Nation's No. 1 Recruit Has Fiery Reaction to 4-Star EDGE Committing to Indiana

Nation's No. 1 Recruit Has Fiery Reaction to 4-Star EDGE Committing to Indiana originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In one of the more surprising developments, the Indiana Hoosiers went from historically irrelevant to a College Football Playoff team this past season. Advertisement Led by new head coach Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers posted an 11-2 record, securing more wins in his first season than the program had in the previous three seasons combined (9). Unsurprisingly, a historic season and trip to the College Football Playoff bodes quite well in recruiting. When it comes to their 2026 class, the Hoosiers have the No. 26 class in the country, and on Saturday, landed their fourth four-star commitment from EDGE, Ronelle Johnson. The Missouri native ranks as the No. 296 player in the country, according to On3, and chose Indiana over programs such as Missouri, Kansas State and Arkansas. While plenty of Hoosiers fans were thrilled, Johnson also got a shoutout from fellow Missourian and the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, Jackson Cantwell. Advertisement The five-star Miami offensive tackle commit took to the comment section to show his support. "🔥 🔥🔥," wrote Cantwell. Indiana Hoosiers head coach Curt Tannous/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Cantwell headlines a Miami class that ranks as the No. 10 class in the country, and is reportedly making $2 million per year. While Missouri isn't known for being a talent hotbed for recruiting, there are six recruits that hail from the "Show-Me State" who are ranked as four or five-star recruits in this class. Of those six, only one is committed to Missouri, which shows just how hard programs from around the country are coming for recruits like Cantwell or Johnson. Needless to say, the Hoosiers got a good one. College Football Recruiting: 5-Star Commits Over July 4th Weekend

ANN ARBOR, MI - OCTOBER 17: General view as the Michigan Wolverines kick off to the Michigan State ... More Spartans during the first quarter of the college football game at Michigan Stadium on October 17, 2015 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. (Photo by) College football recruiting commitments come earlier and earlier every year, but there's a long way to go till the Early Signing Period in December. Seven of the top 10 recruits in the 2026 class already committed including offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1 overall prospect who chose Miami in May. Plenty of names are still on the board with a number of decisions set to be made over the 4th of July weekend. The rush of commitments kicked off early when 4-star QB Luke Fahey (CA) chose Ohio State on Thursday night. The fun is nowhere close to being over as programs continue to build on their 2026 class, and here are five 5-star commitments to watch over the next few days. Star ratings are according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Felix Ojo Offensive tackle Felix Ojo (TX) will choose between Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida and Utah on Friday afternoon. He took official visits to all five schools recently with the Utes getting the final look last month. Ojo is trending toward the in-state Longhorns at this point and is rated as the seventh overall prospect, second offensive tackle and first and Texas. Calvin Russell Wide receiver Calvin Russell (FL) will reveal his decision on Saturday with a top three that includes Michigan, Florida State and Oregon. The Wolverines are considered the favorites a day before the announcement following his final official visit on June 20. If this comes to fruition, Michigan will continue to improve its future passing game after landing Bryce Underwood, the top overall 2025 prospect, with three wide receivers committed already. Jireh Edwards Safety Jireh Edwards (MD) will choose Alabama, Auburn or Georgia on Saturday after canceling official visits to Texas A&M and Oregon. Those were canceled following the OV to Alabama, and all signs point to the Crimson Tide adding one of the top 2026 safeties by the end of this weekend. Edwards is rated as the No. 23 overall prospect in the class. Bryce Perry-Wright Defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright (GA) is down to Clemson, Texas A&M, Texas and Miami with a Saturday commitment expected. Opinions are mixed on where he might land with Clemson taking an early lead, but Texas A&M appears to be in the best position at this point of his recruitment following a recent official visit. Perry-Wright is a top-five prospect in Georgia. Chauncey Kennon Cornerback Chauncey Kennon (FL) is expected to be the final 5-star prospect to make a decision over the 4th of July weekend at this point with a commitment coming Sunday night. The top contenders include LSU, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Miami and Florida State. The Seminoles are in a strong position to pick up the No. 2 overall cornerback prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. Enjoy what should be a fun weekend of college football recruiting.

