Odell Beckham Jr. not the only New York Giants great linked to surprise reunion
Former New York Giants star Jason Pierre-Paul wants to return to the NFL in 2025. And he wouldn't mind if it were with the team that made him a household name. 'I think that'll be dope. Tremendous,' Pierre-Paul told ESPN Giants insider Jordan Raanan. 'To go back somewhere where my career started. The fans know me and know the type of player that I am. I'll always be that type of player and just give 'em everything I got, which I know it'll be more than enough.' While the freak athlete was seen as a bit of a project, his upside as a pass rusher was immense. And during his eight-year run with the G-Men, he showed that. Playing a key role in their 2012 Super Bowl victory. Earning Pro Bowl honors on two occasions and posting 58.5 sacks. However, his tenure with the franchise came to an unceremonious end in 2018 when they shipped him off to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a year after giving him a massive four-year contract worth $62 million. The man known as JPP and the Giants had a falling out due to issues with his immaturity that peaked with a 2015 fireworks accident where he lost two fingers. Jason Pierre-Paul stats (Giants career): 58.5 sacks, 432 tackles, 13 forced fumbles, 109 QB hits, 2 interceptions In Tampa, he would win a third championship in 2021. However, that season was the start of a steep decline in his production. And he was out of the league two years later following stints with the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and Miami Dolphins. He is hoping to make a return to the league in 2025. But that is likely a long shot at 36 years old. Advertisement JPP is not the only former New York Giants multi-time Pro Bowler who has been linked to an unlikely reunion. Former star Odell Beckham Jr. is a free agent, and there has been speculation he could return to the franchise that made him a superstar to help bolster the team's pass attack. Of the two, OBJ is a more realistic option for a reunion than JPP. Especially since the Giants' pass rush is so strong, and they could trade former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux before the season starts. It is possible the team signs the pair to one-day contracts so they can retire as members of the organization. Related: Should New York Giants bring back fan favorite Odell Beckham Jr.? Ex-New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul reflects on life-changing July 4 accident
10 years ago to the day, then-New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul made a mistake that changed his life. While celebrating the Fourth of July with his family, friends and neighbors, Pierre-Paul was lighting off professional-grade fireworks as he had done many times before. This time, however, things went awry and one exploded in his hand. The damage was significant. Pierre-Paul lost his right index finger and suffered extensive damage to his thumb and middle finger. He underwent multiple surgeries and spent weeks in the hospital. Many believed his NFL career was over. "In absolutely no way did we think he would play," former Giants vice president of player personnel Marc Ross told ESPN. "He's a medical marvel, really." While being rushed to the hospital, JPP recalls seeing the insides of his hand and nearly fainting. He pleaded with the doctors not to amputate his entire hand, although they did have to remove what remained of his right index finger. "I wouldn't want my kids to go through something I went through. ... I learned from it," he told ESPN. "At the end of the day, I'm a big person, but this happened to me. It could happen to anybody. "So put it out there. What's to be embarrassed about? There's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's just you live and learn from it." Remarkably -- almost unbelievably -- JPP returned to the Giants that season and appeared in eight games. He spent two more seasons in East Rutherford after that and played another six seasons in the NFL, picking up a second Super Bowl title along the way. Since his accident, JPP has become an advocate for fireworks safety. "My message to kids is you never know how life is going to go," he said. "Don't put yourself in a predicament that you're going to regret later." Although Pierre-Paul didn't play in 2024, he continues to train and wants to return to the NFL. He's sitting at 94.5 career sacks and wants to reach 100 before retiring. Ideally, that would come with the Giants. "I think that'll be dope. Tremendous," Pierre-Paul said. "To go back somewhere where my career started ... the fans know me and know the type of player that I am. I'll always be that type of player and just give 'em everything I got, which I know it'll be more than enough." While it's unlikely JPP returns to the Giants on anything other than a one-day contract, his story of perseverance is worth celebrating, as is his impact on the team.

JPP prepared to work with stakeholders to implement education programmes for the poor
BACHOK: The Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP) is prepared to collaborate with various stakeholders to implement education programmes aimed at eradicating poverty in the state. State Federal Development director Jasri Kassim said education is one of the key elements in the effort to eradicate poverty, implemented through various programmes involving multiple agencies and community groups. 'This education initiative must be prioritised so that, in the long term, future generations from poor backgrounds can break free from the cycle of poverty through the education they receive, whether at the basic level, such as reading, writing and counting, or through certificate programmes and higher education. 'With proper education, they will have better access to job opportunities that match their qualifications and skills,' he told Bernama after opening the Kelantan Reading Programme at Beach Boy Street, Pantai Melawi, here, today. He called on libraries, Members of Parliament and the community to set up knowledge zones and to approach the JPP for assistance with the necessary educational facilities. The Kelantan JPP, he said, had also implemented several educational programmes to assist in poverty eradication efforts, including helping schools to organise programmes such as tuition for students sitting for general examinations, such as the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). 'All parties need to play a role so that the poor in Kelantan do not fall behind in terms of education, which can help them get out of the poverty chain,' he said.

Navy officer honoured for heroic rescue at Teluk Batik
KUALA LUMPUR: While onlookers could only scream helplessly on the beach, Lieutenant Commander Mohd Firdaus Arbaain acted decisively, diving into the sea and swimming swiftly towards an overturned tourist boat to save lives, including two young children crying in fear. The incident, which occurred at Teluk Batik beach, Perak, in August 2023, was recalled with full reverence today as the Executive Officer of KD Sri Indera Sakti was the sole recipient of the Bintang Jasa Perkasa Persekutuan (JPP) at the Federal Awards, Medals and Honours Investiture Ceremony in conjunction with the Official Birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at Istana Negara here today. For Mohd Firdaus, 42, the award was not solely his, but a recognition of every hero and heroine of the nation who continue to serve the country and its people. "This is also a recognition for the Royal Malaysian Navy in particular, and the Armed Forces (MAF) in general. "I also dedicate this award to my family... when the incident happened, my wife and children were also at the scene," he told Bernama after the ceremony. Recalling the incident, Mohd Firdaus, who was then spending leisure time with his family, said he never expected that day would become a life-changing moment for many, including himself. While preparing to have a meal, he said his wife saw a boat carrying nine people almost capsizing, and in less than a minute, it overturned. He added that the screams of the passengers and the cries of children after the boat overturned spurred him into action, drawing on his ten years of experience as a member of the Naval Special Warfare Force (Paskal). "I mustered the courage to swim from the shore to the boat's location and handed over all the life jackets to the victims. I also helped to put life jackets on the two children of (Mohammad) Hafiz (Johari)," he said. In the incident, Mohammad Hafiz's wife, Nurul Afiqah Abdullah Sani, was found trapped under the overturned boat and died while receiving treatment at Manjung Hospital. His sibling and two children, along with four other individuals, survived. Mohd Firdaus said that although nearly two years had passed, the incident had left a profound impact on him. He said he got to meet up with the family last year when he was invited to be a guest on a podcast programme held in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, in conjunction with the Armed Forces Day celebration. "Only after the programme did he (Mohammad Hafiz) find out who had saved him and his family… I immediately went to meet him and his children in Parit Buntar. I also recently met them again in Langkawi during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA)… I brought them on a tour of the ship and the rest of the exhibition.
