New JD Sports gym set to open in Reading retail park
A brand-new 24 hour gym is set to open in a Reading retail Park. The JD Gym at Reading Link Retail Park will feature a vast selection of fitness equipment, including free weights and cardio machines. There will also be a "dedicated glute training area" for those "looking to take their workouts to the next level." Construction of the state-of-the-art gym begun in January 2025. The gym will be open all day, every day, meaning people can work out whenever they like. The gym chain said: "With its modern design and premium facilities, JD Gyms Reading promises to offer an unparalleled fitness experience for gym-goers of all levels." The 1,799 sqm site cleared the Reading Borough Council's planning committee in June. Its meant the loss of 47 parking spaces, leaving 264 spaces left at the retail site. But in order for it to go ahead, JD had to sign a Section 106 legal agreement laying out financial contributions it will make to the council. This includes a £8,455 contribution to education, skills and training in the borough. Over the last financial year, JD Gyms expanded its portfolio of sites from 79 to 85, and boosted its membership to around 536,000 - an increase from 453,000.