Where UM stands in competition for numerous prospects planning to announce in next 2 weeks

The Miami Hurricanes already have a loaded 2026 recruiting class that is ranked sixth by 247 Sports and includes 18 players, a group led by offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, considered one of the nation's top five prospects. But Miami isn't done. The Canes are awaiting clarity from well over a dozen players, including several who are planning announcements in the next two weeks. An update on the players that the Canes have pursued, their announcement dates and where they stand: ▪ Planning to announce Thursday: Four-star safety Devin Jackson, who plays for The First Academy in Orlando. He says he will choose among Miami, Oregon, LSU, Florida and Nebraska. predicts he will pick Oregon. He had 80 tackles and two interceptions last season; 247 rates him the No. 22 safety in the country. ▪ July 5: Buford, Georgia-based five-star defensive tackle Bryce-Perry Wright, who will announce a school at 5 p.m. This has turned into an interesting three way battle among Clemson (which has been pegged for weeks as the favorite) and UM and Texas A&M, who are pushing hard for the 6-2, 250-pound lineman. 247 Sports ranks him the 32nd best player overall in the 2026 class and the No. 2 defensive lineman. ▪ July 5: Miami Northwestern five-star receiver Calvin Russell plans an announcement at 5 p.m. Saturday, but the odds seems against UM. Russell said this week that UM is not in his top three. He told 247 Sports that FSU, Michigan and Oregon are the schools 'I like the most.' Is there a chance he could pick one of the other schools not in his top five (LSU or UM)? 'Somewhat but not really,' he told 247. The 6-5 Russell is rated by 247 Sports as No. 3 receiver and No. 21 player overall. The loss of another local receiver, in the wake of former five-star Chaminade Madonna star Jeremiah Smith picking Ohio State two years ago, would sting for UM, which must hope that Russell is trying to fool everyone with his public comments. ▪ July 6: Two prospects - Texas-based four-star receiver Brayden Robinson and Sarasota Booker High five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon - are due to make their announcements on Sunday. UM reportedly is no longer in the mix for Kennon. 247 Sports - which ranks second among all cornerbacks and 27th overall - predicts he will pick FSU. The 5-8 Robinson, ranked 41st among all receivers by 247, is widely expected to select Notre Dame. ▪ July 11: Devonte Anderson, a three-star cornerback who attends West Orange High in Winter Garden, visited UM last month and will pick among Miami, UCF, Auburn, Rutgers, Louisville and Maryland. 247 Sports rates him the 88th best cornerback. ▪ July 12: Duncanville, Texas-based three star tight end Zachary Taylor reportedly is leaning toward SMU over Miami; the Mustangs have gained momentum and Arkansas has also been pursuing him. The Canes landed their first tight end commitment for 2026 when skilled receiver Israel Briggs committed to Miami. ▪ July 12: Brunswick, Georgia-based tight end Heze Kent, a 6-6, 310 pounder who is rated by 247 Sports as the No. 167 player overall in the class. Different web sites have each identified three different leaders for Kent in the past month: 247 predicts he will pick Miami, while other web sites have called him an FSU lean or a likely future Gator. Kent also can play offensive tackle. ▪ July 13: Blake Stewart, the three-star Atlanta based safety, has been one of several UM priorities. 247 Sports predicts he will pick Clemson but the Canes have given him something to think about. Cooper news Derrek Cooper, the Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna High multi-position star who has been a high priority for UM, this week canceled his plans to announce his school on July 12. 247 Sports is predicting he still will pick the Hurricanes, who would play him at running back. Texas, Ohio State and Georgia remain in the mix. Per MaxPreps, Cooper ran 124 times for 905 yards (9.3 per carry) and 13 TDs last season while also catching nine passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. 247 Sports rates him the No. 3 athlete in the country, the No. 6 player in Florida and the 39th best prospect overall. Updates on other '26 targets Meanwhile, the Hurricanes - according to Canesport - have pulled even with Michigan for the services of four-star Jacksonville Mandarrin cornerback Brody Jennings, who remains a Michigan commitment. Ranked by as the No. 18 cornerback and the No. 129 overall prospect, Jennings told Canesport this week that Miami and Michigan are 'the same' in his rankings after summer visits to both schools, with Florida and FSU also under consideration. ▪ UM also continues efforts to flip Mississippi-based Tristan Keys, an LSU commit and considered the top receiver in the 2026 class (and a top-five overall prospect). Texas A&M and Tennessee also are in the mix. ▪ UM remains eager to land four-star Mobile, Alabama-based edge player Anthony Jones (who is also considering Alabama and Texas A&M, among others) and Mississippi-based defensive tackle Nolan Wilson, with Alabama, Ole Miss, UF and Auburn among his other options. Meanwhile, three-star interior guard Breck Kolojay, who plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, is considering UM, Georgia and Southern California.

