Jaipur: Deputy CM and Vidhyadhar Nagar MLA Diya Kumari Saturday conducted an inspection of civic infrastructure and public facilities in her constituency. She expressed displeasure over broken roads, illegal encroachments, and poor sanitation, and took to task Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G) officials. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kumari highlighted the poor condition of the Ambabari drain, which was clogged with water hyacinth and garbage. She instructed civic teams to remove the vegetation and waste immediately and to develop the stretch into an alternative route to ease traffic congestion in the area. She directed that boundary walls be constructed around govt land to prevent further encroachments. She instructed JDA's zone deputy commissioner to remove encroachments from the Justice Daulatmal Bhandari Scheme and areas along the Dravyavati River corridor. Kumari called for a concrete action plan to ensure the timely development of parks and civic amenities in Ambabari. She also engaged with local residents, listened to their suggestions, and assured them that their concerns would be addressed.

Rs 500 crore in UD tax still unrecovered, no action on outsourced firm
Jaipur: Despite ongoing efforts to improve revenue collection, Jaipur Municipal Corporation- Greater (JMC-G) has not been able to recover Urban Development (UD) tax of nearly Rs 500 crore pending since 2007. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The civic body has begun organising tax collection camps across various zones to address this issue but officials admit that actual recovery remains poor. However, no action has been yet taken against Sparrow, the private company hired to assist with tax collection, despite its consistent underperformance. A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, admitted, "We have organised multiple outreach camps but response wasn't as expected. The backlog is significant and we are under pressure to show results." JMC-G has been outsourcing tax recovery operations to Sparrow for several years but there has been no major improvement in collection efficiency. Residents have also raised concerns about company's inconsistent service, lack of follow-up and limited accountability. An internal review of the collection progress reportedly showed no substantial year-on-year growth, prompting questions about corporation's continued reliance on same outsourced agency. However, no official action or penalty has been initiated against Sparrow so far. JMC-G officials say they are now exploring alternative methods and digital platforms to speed up collections and reduce dependency on third-party contractors. However, with financial year progressing rapidly and revenue targets still unmet, pressure is mounting on administration to act decisively.

Civic body faces criticism as stray dog attacks rise
Jaipur: The stray dog menace in Rajasthan has become a serious public safety issue, with rising dog bite cases causing widespread concern, particularly among parents. In several regions of the state, including Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Udaipur and Alwar, incidents made local parks and residential lanes unsafe for children and the elderly. Official data showed over 4.22 lakh dog bite cases were recorded across the state in the past year, averaging more than 1,100 cases per day. This surge led to an unprecedented demand for anti-rabies vaccines, with over 86,965 doses requested already in the early part of 2025–26. Amid growing public outrage, administrative authorities appeared to shift responsibility between departments. The health department stated its primary duty was to ensure vaccines and serum were readily available after a bite. Officials also emphasised the importance of proactive roles from municipal corporations and the animal husbandry department in prevention. Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G) in March 2024 awarded a Rs 2.1-crore three-year contract to Human Welfare Society for sterilisation and stray dog population control. Despite this, the city continued to register 17 to 20 dog bite complaints daily. JMC-G commissioner Gaurav Saini defended the civic body's actions, stating that the budget was being used appropriately, diseased animals were being identified, and sterilisation efforts were underway. However, Rajeev Chaudhary, Leader of Opposition in JMC-G, criticised the animal management wing of the corporation. "Jaipur has effectively become the dog bite capital. Mismanagement of tenders has only worsened the crisis," he said.

Street vendors to get spaces, loans under PM SVANidhi
Jaipur: State govt is advancing efforts to economically empower street vendors and hawkers by providing designated vending spaces and easy access to credit under the PM SVANidhi scheme. Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater has earmarked 27 vending zones, seven of which will be developed into Model Vending Zones. These zones aim to supply street vendors with structured spaces, enabling them to operate their businesses more efficiently and offering convenience to customers. A meeting chaired by Arun Sharma, chairperson of the street vendor rehabilitation committee, was held Thursday at JMC-G to review progress and implementation. Speaking at the meeting, Sharma said camps will be organised across all seven zones to offer eligible vendors collateral-free loans. "Initially, a loan of Rs 10,000 will be given without the need for a guarantor. If repaid within a year, the vendor will be eligible for a Rs 20,000 loan, and eventually up to Rs 50,000," he explained. Sharma also said 5,003 street vendors in JMC-G area will benefit from the initiative. Vendors without vending licences will receive them on the spot during these camps. Emphasising inclusivity, Sharma stated, "The goal of the PM SVANidhi scheme is to ensure benefits reach the last person in the queue." He added that no street vendor will be removed from their location during the monsoon season unless absolutely necessary. To address emergency issues faced by vendors, a dedicated helpline number will soon be launched to provide immediate support and grievance redressal. The PM SVANidhi scheme provides funding to local urban bodies to establish vending zones.
