Republicans propose bill to rename the Kennedy Center to the Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts

Republican Representative Bob Onder has proposed a bill to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., after President Donald Trump. The proposed legislation, titled the 'Make Entertainment Great Again Act,' cites President Trump as a significant cultural icon and patron of the arts. This bill follows a separate amendment, introduced by Republican Representative Mike Simpson, to rename the Kennedy Center's Opera House after First Lady Melania Trump, which passed the House Appropriations Committee 33-25. President Trump recently replaced members of the Kennedy Center's board and became its chairman, stating his intention to ensure the institution was 'not going to be woke.' John F. Kennedy's grandson, Jack Schlossberg, has criticized these renaming efforts, suggesting President Trump is 'obsessed with being bigger than JFK.'

Kennedy war with Hollywood producer heats up as Jackie O's relative speaks out

Former Real Housewives Of New York City star Carole Radziwill slammed Ryan Murphy for saying what she called an 'awful thing' to Kennedy heir Jack Schlossberg amid ongoing tension between the two. Schlossberg, 32, is the grandson of the late president John F. Kennedy, while Radziwill, 61, is linked to the Kennedy family through her marriage to the late Anthony Radziwill, the cousin of the late John F. Kennedy Jr. Anthony tragically died from cancer at 40 in August of 1999 — a month after JFK Jr.'s July 16, 1999, death at 38 in a plane crash with wife Carolyn Bessette, 33, and sister-in-law, Lauren Bessette, 34. Murphy — the TV impresario behind franchises such as Glee and American Horror Story — put off Radziwil with his remarks last week on The This is Gavin Newson podcast. Murphy, 59, said Schlossberg slamming him over the upcoming series made for an 'odd choice' as he felt JFK Jr. was a relative Schlossberg 'really [didn't] remember' — as he was six-years-old at the time of the deadly crash. Radziwill tagged Murphy's company into a Threads post in which she said, 'I knew John, well. What an awful thing to say to Jack.' She continued: 'John and my late husband Anthony were Jack's godfathers, a role they delighted in. Your comments are unkind & hurtful.' Schlossberg responded to the remarks via his Instagram page last week, addressing Murphy, 'SAY IT TO MY FACE!' Schlossberg, a graduate of Harvard Law School, made clear he had a wealth of memories of JFK Jr. 'My earliest memories are of John calling me Jackolatern and 'the nudist,' picking me up from school, his Pontiac convertible,' Schlossberg said to more than 696,000 followers. The Ivy League alum continued: 'I remember being the ring bearer at his wedding and the day he died. I remember Wyclef singing at his funeral. 'More memories are passed down from stories — like the time he locked himself out of a car in an intersection and asked the guy screaming at him if he could borrow a golf club to smash the window to get the keys, and then did it.' Schlossberg accused Murphy of exploiting JFK Jr.'s legacy for profit. 'You're making millions off John, making a public spectacle of it but won't contribute any of your riches to the causes he championed, or the legacy of public service he represented,' Schlossberg said. Schlossberg responded to the remarks via his Instagram page last week, making clear he had a wealth of memories of JFK Jr. He added, in an ostensible reference to actor Paul Anthony Kelly, who plays John F. Kennedy Jr. in the limited series, 'Also odd that the actor playing the sexiest man alive is bloated!' Schlossberg last month explained his disdain for Murphy's portrayal of his family. 'Lately, my news feed has been filled with pictures of my uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., a great man,' Schlossberg said on Instagram Stories. He said that 'for those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with the new show being made about him, the answer is no, and there's really not much we can do,' as the late lawyer and magazine publisher was a public figure. Schlossberg said he hoped 'those making this show about him take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it, and that they donate some of the profits [from] what they're making to the John F. Kennedy Library.' The cast of the forthcoming Murphy miniseries also includes Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy; Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette; Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy; Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette; and Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein.

