‘Where is the fridge?': Shameless tenant goes viral on TikTok after brazenly stealing landlord's whitegoods

An anonymous landlord has revealed a truly bizarre WhatsApp exchange with their tenant after discovering several whitegoods in their furnished rental had disappeared. The renter, identified only as 'Katie', had lived in the partially furnished apartment, which included essential whitegoods such as a fridge, washing machine and dishwasher. Upon moving out of the apartment, Katie sent a polite WhatsApp message to the landlord and said she 'left the keys on the counter'. The exchange that followed has since gone viral on social media after the unwitting landlord realised Katie had loaded up her moving van with the landlord's own whitegoods. 'Hi, just wanted to say I've left the keys on the counter. Thanks for everything,' Katie said in her goodbye text message to the landlord. Minutes later, the landlord arrived at the property and got a nasty shock after realising about $2000 in whitegoods had disappeared. "Hi Katie. Just been to the property. Where is the fridge?" the landlord asked. Seemingly unfazed, Katie casually replied: 'Oh, I took it. Same with the washer and the dishwasher.' Taken aback by her response, the mystified landlord replied: 'Sorry? Those weren't yours to take. They were part of the tenancy.' Katie then attempted to justify the brazen theft, arguing: 'Yeah but I used them every day. I assumed they were mine?' The landlord then insisted the items be returned, but Katie continued to dodge requests to give the whitegoods back to their rightful owner. 'That's a bit awkward now. They're already in my new place,' Katie replied. The increasingly furious demanded she bring the gadgets back because 'they don't belong to you'. 'I genuinely thought they did. Like, I used them. They felt like mine,' Katie insisted. Incensed, the landlord replied: 'Katie. You've taken items worth over a grand. This isn't a grey area.' Remarkably, Katie even suggested the landlord make a false insurance claim for the items she admitted to stealing. 'Can't you just claim it on insurance or something? I'm not trying to cause drama,' she said. However, the landlord gave her one more opportunity to do the right thing as he accused her of 'theft'. 'If I don't have them back by Friday, I'll have to treat it as theft. This is serious,' he said. Katie ended the conversation with: 'Wow. Over a few appliances? Bit extreme, don't you think?' It is unclear how the dispute was ultimately resolved. The viral WhatsApp exchange was shared online by British real estate TikToker Jack Rooke. His video has been viewed more than 770,000 times, with hundreds of commenters weighing in on 'the tenant from hell'. 'Good on her, at least she got her deposit worth back,' one commenter joked. Several other landlords took to the comment section and shared their own horror stories of tenants stealing furniture and other items when they vacated a rental. 'My last tenant left with the fridge. Exactly the same conversation,' one landlord wrote. 'Our tenant took our bed,' a second unlucky landlord added. 'Tenants do this often,' a third landlord chimed in. 'Sometimes (tenants) go away with curtains and radiators. 'Not all do, but enough to be noticed.' One landlord even thwarted an attempt by their tenant to sell the landlord's own cooker on an online marketplace. 'We had this happen,' the landlord wrote. 'A tenant wanted to advertise the cooker as she didn't need it in her new place, the cooker which was listed on the inventory and was there when she moved in.'

Landlord sparks fury for implementing outrageous $50-a-night charge: 'How is this fair in any way?'

A landlord has sparked outrage after trying to charge her tenant $50 per night for having his girlfriend stay over. British property strategist Jack Rooke read out the shocking email exchange between homeowner Rita and her renter Cameron. Rita had emailed Cameron to inform him of a little-known 'house rule' that imposes additional charges for overnight guests. 'It's been brought to my attention that your girlfriend has stayed overnight on multiple occasions this month. As outlined in the House Rules, overnight guests must be pre-approved and are limited to two nights per calendar month,' Rita's email read. 'Beyond that, a £25 ($A52.50) per night charge applies to cover shared space use and utilities. This will be included in your next invoice.' However, Cameron pointed out that there was nothing in his tenancy agreement about guest charges or pre-approvals - as he slammed Rita for 'running a guest policy like a boutique hotel'. 'Who exactly is keeping tabs on my bedroom?' Cameron replied. The landlord insisted the rules were shared in his 'welcome email' and are 'clearly displayed on the hallway noticeboard'. 'Excessive overnight visits put pressure on the household. I've had complaints. If you want to avoid future charges, please limit stays or register guests in the log book provided,' Rita responded. Furious, Cameron fired back: 'Let me get this straight. You're charging me £25 ($A52.50) per night because my girlfriend stays over a couple of times a week? That's £200 ($A420) a month... for someone sitting on a sofa and using the kettle. 'You've made up some "guest log" system that isn't in the tenancy. There's no approval process in the contract. No mention of fees,' Cameron replied. 'I live here because it's what I can afford. Now you're trying to backdoor in hotel charges? No. I won't be paying.' He added that if the charge appears on his invoice, he will submit a formal complaint. While Rita understood his frustration, she warned him not to 'speak to me like that'. 'These rules are there to keep things fair,' she said. 'Other tenants manage their guests without issues, but I've had complaints in your case. This isn't personal. If you need me to resend the house rules, I will. If you can't follow them, I'll have to review whether this tenancy is still working.' However, Cameron refused to back down as he called on the landlord to 'review' his tenancy agreement as he feels this arrangement won't work for him. 'You know what? Review it. Go ahead. If you genuinely think having my girlfriend stay over three nights in a month is causing long-term impact to your kettle and your precious hallway, then this probably isn't the right place for me either,' he said. 'You've decided you're running a guest policy like this is some boutique hotel. You're billing tenants for having a personal life, and then acting shocked when someone pushes back. "House rules were made clear"? No, they weren't. 'You sent a welcome email with your preferences. That's not legally binding. The tenancy agreement says nothing about guest logs, pre-approvals or £25-a-night fines. You're trying to invent policies mid-tenancy and dress them up as boundaries. 'It's not professional. It's not legal. It's you overreacting. So yeah - review the arrangement. And while you're at it, review your understanding of landlord responsibilities.' It's unclear what happened next - but Jack disagreed with the landlord's move. 'She sounds like she's got control problems, we don't like people with control problems,' he said. The video has been viewed 540,000 - with many divided over the situation. 'If this is a shared house and he's renting a room, I'm actually with the landlord. It's not fair to his other room mates to pay extra for his girlfriend. If he's renting the place solo, he's in the right to invite anyone he likes over as often as he pleases,' one said. 'I'm on the landlord's side, other than it should be included in the tenancy agreement. If it's not in the tenancy agreement, then it's not a valid charge. But a charge for additional guests is reasonable,' another suggested. 'Well, first of all, a housemate snitched. Second, that's actually mad. Third, I've had housemates whose girlfriend pretty much were there all the time. Still snitching on them for that is crazy,' one explained. 'Doesn't matter if the landlord found out, they're not allowed to police when you have guests,' another added. RITA: It's been brought to my attention that your girlfriend has stayed overnight on multiple occasions this month. As outlined in the House Rules, overnight guests must be pre-approved and are limited to two nights per calendar month. Beyond that, a £25 ($A52.50) per night charge applies to cover shared space use and utilities. This will be included in your next invoice CAMERON: I've read the tenancy agreement. There's nothing in there about guest charges. No mention of pre-approvals either. Also, who exactly is keeping tabs on my bedroom? Derry Girls star 'becomes latest to sign up for Celebrity Race Across the World' after Strictly couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West

