controversial attorney. Mark Epstein, a Los Angeles County judge, admitted he was not 'wholly satisfied' with his decision in a new 65-page ruling, per Rolling Stone. Epstein said he had to weigh the 'competing interests at play,' but would ultimately leave the final decision in the hands of the Court Of Appeal. So, despite making this decision, he ended his ruling saying to 'stay tuned.' Hov sued Buzbee last year after the rape accusations against him were dropped, which the Texas lawyer was a driving force behind. The Brooklyn rapper claimed that Buzbee knew he was operating on false information, yet still proceeded with the suit. He also accused the 56-year-old attorney of contacting him on two separate occasions to demand money before adding him to Diddy's rape lawsuit, which Hov believes was due to him not handing over the requested money. The '99 Problems' rapper's legal team was not pleased with Judge Epstein's decision. 'We are surprised and disappointed by this ruling which turns on the misapplication of California law on the admissibility of the investigators' statements,' his lawyer, Alex Spiro, told Rolling Stone. 'Notably, the Judge expressly states that his decision would have 'change[d] dramatically' if he had admitted the statements into evidence as they would have shown 'not only that Carter had nothing to do with any sexual assault on Doe, but that Buzbee knew it…' and thus 'the court would come out the other way on this motion.' What does it say about our justice system if someone can knowingly bring about completely false claims of the most heinous nature imaginable against an innocent individual and get away with it on a technicality?' Buzbee, on the other hand, was thrilled to be on the right side of a dropped lawsuit this time around. 'Yet another huge win!!' he wrote on X. 'John Doe's case against me and The Buzbee Law Firm alleging extortion and defamation was thrown out by the court. As I said when it was filed, the case was completely meritless. We will now seek attorneys' fees against John Doe for bringing the legally flawed case.'
