Jamaa Islamiya denies reports about training camp in Aley
BEIRUT — Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, a Lebanese Sunni party affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, denied on Saturday reports by some media outlets about a training camp in Aley. Citing a judicial source, newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported Saturday that a training camp belonging to Hamas and Jamaa Islamiya was dismantled in the Aley region of Mount Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Saudi outlet television channel reported Saturday, citing Lebanese military sources, that a cell that was arrested three weeks ago in Aytat (Aley district) by the Lebanese Army includes 10 members of Hamas and Jamaa Islamiya's military wing. "We would like to clarify to the Lebanese public that the group does not have any armed training camps anywhere in Lebanon, nor does it seek to establish any. It is committed to civil peace and stability and has affirmed its cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities in Lebanon to consolidate this", the Jamaa Islamiya statement reads. The group added that it refuses to "provide any pretext for the Israeli enemy to continue its aggression against Lebanon, and has repeatedly affirmed its call for the adoption of a defense strategy in line with the speech of His Excellency the President of the Republic regarding national security and its requirements." Members of the Jamaa Islamiya's al-Fajr Brigades had claimed several military operations in southern Lebanon during the war between Israel and Hezbollah, who opened fire on Oct. 8, 2023, in support of its Palestinian ally Hamas in the wake of Israel's war on Gaza. Several of the group's fighters have also been killed during the war and after the cease-fire.

Jamaa Islamiya leader killed in Israeli strike south of Beirut
Israel on Sunday said it killed two senior members of Hezbollah in a series of air strikes. (AP pic) BEIRUT : A military leader of Jamaa Islamiya, a Lebanese Islamist group allied with Palestinian group Hamas, was killed today in an Israeli strike south of Beirut, a security official told AFP. According to the Lebanese civil defence, 'an Israeli drone targeted a car' near the coastal town of Damour, about 20km south of Beirut, and rescuers recovered a man's body from the vehicle. The security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the strike killed Hussein Atoui, a leader of Jamaa Islamiya's armed wing, the Al-Fajr Forces. The group is closely linked to both Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah. It has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks against Israel during more than a year of cross-border hostilities, including two months of all-out war, before a November ceasefire. Israel has regularly carried out strikes since the truce came into effect, and two unclaimed rocket attacks from Lebanon targeting Israel were reported on March 22 and 28. The Lebanese army announced last week that it had arrested several Lebanese and Palestinians responsible for the shooting, which a security official said included three Hamas members. One Killed in Israeli Drone Strike in South Lebanon
An Israeli drone strike on a Lebanese border town on Sunday killed one person, Lebanon's health ministry said. The ministry reported in a statement "one martyr" from "the drone strike launched by the Israeli enemy on the town of Halta,' in southern Lebanon. Local media said the man was killed while working on his chicken farm. Israel has continued to carry out regular strikes in Lebanon despite the November truce that sought to halt more than a year of hostilities with Hezbollah, including two months of all-out war. A pair of Israeli strikes on Tuesday killed a leader of Jamaa Islamiya in Baawerta, on the coast south of Beirut, and one person who Israel said was a local Hezbollah commander in south Lebanon's Tyre district.

Two killed in Israeli drone strikes in Lebanon
Two militants were killed on Tuesday in separate Israeli drone strikes in Lebanon, according to security sources. Lebanon's civil defence agency and police sources said that an Israeli drone struck a vehicle near the town of Baawerta, about 20 kilometres south of the capital, Beirut. Shortly afterwards, another Israeli drone targeted a truck in the town of Hanniyeh, in southern Lebanon, killing a Hezbollah operative identified as Ali Hashem Kayed, according to security sources. Footage shared on social media appeared to show the truck being hit by a projectile, followed by a scene in which a man - reportedly the Hezbollah member - is seen running before being targeted again. The Israeli military later confirmed that the man was a Hezbollah operative, saying the air force had targeted and killed him. Earlier in the day, Jamaa Islamiya (Islamic Group), a Lebanese Islamist faction allied with the Palestinian group Hamas, confirmed that its member Hussein Izzat Atwi was "assassinated by treacherous Zionist forces" in the drone strike south of Beirut. The group condemned the killing as a "cowardly crime." Lebanese security sources also identified Atwi as a prominent commander in the al-Fajr Forces, the armed wing of Jamaa Islamiya. The Israeli military confirmed the killing of Atwi, describing him as a "significant terrorist" within Jamaa Islamiya. "Over the years, he carried out rocket attacks, coordinated terrorist infrastructure on the northern front, and advanced infiltration attempts into Israeli territory," the military said, claiming that Atwi had also been involved in directing terrorist attacks against Israelis abroad. Jamaa Islamiya maintains strong ties with both Hamas in Gaza and Lebanon's Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement. It has been actively involved in cross-border attacks targeting northern Israel over the past year. Despite a ceasefire brokered between Israel and Hezbollah in November, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have continued in recent months, while rocket fire from Lebanese territory has persisted sporadically - including two unclaimed attacks on March 22 and 28. Last week, the Lebanese Army announced the arrest of several Lebanese and Palestinian individuals allegedly involved in the rocket attacks. According to security sources, the detainees included three Hamas members.
