Motorcyclist, 18, killed in collision with Boynton Fire Rescue truck

BOYNTON BEACH — An 18-year-old Boynton Beach man was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle collided with a Boynton Beach Fire Rescue truck at a city intersection, police said Sunday. Jacob M. Chalmers was riding a 2023 Vitacci XMT 250 with a 13-year-old boy from Belle Glade southbound in the 1300 block of South Congress Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said in a report. At the same time, a northbound Boynton Beach Fire-Rescue truck, with lights and sirens on, was attempting to make a left turn into the Boynton Beach Professional Center at 1325 S. Congress Ave. As the truck, a 2018 Freightliner, made its turn, Chalmers' motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the truck, ejecting Chalmers and the 13-year-old, throwing them into the center lane of the southbound lanes of the road, deputies said. Chalmers was not wearing a helmet, but his passenger was, the report said. The fire truck, which was driven by a 27-year-old Boynton Beach man, came to an immediate stop inside the professional center entrance. Neither the driver nor his two passengers sustained any injuries, deputies said. The address for all three men is at Fire Rescue Station 2, according to the report. Chalmers was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he was in critical condition Sunday, deputies said.
