Gangs Of Bihar: 5 Men Walk Into Patna Hospital With Guns, Shoot Patient Dead

Patna: Five armed men enter a Bihar hospital, casually walk into a patient's room, pump bullets into him and escape. This is not a movie. This is Bihar's horrifying reality. The CCTV cameras at the hospital captured the five shooters pulling out their guns, opening the cabin's door, and then escaping. The target, Chandan Mishra, died during treatment. Mishra, a hardened criminal with dozens of murder cases against him, was out on parole on medical grounds. He was admitted to Patna's Paras Hospital, where the shooting took place this morning. Police believe that a rival gang is behind the chilling attack. "A criminal named Chandan Mishra, resident of Buxar district, against whom dozens of cases of murder are registered, was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. The rival gang shot him. He is undergoing treatment, and with the help of the Buxar police, we are identifying the members of the rival gang, Chandan Sheru gang," Kartikay Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, told the media after the shooting. Mishra later succumbed to his injuries. Police have said they are also investigating whether the hospital's security guards were involved in the incident. The hospital shooting has yet again spotlighted the law and order situation in the Bihar capital, which has made headlines for multiple cases of murder in the past few weeks. Among those killed are businessmen Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat and lawyer Jitendra Mahato. The Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP government is on the back foot as the rising crime graph has given ammunition to the Opposition RJD and Congress to target the state government months ahead of state polls. In the aftermath of the hospital shooting, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has questioned the Bihar government if "anyone was safe anywhere" in the state. "Government-backed criminals stormed into the ICU and shot a patient admitted to the hospital. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar? Has this happened before 2005?" he asked. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has assured that the criminals would be caught. "Such an incident is unfortunate. It will be thoroughly investigated and the criminal will not be spared. The Chief Minister of Bihar has said the criminal will be caught and strictly punished."

"Like British Stopped Gandhiji...": Tushar Gandhi On Row In Bihar's Champaran

New Delhi: Tushar Gandhi - Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson - was ejected from a public gathering in Bihar's Champaran district after the panchayat chief objected to a speech, which reportedly included criticism of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the ruling JDU-BJP alliance. That this took place in Champaran has been seen as 'adding insult to injury' because Mahatma Gandhi launched his first passive political resistance movement from this district on April 10, 1917. Today Mr Gandhi is on a ' Badlav Yatra ', a padyatra or foot march, to drum up support for the opposition alliance of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress, and some Left parties. He began from an ashram in Bhitiharwa in which Mahatma Gandhi used to stay. On Monday morning he arrived in Turkauliya village and the neem tree from under which his great-grandfather began that march. A public meeting was held outside the panchayat office. However, the atmosphere turned sour as Mr Gandhi began his speech. #BREAKING | Mahatma Gandhi's Kin Tushar Insulted In Bihar, Called An Outsider — NDTV (@ndtv) July 14, 2025 The village head, Vinay Sah, accused him of speaking against Nitish Kumar and the Janata Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party government, and demanded Mr Gandhi be thrown out. In videos circulating on X Mr Sah can be seen denouncing Mr Gandhi for his comments, declaring Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had 'worked for the poor and all are progressing'. Mr Sah also accused Mr Gandhi of being a 'Congress slave'. An argument followed and Mr Gandhi opted to leave before things got out of control. However, as he did so, he declared democracy had been 'murdered' in Champaran, pointing out he had received the same treatment as his great-grandfather. "When the British ruled, Gandhiji was also stopped. Today, we were stopped in the same way. I am not afraid..." He also called the village chief a 'descendant of Godse', referrring to Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. Local reports said the people who had gathered to listen to Mr Gandhi objected to his expulsion, but Mr Sah was adamant that Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson leave. The fracas involving Mr Gandhi is also rolling over into a political storm as the ruling and opposition parties prep for an Assembly election later this year.