Kennedy heir mocks appearance of RFK Jr's wife weeks after vile Megyn Kelly slur

Kennedy heir Jack Schlossberg is back at it. This time, JFK's only grandson went after his uncle Robert Kennedy Jr's wife's looks - as he continued building a name for himself as an outspoken progressive influencer. 'I have never met Cheryl Hines but if I did I'd tell her she looks super dehydrated,' Schlossberg, 32, wrote on X on Wednesday. Schlossberg appeared to be using the Democrat actress' looks in an attempt to shine a light on Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr's controversial vaccine views. He continued the attack against Hynes on Instagram, sharing a picture of her and writing: 'CONGRATS!!! Most measles cases in 33 years.' Schlossberg also shared a post by Hynes where she showed a ripped shirt to the camera and wrote: 'It was a tough day at the dog park.' The Harvard graduate has previously suggested his outrageous posts are meant to catch the public's attention in the way that populists like Donald Trump have managed to in order to win elections. As part of his brand of progressive activism, Schlossberg has also repeatedly claimed Megyn Kelly is a man, over the conservative pundit 's support of banning transgender athletes from women's sports. Earlier this month, he wrote of the former Fox News anchor: 'Looking extremely feminine!! Very good. Now show us your c@&6,' he wrote at the time.' On Thursday, he wrote: 'Megyn Kelly's penis Is better than her Adams Apple. Change my mind.' The Kennedy heir also used a slang word for genitalia while going after Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan over her reporting on his Instagram battles. 'Sorry for the delayed response Maureen V****n! Just seeing your message now. You can see my response on Instagram,' he wrote, directing her to a series of posts where he told both her and Kelly to 'eat sh*t'. Meanwhile this week Schlossberg also targeted Dax Shepard and his wife, Kristen Bell, after the actor had comedian and former Trump supporter Andrew Schulz on his podcast Armchair Expert. Schultz described Schlossberg as a nepo baby who should not be the face of Democrats, saying: 'The face of the party should not be like a fourth generation, trust fund nepo baby who's never had a real job telling working class Americans…' Shepard added: 'And no friends that weren't white and also rich.' As a response, Schlossberg wrote: 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DAX SHEPPARD'S WIFE KRISTEN BELL. DAX SHEPPARD wonder if he'd ever have me on his podcast ? After he made racist comments about me ! DAX did you get face filler ?' Schlossberg is the son of JFK's only surviving child Caroline Kennedy and her artist husband Edwin Schlossberg. He has recently also been targeting TV producer Ryan Murphy, a fellow Democrat, over his upcoming American Love Story season, which focuses on the late John Kennedy Jr and his wife Carolyn Bessette. The couple and Bessette's sister Lauren Bessette tragically died in a plane crash in 1999 after the single-engine plane piloted by Kennedy crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Martha's Vineyard. On Thursday, Schlossberg wrote on X: 'Can someone please help me find out the NYC shooting schedule for American love story ? Times and locations.' Schlossberg, the son of the late John F. Kennedy Jr.'s sister Caroline Kennedy, has recently also been targeting TV producer Ryan Murphy, a fellow Democrat, over his upcoming American Love Story season, which focuses on the late John Kennedy Jr and his wife Carolyn Bessette Schlossberg has repeatedly demanded that Murphy give money to the Kennedy Center and accused him of exploiting the Kennedys. 'You're making millions off John, making a public spectacle of it but won't contribute any of your riches to the causes he championed, or the legacy of public service he represented,' he seethed.

JFK grandson rips move to name Kennedy Center theater after Melania Trump: This administration ‘stands for freedom of oppression'

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, is blasting a measure from House Republicans that would rename the Kennedy Center's famed Opera House in honor of Melania Trump. 'A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces — but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers,' Schlossberg, quoting his grandfather, wrote in a Tuesday post on Instagram. 'JFK believed the arts made our country great and could be our most effective weapon in the fight for civil rights and against authoritarian governments around the world,' Schlossberg, a vocal critic of President Trump, said. 'The Trump administration stands for freedom of oppression, not expression,' he added. '[Trump] uses his awesome powers to suppress free expression and instill fear,' the 32-year-old son of former U.S. ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg said. Schlossberg's social media post came after House Republicans on the Appropriations Committee approved an amendment to the interior, environment and related agencies annual spending bill on Tuesday that would rename the opera house in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts the 'First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.' Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) called the move an 'excellent way to recognize [Melania Trump's] support and commitment to promoting the arts.' The Opera House renaming effort came after the president, accusing the Kennedy Center of being too 'woke,' overhauled its board in February and named himself its chair. But Schlossberg said the potential name change to the prominent institution's Opera House was not 'about the arts.' 'Trump is obsessed with being bigger than JFK , with minimizing the many heroes of our past, as if that elevates him. It doesn't,' he said. 'But there's hope,' Schlossberg wrote to his nearly 700,000 followers, 'art lasts forever, and no one can change what JFK and our shared history stands for.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
