‘American Idol' Champ Jamal Roberts Debuts at No. 1 on Hot Gospel Songs Chart With ‘Heal'
Newly crowned American Idol winner Jamal Roberts, a 27-year-old gym teacher from Meridian, Miss., debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Gospel Songs chart (dated May 31) with 'Heal.' He capped off his championship run on the ABC competition May 18 with a stirring rendition of the faith-based track, which was written by Tom Odell, who released his version in 2013. Released May 18, Roberts' 'Heal' sold 9,000 downloads in the United States in the week ending May 22, according to Luminate. It tops Gospel Digital Song Sales, marking his initial No. 1; he previously hit No. 4 with 'He's Preparing Me' earlier in May. On the all-genre Digital Songs survey, 'Heal' opens at No. 2, granting Roberts his first top 10 in his rookie appearance. The spiritual power ballad also drew 918,000 official U.S. streams in the tracking week. Notably, the three acts' haul outpaces that of American Idol contestants from a year ago, when champion Abi Carter was the sole competitor to appear on the Digital Song Sales chart (dated June 1, 2024) following the finale, with 'This Isn't Over' (No. 23; 2,000 sold). Brandy & Monica Announce ‘The Boy Is Mine' Co-Headlining Tour With Kelly Rowland, Muni Long & Jamal Roberts: All the Dates
Actually, the boy is theirs. Nearly 30 years after they topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks with their timeless duet 'The Boy Is Mine,' Brandy and Monica are teaming up for their first-ever co-headlining tour. As announced Tuesday (June 24), Brandy and Monica will launch their co-headlining The Boy Is Mine Tour on Oct. 16 at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati. The 24-city trek will visit arenas in major U.S. cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York before concluding Dec. 7 at the Toyota Center in Houston. 'This really is a full-circle moment,' Brandy, who landed at No. 41 on the Billboard staff's 75 Best R&B Singers of All Time list, said in a press release. 'Monica and I coming together again isn't just about the music — it's about honoring where we came from and how far we've both come. 'The Boy Is Mine' was a defining chapter in R&B, and to share the stage all these years later is bigger than a reunion — it's a celebration of growth, sisterhood, and the love our fans have given us from day one.' The R&B icons, who reunited on 2012's 'It All Belongs to Me,' announced their new tour with a cinematic short film helmed by filmmaker and production designer Ethan Tobman, who has worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. Set in a maximum sound asylum, the tour trailer finds Brandy and Monica using their powerful and 'forbidden' harmonies to break free. 'The love that 'The Boy Is Mine' continues to receive means everything to me,' Monica said in a press release. 'This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us. Brandy and I have been on our own unique journeys, and coming back together in this way is a reminder of the power of respect, strength, and real music. Loxley 8-year-old surprised at OWA as ‘Magic Moments' families celebrate
FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — It's tradition, one day a year, Magic Moments families enjoy all that OWA has to offer free of charge. Mobile secures historic funding for affordable housing 'We have a heart for our state, our people. We just want to give back. That's what we do,' said Poarch Creek Tribal Council member Sandy Hollinger. For almost 300 family members who have been granted wishes in the past by Magic Moments, it was a day of celebration. 'This is the seventh time we have done it,' said President and CEO of Creek Enterprises, Cody Williamson. 'Hopefully, we will do it a lot more after this.' The Murphy family, from Loxley, arrived at OWA with a secret. 'We've known for a while. We haven't told her,' Emily Murphy said in a whisper. Their daughter Johanna, adopted four years ago from India, would be the latest recipient of a Magic Moment. The 8-year-old was born with a genetic disorder called sacral agenesis that requires her to use a wheelchair. That doesn't stop her. She does just about anything she wants, and she loves amusement parks. The visit to OWA was about to get even better for Johanna. Thanks to Magic Moments, the Murphy family received a 'Passport to Magic' donated by the Poarch Creek Indians. The 'Theme Park Experience' began at OWA and will continue to Disney World, SeaWorld, and Universal Orlando. 'It is a blessing to my heart to know that there are good people who want to support those families that need it,' said Murphy.
