NFL.com has 3 Broncos on way-too-early All-Rookie Team

The Denver Broncos' 2025 draft class is making waves before the season even starts. Gennaro Filice recently named three of the newly drafted Broncos to his way-too-early All-Rookie team for 2025. On offense, Filice named running back RJ Harvey as his second All-Rookie RB behind No. 6 overall pick and AFC West rival, Ashton Jeanty. Advertisement "Harvey weighs 205 pounds, but his thighs appear to account for at least 100 of them," Filice wrote on "This helps explain the 5-foot-8 back's exceptional lateral agility and burst, traits that have many comparing him to last year's top rookie rusher, Bucky Irving. Running behind a premium offensive line and for an elite play-caller, Harvey has the opportunity to be a fantasy league winner in Year 1. Denver has a crowded running back room, especially after the free-agent signing of J.K. Dobbins, but that's nothing new for Sean Payton. The savvy schemer consistently finds ways to get the ball to his best players, and I think Harvey could be one of those on an offense I'm extremely high on." On the defensive side of the ball, Filice named Denver's first overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft, Jahdae Barron (20th overall) to his All-Rookie team as a nickel defensive back. "Denver's first-round selection of Barron took many by surprise, but defensive coordinator Vance Joseph called it a 'no-brainer' move for the franchise. 'He's a very mature, smart football player. My cousin (former Texas secondary coach Terry Joseph) actually coached him for three years in college, so I watched him play for a long time,' Joseph said last week. 'His ball skills, his combine workout -- entire process was really buttoned up, you know, so he was a can't-miss prospect for us.' "Helming a defense that emerged as one of the league's best last year, Joseph has plenty to be excited about this offseason. After adding linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga in free agency, the Broncos spent their top pick on a multifaceted cover man who should slot right in as the unit's starting nickel. NFL Network draft guru Daniel Jeremiah comps Barron to one of the most versatile and impactful defensive backs in the game today: Detroit's Brian Branch. Advertisement The Broncos had one more player appear on the All-Rookie team: punter Jeremy Crawshaw, who was the only punter selected in April's draft. "So, you're telling me the only punter drafted this past April is A) from the positional hotbed of Australia and B) now in the positional paradise of Denver," wrote Filice. "Lock it in! Crawshaw's going to send balls into orbit in the mile-high air -- I know Broncos special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi agrees. 'He is as talented as a punting prospect that I've ever had,' Rizzi said last week." If these three players perform as well as Filice projects, Denver will have a successful season indeed. PFSN ranks all 32 NFL defenses (Broncos are No. 1)

Sean Payton has worked hard to help turn the Denver Broncos into a turnaround story, taking the team from a disastrous 5-12 season with Nathaniel Hackett in 2022 to a 10-win season in 2024 that came with a playoff birth. While Payton and his offense, run by Bo Nix, has gotten a lot of praise, the Pro Football Network is here to remind you not so fast: can't forget about the Broncos' defense. Pro Football Network recently ranked its top defenses in the NFL going into the 2025 season. The website placed the Denver Broncos' unit as their top defense, citing Pat Surtain and the drafting of Jahdae Barron as reasons for their No. 1 ranking. 'The Denver offense gets plenty of attention because of its young quarterback and creative head coach, but this defense was as good as it got from start to finish a season ago, after grading 23rd in Defense+ in 2023. Patrick Surtain II is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and projects to stifle pass games for a long time. The Broncos also showed a lack of compliance during the draft, as they not only added Jahdae Barron (a corner out of Texas) with the 20th overall pick but also a pair of high-pedigree edge rushers in the middle of the proceedings. This is the gold standard for defense right now, and that doesn't appear likely to change given the roster they've constructed.' On Sept. 7, the Broncos will get a chance to put their top defense to the test against the Tennessee Titans when they open up their regular season (view the full schedule here). Bengals risk being only NFL team with 1st-round pick unsigned

Not that the Cincinnati Bengals pay much attention to outside public opinion, but the team is now one of just two franchises yet to sign their first-round pick this year. The Bengals with Shemar Stewart and the Denver Broncos with cornerback Jahdae Barron are the two teams left standing without a signature from their first-round picks. Advertisement Jacksonville shoved the Bengals into this bucket over the weekend by signing Travis Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick. RELATED: Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route The Bengals had to watch as Stewart bashed the organization publicly before leaving minicamp early recently. According to reports, the Bengals want to reset contractual language regarding guarantees, starting with Stewart as the first. The defensive end and his reps, naturally, don't want to be the first. It's hard to imagine the standoff bleeds too far into training camp, but it's equally hard to imagine the Bengals care that they're just one of two teams yet to wrap up what should be nothing more than a minor offseason bit of work. Two-way college star Travis Hunter signs 4-year, $46.6M rookie contract with the Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Two-way college star and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, the second overall pick in April's NFL draft, signed a four-year, $46.6 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The deal includes a $30.5 million signing bonus. Hunter had been one of three unsigned first-round picks, including Cincinnati edge rusher Shemar Stewart (17th overall) and Denver cornerback Jahdae Barron (20th). Under the NFL's slotting system, Hunter is expected to get $840,000 in base salary as a rookie, with his contract rising to $2.96 million in Year 2, $5.08 million in his third season and $7.20 million in his fourth. Like all first-round draft picks, Hunter's deal includes a club option for a fifth year. The Jaguars traded up three spots to select the former Colorado standout in the draft and are counting on him to help change the fate of the floundering franchise. And they expect him to play both receiver and cornerback as he did at Colorado and Jackson State. Hunter caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns last season for the Buffaloes and notched 35 tackles, 11 pass breakups, eight forced incompletions and four interceptions while allowing just one touchdown. The Jaguars traded up three spots to draft Hunter and intend to use him on both sides of the ball this fall, planning to have him working as a slot receiver on offense and as a cornerback in certain packages on defense. It's familiar territory for someone who played more snaps (1,461) than anyone else in college football in 2024. ___ AP NFL:
