KZN baby found in pit toilet: 18-year-old mother appears in court
An 18-year-old mother has been arrested after her newborn baby boy was found in a pit latrine in Sundumbili, KZN, last Friday. According to The North Coast Courier, the teenager was arrested for ill-treatment of a child and child negligence. She appeared in the Nyoni Magistrate's Court on Monday. On Friday morning, a neighbour, known as Jabu, heard a baby crying while walking past the pit latrine. 'She went over to see what was happening and saw the baby lying on its back, looking up from the pit latrine,' said IPSS Search and Rescue operations manager Phumlani Vezi, the first emergency responder on scene. Jabu called for help and, with the assistance of other residents, removed the toilet seat and managed to safely retrieve the baby. She kept the newborn warm and safe until paramedics arrived. The infant was reportedly in good health when he was taken to Sundumbili Clinic for observation. According to Vezi, the baby has since been placed in the care of his grandmother. 'Pirates chairman will tame Mbule just like Jabu Pule'
Orlando Pirates legend Teboho Moloi is confident that the club chairman Irvin Khoza would know how to handle new signing Sipho Mbule. Mbule has a reputation for indiscipline, and last season, allegations of alcohol abuse resurfaced while he was on loan at Sekhukhune United. Despite his troubled past, Moloi believes Orlando Pirates will get the best out of Mbule this coming season. The 27-year-old is currently with the Buccaneers in their pre-season camp in Spain and is often hailed as one of the most naturally talented midfielders in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). The Pirates legend compared Mbule to former Kaizer Chiefs star Jabu Pule/Mahlangu. During his Amakhosi days, Jabu was a troublemaker but at Pirates, he showed maturity and discipline. 'Look at Jabu, he came to Pirates when no one would touch him really,' Moloi told iDiski Times . 'And what happened, the chairman even helped him find himself and his Mahlangu ancestors. Sipho is in good hands. There's nothing new with Pirates signing a player deemed as troublesome. We were problems ourselves. But the chairman has always proven to be a father before he can put on his chairman hat. 'Starting with the likes of myself and then Jabu [Mahlangu], Cheese [Lebohang Mokoena] and Gift [Leremi], the chairman handled us, and we all produced our best. I am not even concerned about the off-the-field antics that Sipho Mbule is said to have. 'He has joined a club where he will be reined in, and I am truly excited that he found a home where he belongs.' Mbule left Mamelodi Sundowns to join Pirates as a free agent after the Tshwane giants opted not to renew his contract. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