"People Living In Fear": Ex Minister's Friendly Fire Over Bihar Murders

Patna: A day after BJP ally Chirag Paswan targeted the Nitish Kumar government over the string of murders in Bihar, the JDU-BJP ruling alliance and Bihar police have drawn friendly fire from senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav. Speaking to the media after a BJP leader was shot dead in Patna last night, Mr Yadav said the frequent incidents of murder are a cause for concern. Flagging police response to the crimes, he said people "are living in fear" and it is the administration's responsibility to prevent the recurrence of such crimes. BJP leader Surendra Kewat, 52, was working in his field when two bike-borne men shot him last evening. He died during treatment. The murder comes a week after prominent businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his Patna home. The incidents of murder have prompted the Opposition -- and some allies too -- to target the Nitish Kumar government ahead of the Assembly polls due later this year. Ram Kripal Yadav, once a trusted aide of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, switched to the BJP in 2014. He served as a Union Minister between 2014 and 2019. He lost the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from the Patliputra seat to Lalu Yadav's daughter Misa Bharti. In his remarks to the media, Mr Yadav said Surendra Kewat was a devoted BJP worker. "This is a very unfortunate incident. Murders are happening frequently in Patna and this is a matter of concern. I demand that the criminals be arrested immediately. The family members said police reached the spot two hours after the incident. This is a question mark. If police are not swift, how will criminals be arrested?" he asked. He also demanded compensation for the family. Referring to the murders of businessmen Ramakant Yadav and Gopal Khemka, he said, "People are living in fear. They don't feel safe. It is the administration's responsibility to give security to people." Asked about Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha's allegation that the Opposition RJD was behind the crime surge, Mr Yadav said this must be investigated. The former Union Minister was also asked about BJP ally Chirag Paswan's attack on the Nitish Kumar government. "He is upset. Incidents are happening frequently. A politician is also a human being. Yes, we are with political parties and have responsibilities, but we cannot hide the truth. Innocents and businessmen are being murdered. If a politician is worried, it's legit. The government is ours, but what are the officials doing?" he said. Earlier, Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan targeted Bihar police in a post on X. "How many more murders will Biharis face now? It is beyond understanding what the responsibility of the Bihar Police is," he said. The remarks are being seen as signs of unease within the ruling alliance as it preps for the upcoming election. It can also be seen as LJP (Ram Vilas) posturing before seat-sharing talks to pressure its bigger partners, BJP and JDU, for a good deal in the negotiations. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Chirag Paswan clocked a 100 per cent strike rate, winning all five seats his party contested.

"Nitish Kumar's government is a failure, public should remove it in polls": UP Congress chief Ajay Rai

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 6 (ANI): Slamming the JDU-BJP government in Bihar following the murder of a businessman, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai on Sunday said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has miserably failed in maintaining law and order in the state. 'There is 'Jungle Raaj' in Bihar just like Uttar Pradesh. His son was murdered a few years ago. This government under Nitish Kumar is a failure and Bihar's public should remove it in polls,' Ajay Rai told ANI. Amid a political row sparked over the murder of a businessman, Gopal Khemka, in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area, BJP leader Tarun Chugh said that the NDA government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is committed to maintaining law and order. His remarks follow the incident where businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead near the main gate of his residence in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area. Chugh added that the culprits of the case will not be spared.'The NDA government, led by Nitish Kumar, is committed to maintaining law and order there. No guilty person will be spared...' the BJP leader told ANI. Chugh targeted the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), saying, '... Even today, some people are running the jungle raj that was operated by Lalu Prasad Yadav. This will not be tolerated. Whenever Bihar is mentioned, the people of Bihar tremble, remembering the corruption and jungle raj run by Lalu Yadav.' The murder of the businessman has evoked sharp political reactions from the opposition parties and put the spotlight back on the law and order situation in the State, which is going to the polls in the next few months. Rahul Gandhi's Interaction With Bihar Woman Goes Viral. The Topic: Marriage

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bihar led to an interesting interaction between him and Riya Paswan, also known as 'Pad Girl' on social media. During a Mahila Samwad programme in Gaya, Ms Paswan told Rahul Gandhi that he had inspired her to join politics. She then added that just like him, she will never get married. In a video, shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ms Paswan, who lives in a slum area, said she owed her progress in life to the Shakti Abhiyan, an initiative by the Congress to increase women participation in politics. Ms Paswan explained that politics is the first step to improve different sectors, such as education, but many people do not join the field, especially women. 'We have a very big team in the slum areas. We made this during the Shakti Abhiyan itself. We try to solve the small problems of the people. Now it has become such that if people have any problem, they come to us,' she added. Impressed by her confidence, Rahul Gandhi replied, 'You give good speeches.' An excited Riya Paswan added, 'Like you, I am also thinking of never getting married,' prompting laughter from the audience. She continued, 'I want to become a leader and work for the public. I want to join politics because when I entered the Shakti Abhiyan, I realised what politics actually is.' Riya Paswan gained fame in 2022 when she questioned a bureaucrat, IAS officer Harjot Kaur Bhamra, about providing free sanitary pads. Rahul Gandhi was on a one-day trip to Bihar on June 6, ahead of the Assembly elections, which are expected to be held in November. He criticised the JDU and BJP-led state government during his tour of the poll-bound state. While addressing a gathering in Rajgir's Nalanda, chief minister Nitish Kumar's home district, the Congress leader accused the JDU-BJP alliance of turning Bihar from the 'land of knowledge' to the country's 'crime capital'.