Miami Dealt With Concerning Update on 4-Star Targeted by Big Ten Power

Miami Dealt With Concerning Update on 4-Star Targeted by Big Ten Power originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Hurricanes are racking up major recruiting wins for 2026. Especially landing five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell and on Saturday, former Rutgers linebacker commit Justin Edwards. Advertisement But the 'Canes dealt with a concerning update involving one of their high-profile four-star targets remaining out there. Big Ten power USC looks in position to attempt to steer Breck Kolojay over to the Land of Troy. The IMG Academy star interior offensive lineman was favored to land in Coral Gables by multiple recruiting outlets. Even On3 handed Miami a huge lead. But USC insider for On3 Scott Schrader helped drop this new update Saturday. Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward drops back to Navarro-Imagn Images "As of today, this appears to be a USC vs. Miami battle and Kolojay is not in a hurry to make a decision," Schrader said. "That's not to say he won't choose a school in the near future, but his decision on a school could come in December." Advertisement Kolojay was also on the USC campus June 17, Schrader added. This update is still concerning for "The U." Kolojay is being courted by the nation's top-ranked recruiting class in USC. The Trojans already claimed one massive four-star win on Friday -- landing No. 1 New Jersey prospect and edge rusher Luke Wafle. But there's other advantages USC brings in courting Kolojay. USC's '26 class is headlined by his IMG Academy teammate and five-star tackle Keenyi Pope. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Kolojay also has ties to five-star tight end commit at USC Mark Bowman. "They both played youth football together in Colorado with USC commit Kannon Smith. We're told Bowman was the quarterback," Schrader said. He added he roamed the campus with the prized towering weapon Bowman while on his visit. Advertisement Kolojay has two prominent connections at USC who can help persuade him to chose the Land of Troy. Miami can help sell a potential powerhouse duo between he and the tackle Cantwell. The Hurricanes are also led by a former offensive lineman in Mario Cristobal -- which can help win over the versatile OL. But USC remains very much alive in trying to nab Kolojay -- which will hinder Cristobal and the Hurricanes' plans to keep building the trenches. Miami rose to No. 8 in the national recruiting rankings. But holds only one true IOL commit in three-star JJ Sparks. Georgia Dealt Brutal Blow on Star Playmaker on Monday

Georgia Dealt Brutal Blow on Star Playmaker on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The grumblings were true. The Georgia Bulldogs lost their top wide receiver commit for the 2026 class to a familiar foe. Advertisement Four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford flipped his commitment from the Bulldogs to the Miami Hurricanes on Monday. Both Rivals' Adam Gorney and On3's Hayes Fawcett reported the flip. Spafford will join five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, who was a top Georgia target, in Miami. Although they won't ever play with him, former Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck also landed with the Hurricanes this offseason. The receiver referenced the Hurricanes coaching staff and Cantwell's commitment as major factors in his decision to flip. 'Coach (Kevin Beard) is incredible,' Spafford told Gorney. 'He knows what he's talking about. Coach (Shannon) Dawson is incredible, too, and they're all communicating with me every day and really trying. Coach (Mario) Cristobal is phenomenal. That guy is great. Advertisement "The commitment with Jackson (Cantwell) is big as well. A good offensive line for a good quarterback is all I could ever want.' Georgia Bulldogs football head coach Kirby Smart© Dale Zanine-Imagn Images The possibility of Spafford decommitting from the Bulldogs has been discussed in recruiting circles for weeks. On3's Chad Simmons reported on June 13 that the UCLA Bruins and Washington Huskies were both trying to flip Spafford from Georgia. Those two programs appeared to be the biggest concern for the Bulldogs with Spafford due to the receiver being from California. But instead, Spafford will head to Miami. Based on the 247Sports Composite rankings, Spafford is the No. 9 receiver and 10th-ranked California prospect. He is also the No. 74 overall recruit in the class. Advertisement Without him on board, the Bulldogs have two receivers left committed for 2026 – Brady Marchese and Ryan Mosley. Both are three-star prospects.
