Former CM JH Patel's alma mater in pitiable state
Haveri: The historic govt high school in Kariganur village, Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district, where former Karnataka chief minister JH Patel studies, stands in a deteriorating condition. The 68-year-old structure has only two usable RCC-roofed classrooms out of 15. The remaining 13 classrooms with tiled roofs are severely damaged. During heavy rainfall, water seeps through the roof, and the walls have developed many cracks. Students attend classes while being worried about falling tiles, and teachers conduct lessons under similar apprehension. The institution lacks basic amenities such as proper toilets and drinking water facilities. A new school building remains still unfinished. Kariganur, situated 22 kms from Davanagere district headquarters, is the birthplace of former CM JH Patel, who studied at this school from 1935 to 1942. Currently, the school has 190 pupils from LKG to class 7, with eight teachers, including one guest faculty member. "This time, parents are hesitant to enrol their children as the building is leaking, leading to a decrease in school enrolment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? 'Indefinite movement if govt doesn't heed' Tejaswi Patel, a relative of JH Patel, voiced his concern about the situation. He mentioned about repeated requests to fund the school's development, considering its significance as being the school of the former CM. He emphasised the urgency for constructing a new building rather than waiting for any casualties to occur. "We will launch an indefinite movement if govt does not meet our legal demand as soon as possible," Tejaswi Patel warned. DDPI Davanagere Kotresh said he was aware about the school's condition and heritage. "The school building will be repaired soon, and we will discuss the matter with higher authorities, which will lead to the release of funds for a new building within three months," he assured.