A sitcom star has reportedly become the latest star to sign up for the next series of Celebrity Race Across the World. Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn has joined the line-up taking on the travel challenge on the popular BBC series, according to The Sun. The actor, 32, began his career with roles in some of the UK's biggest soaps, including The Bill, Hollyoaks and Holby City. However, it was playing only boy and Englishman James Maguire, on beloved comedy Derry Girls that saw him shoot to fame. Dylan then took on the lead role in comedian Jack Rooke's semi-autobiographical Channel 4 series Big Boys for three seasons, playing a closeted uni fresher grieving the loss of his father. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Speaking about the show to Attitude: 'Everything about it was beautiful to me. I really wanted the part and to tell Jack's story as best I could. I'm really proud to be in it.' He also starred in 2022 miniseries Pistol, playing Wally Nightingale, who formed a band with schoolmates Paul Cook and Steve Jones in 1972, but was replaced by Johnny Rotten when they transformed into the Sex Pistols. And since February 2023, Dylan has starred as PC Kelby Hartford in Beyond Paradise, a spin-off of the hit show Death In Paradise. He will allegedly be taking a break from studio sets to race across continents in the gruelling Race Across the World special, with a teammate and no mobile phones. Representatives for the show declined to comment when approached by MailOnline. The last series of the celebrity version of the series saw Kelly Brook, Scott Mills, Jeff Brazier and Kola Bokinni face off against each other as they dashed across South America. Dylan's casting for the new series could see him joined by Molly Rainford and Tyler West, who were reported to have also signed up last week. The EastEnders actress, 24, and the broadcaster, 29, who met during BBC 's Strictly Come Dancing in 2022, are said to be taking on the travel challenge together. A source told The Sun: 'Molly and Tyler are a huge coup for the show. 'They're popular with millions of viewers from their stints on Strictly, and Molly will bring in loads of EastEnders fans too. 'They are a very adventurous pair and have brilliant chemistry, so bosses are confident they will become huge fan favourites.' Last year, Molly and Tyler moved into their first home together and began sharing their home improvements journey with their followers. Alongside a clip of the couple inside their new home and in the 'Strictly' ballroom doing a clapping routine, Molly wrote on Instagram: 'Well guys, it was only right that we let you into our little home, the next part of our journey starts now @homewithmolty.' At the end of the clip, Tyler quipped: 'We've got a lot of cleaning up to do babe.' After previously denying speculation they were dating, the pair posted a TikTok with Tyler seen placing his hand on Molly's leg as they recited lines from 'Friends'. The audio they used was of Rachel Green and Joey Tribbiani telling each other they knew Monica Geller and Chandler Bing were dating in secret. The clip was captioned: 'Did you know? @MollyRainford,' with Tyler adding a red love heart and a crying with laughter emoji. Molly has played Anna Knight on EastEnders since 2023, after starting her career on the CBBC, presenting Friday Download and starring as the titular character in sci-fi series Nova Jones. While she first came to fame after getting to the finals of Britain's Got Talent in 2012 and made new fans with her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022. After failing to win BGT when she was 11 years old, Simon and his record label sponsored her to go to the coveted Sylvia Young Theatre School. The prestigious London school has been a hotbed of talent for decades, producing singers including Adele, Dua Lipa, Amy Winehouse, Rita Ora, and Emma Bunton, plus actors Keeley Hawes, Nicholas Hoult and Daniel Kaluuya. Molly previously explained: 'I did Britain's Got Talent in 2012 when I was 11 years old. That definitely changed my life because after getting to the finals, I was sponsored by Sony Music and Simon Cowell to go to the Sylvia Young theatre school. From those auditions throughout school, I got into the CBBC world.' Music mogul Simon agreeing to sponsor her stage-schooling when Molly's family turned down his offer of a record deal, determined their daughter would not become a one-hit wonder. Molly voiced her gratitude to the Daily Mail in 2022, gushing: 'Simon is Mr BGT and he made that happen, I will always be grateful. It meant I could do what I love.'
