HAMBURG, Germany -- One of Europe's biggest supermarket retailers, Lidl, is planning to source more from Vietnam and Malaysia, as the company diversifies to protect its supply chains at a time of global uncertainties.
Lidl is part of Germany's Schwarz Group, which launched its own Tailwind Shipping Lines in 2022 in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic to gain tighter control over its supply chain and ensure movement of goods from China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to its stores in Europe. Tailwind has since become Germany's second-largest shipping company, operating nine container ships.
