Hyderabad bizman arrested for stealing foreign currencies from delegates
Bengaluru: A 57-year-old businessman from Hyderabad was arrested on charges of stealing foreign currencies from delegates attending conferences at a star hotel on Palace Road and at Indian Institute of Science. The accused is S Chintakindi Srinivasulu, who confessed to stealing currencies of US, Taiwan, Australia and Laos from delegates of both events. Srinivasulu, who told police he's into gemstone business, stole the currencies on June 23 and June 26. He found out about the events online — one was the annual meeting of APAC groups at Shangri-La Hotel on Palace Road. Another was a symposium at JN Tata Auditorium in IISc. At JN Tata Auditorium, he stole 200 Australian dollars and 7,000 Laos dollars. "The second theft came to light when we found during interrogation that he was present on IISc campus just three days after stealing currencies from Sheng." Probe revealed Srinivasulu wore a dark blazer at both events and spoke in flawless English. "He would target lone participants with bags. He would wait for the victim to leave the bag somewhere and then would open it and grab the currency notes," the officer added.
