Bahrain a ‘model in promoting solidarity'

The Kingdom of Bahrain serves as a model in promoting the principles of the Bandung Declaration, promoting solidarity among nations. Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council and Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Delegation, made this statement during his address at the 4th Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Bandung Spirit. The conference, titled 'The Role of Parliaments in Promoting the Bandung Principles,' was held on the sidelines of the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The Bahraini delegation was also represented by His Excellency MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, His Excellency Dr. Bassam Ismail Al-Binmohammed, and His Excellency MP Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al-Shuwaikh. The forum focused on a draft resolution regarding the two-state solution in Palestine from a gender perspective. According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation called for increased support for initiatives empowering women to lead in diplomacy, non-governmental organizations, education, human rights, and economic development. The delegation stressed the importance of establishing laws that ensure women's rights and enhancing their role in peacebuilding efforts. Fakhro highlighted the necessity of involving women in negotiations and reconstruction activities to achieve peace. The delegation also comprised Hala Ramzi Fayez, a member of the Shura Council and the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians; Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, member of the Shura Council; M P Maryam Saleh Al Dhaen, and MP Dr. Mahdi Al Showaikh. Tashkent: The Parliamentary Delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the 215th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Governing Council, held in Uzbekistan, as part of the 150th IPU Assembly. According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation was represented by Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council and Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Delegation; Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, Member of the Shura Council; Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al Shuwaikh; and MP Maryam Saleh Al Dhaen. During the session, Tanzila Norbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of Uzbekistan, was elected President of the 150th IPU Assembly. The meeting reviewed the report of the 214th session of the Governing Council, presented by Tulia Ackson, President of the IPU, highlighting activities undertaken by the Governing Council and Executive Committee during the previous term, as well as initiatives launched during her six-month presidency. Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the IPU, presented the 2024 Impact and Outlook Report, an update on progress made under the IPU Strategy 2022-2026, and the Union's financial performance and status report. The session also discussed proposed amendments to the IPU Statutes and Rules, and participating parliamentary leaders and representatives explored key priority areas for the IPU's 2025 agenda.

TDT | Manama A parliamentary delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrain took part in a joint meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) legislative councils and the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC), held today (Saturday) on the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), currently underway in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Bahraini delegation was represented by His Excellency Mr. Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council and Deputy Head of the Bahraini Parliamentary Delegation, and His Excellency MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives. The meeting was chaired on the GCC side by His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, Member of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates and representative of the Arab Group in the IPU. The session was attended by distinguished representatives of the GCC legislative councils. On the GRULAC side, the meeting was led by His Excellency Manzoor Nadir, Speaker of the Parliament of Guyana and Chair of GRULAC, with the participation of several parliamentarians from Latin America and the Caribbean, who expressed their warm welcome to the Gulf delegation and highlighted their interest in fostering dialogue and joint cooperation. The meeting focused on exploring avenues for mutual cooperation and strengthening parliamentary relations through the exchange of expertise and greater coordination in international parliamentary forums. Participants also discussed mechanisms for aligning and coordinating positions on the key issues listed on the agenda of the 150th IPU General Assembly and the 215th session of the Governing Council. GRULAC is one of the six geopolitical groups of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. It comprises parliaments from over 30 countries in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, working to enhance collaboration and coordination among its members on matters of shared interest within the IPU framework.
