No star, no action, yet this film became the highest-grossing Indian movie overseas, made in Rs 5 crore, earned Rs..., lead actors were... Indian films are enjoyed tremendously all over the world and this becomes the reason why a lot of Indian films have worldwide releases. Movies like Leo, Jailer, Pathaan, Gadar 2 have worked well overseas. But do you know which independent film with no stars and a low budget managed to surpass the biggest hits of Bollywood superstars- Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan? Made in Rs 5 crore, the film we are talking about is called Monsoon wedding (2001). How did the makers come with the idea of film Monsoon Wedding? Helmed by noted filmmaker Mira Nair, the film starred a talented ensemble cast including actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Lillette Dubey, Parvin Dabas, Vijay Raaz, Shefali Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Soni Razdan, Roshan Seth, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Newcomers Vasundhara Das, Randeep Hooda, and Ram Kapoor were also the part of the film. Backed internationally between companies from India, the United States, Italy, France, and Germany, Monsoon Wedding broke all box office expectations. Interestingly, screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan wrote the storyline about an Indian Family in Delhi while she was at MFA film program at Columbia University. She then pitched the idea to Director Mira Nair, who came on board, and that's how the film came to be known as Monsoon Wedding. How much Monsoon Wedding earned overseas? Monsoon Wedding became the first Hindi film to earn Rs 100 crore outside India. It saw a splendid success in North American Market and Europe, earning overall $30.8 million ( Rs 145 crore) worldwide. Before Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Aamir Khan's Dangal took the spot of highest-ever grossers, Monsoon Wedding enjoyed its success overseas. Monsoon Wedding was widely appreciated and received award nominations such as BAFTA and Golden Globe in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Moreover, it was highly applauded at 2021 Cannes Film Festival. It was also named as the 19th best romance of the 21st century by IndieWire in 2017. Monsoon Wedding beat SRK and Aamir Khan's hits Apart from appreciations, the film also surpassed the hits of superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. In 2001, when Monsoon Wedding released, SRK's Asoka and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham also had theatrical releases. Although, the films were successes overseas, but their combined overseas collection was just Rs 60 crore, lower than Monsoon Wedding. Even Aamir Khan's Oscar-Nominated film Lagaan, couldn't break Monsoon Wedding's record, earning just Rs 13 crore overseas.

‘Chikitu' from ‘Coolie' offers a different vibe, sparks mixed reviews
The much-anticipated collaboration between Superstar Rajinikanth, composer Anirudh Ravichander, and director Lokesh Kanagaraj for Coolie has taken a surprising musical turn with the release of the film's first single, Chikitu. Known for their electrifying combination—seen in past hits like the Jailer theme and Hukum—expectations were sky-high for an adrenaline-pumping mass anthem. However, Chikitu offers a very different mood. Unlike the thumping beats and high-octane energy fans usually expect from the Rajini-Anirudh duo, Chikitu is a relatively laid-back track with a distinct, situational vibe. While it carries musical appeal and is sonically rich, it's not the kind of song that instantly lights up dance floors or becomes a massive party staple. The song's teaser, featuring vocals by veteran TR Rajender, had earlier hinted at a pulsating number. Interestingly, his unique voice still anchors the track, particularly in its opening, which many consider the song's highlight. But as it progresses, the track shifts gears into a slower rhythm—an unexpected move that has left fans both curious and divided. While some listeners may grow fond of Chikitu after a few repeats, others feel it lacks the instant impact needed to significantly boost pre-release buzz for Coolie, especially with its theatrical release set for August 14th. This departure from the typical Rajini-Anirudh formula has sparked mixed reactions online. With Coolie being one of the most awaited films of the year, the pressure is now on the team to deliver a chartbuster that matches the hype surrounding Rajinikanth's massive return under Lokesh Kanagaraj's direction.

Massive crowd lines up in Mysore to greet Rajinikanth as he shoots for Jailer 2; watch his reaction
Nelson Dilipkumar is shooting for his upcoming film Jailer 2 with Rajinikanth in Bilikere, Mysore. Fans who caught a whiff of the Tamil star's presence there lined up in huge numbers to catch a glimpse of him. Take a look at how Rajinikanth reacted to seeing them there. Numerous people can be seen calling out for him with their phones whipped out. As fans follow his car, he can even be seen gesturing to them to be careful. The video also shows the police and Rajinikanth's security trying to manage the crowd as a large convoy of vehicles with the film's team, including Rajinikanth, passes by. Recently, Nelson even celebrated his birthday with Rajinikanth on the sets of Jailer 2. As he turned 41 on 21 June, the film's producers, Sun Pictures, posted pictures of his birthday on social media. Rajinikanth can be seen handing Nelson a bouquet in the pictures while Yogi Babu feeds him cake. Nelson looked happy to be celebrating the day with the actors on set. About Jailer 2 Rajinikanth reprises his role as Muthuvel Pandian, aka Tiger, for the sequel to the 2023 hit film Jailer. Ramya Krishnan is also back as his wife, Vijaya, aka Viji. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the film, which will hit screens next year. Apart from the confirmed cast, recently, there have been rumours that a Bollywood star will also feature in a cameo. Rajinikanth will also soon star in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, which will be released on August 14.
