SISTAR's Hyolyn draws criticism; comments on contestants' visuals from ‘Boys Planet 2' go viral
SISTAR's Hyolyn has recently joined the ongoing survival variety show 'Boys Planet 2' as a mentor to the contestants on the show. A recent comment from the 'Touch My Body' singer has gone viral online, after she asked whether the visual aspect of the competitors will go into account for evaluation or not.
Hyolyn's remark goes viral
During one of the recently aired episodes of the show, while all of the members, along with Hyolyn, were evaluating the performances of the contestants, the singer asked a question that ended up going viral online.
While evaluating, the singer asked her fellow mentor, JUSTHIS, if visuals of the person get evaluated as well. She asked, 'Do good looks also get included in the scores?' While JUSTHIS replied that he has been taking that into account, Hyolyn admitted that she had not been adding that factor in any of her evaluations so far.
Questioning her, JUSTHIS shared that it was an integral part of everything as they're idols. He shared, 'Doesn't that count as charm? Since they're idols…'
Netizens react
As soon as the video was shared online, it ended up sparking major debates about how an idol's skills are evaluated on such shows. Many commented that visuals are often given more priority over everything else, and that acts as a deterrent for the entire group.
One netizen commented, 'You people giving Hyolyn shit for caring more about vocals than visuals is why the current state of K-pop is just companies giving us slop after slop and forcing us to eat this shit when fans clearly want substance, but here we are', while another commented, 'putting hyolyn on as a vocal coach but not wanting her to judge based off vocals is CRAZY to me'.
