Drama in Darwin as V8 Supercars is marred by TWO crashes just 15 seconds into the race

Broc Feeney has extended his lead at the top of the Supercars standings, holding onto pole position to win a crash-filled first race of the Darwin Triple Crown. The Triple Eight speedster's third consecutive win opened up his championship gap over teammate Will Brown to 107 points, keeping his cool despite the chaos unfolding behind him on Saturday. Feeney held off Tickford's Cam Waters at the opening turn and remained in front until the end. Waters opted to change all four tyres in his compulsory pit stop, sacrificing time off the track in the hope his fresher tyres would give him a speed boost to haul down Feeney later in the race. While he closed the gap to 1.7 seconds, it was not enough to haul down the 22-year-old, even with a clutch issue hampering his drive. 'It was super stressful. I didn't know how it was going to go,' he told Fox Sports. 'But it was awesome fun. Cam chasing me down, it was super hard out there. Hot, stressing, I had lots of stuff going in my head. 'I bloody love coming to Darwin, so stoked to win here.' It's Feeney's fourth race win at the venue, having won both races in 2024. It took just one turn for the first big shunt of the race to bring out the safety car. Wheel contact from James Golding fired Jaxon Evans into the barrier at the exit of turn one at high speed, dislodging his front left wheel and ruling his car out of the rest of the day's action. Thankfully, Evans walked away from the incident unscathed, except for a slightly sore foot. There was more drama straight off the restart. The grid was pinched together as drivers jostled for position on the 1.1km-long straight; at one point cars were five-wide as braking ahead squeezed the available space on the track. ABSOLUTE CHAOS ON THE SAFETY CAR RESTART! We're under control of the bp Ultimate Safety Car once more! #RepcoSC #Supercars — Supercars (@supercars) June 21, 2025 Broc Feeney escaped the carnage to claim victory in his Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaro Contact amid the cramped conditions sent Jack Le Broq into the wall, losing his front-left wheel, and seconds later a tangle between Nick Percat and Richie Stanaway on turn five left the PremiAir Racing man with heavy damage. Meanwhile, Ryan Wood's Ford Mustang lost power and emerged immobile out of the chaos. Walkinshaw Andretti United later revealed his car had suffered engine failure and was in doubt to start in race 18. We had to wait until lap 12 for the first green lap of the race. Off the second restart, Brodie Kostecki bumped past Matt Payne on the inside of turn one to move into third position and was handed a five-second penalty as a result. Payne eventually finished in third, while Brown managed to close six spots to finish in eighth after failing to make the top 10 earlier for both races. Hometown hero Bryce Fullwood narrowly missed out on a podium, finishing four seconds behind Payne in fourth. Feeney will start from pole position again in the second 120km race of the day, which kicks off at 3.40pm (AEST).

Review: Rockwater – A Coastal Gem Where Food, Art And Music Meet

© Rockwater Hove Just over an hour from London, nestled along Hove's serene seafront, Rockwater is far more than just a beachside restaurant—it's a fully-fledged destination for those in search of exceptional food, art, music and an atmosphere of easy-going coastal cool. While Brighton may steal the headlines with its bustle, Rockwater is a reminder that space to breathe and a light-filled interior can elevate a dining experience—and lunch on the roof terrace here proves the point. The venue itself is a curated experience with interiors designed by Rockwater's founder and interior designer Ricci Tamagna. Pop Art and seaside-inspired pieces from Brighton's Helm Gallery line the walls, and you can't miss the specially commissioned seagull sculpture by Amber-Jane Raab, a playful homage to the coastal setting. But the star of the show is the food—specifically, the new fish-forward lunch menu created by renowned chef James Golding, whose culinary pedigree includes Le Caprice and Soho House. Golding's approach is rooted in seasonality and locality, with a coastal theme that sings in every bite. His deep connection to local produce and suppliers is evident, making each dish feel like a love letter to the Sussex shoreline. Golding is Chair of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Sustainability Committee and also works with the Table Talk Foundation helping children develop healthy relationships with food and cooking. © Rockwater Hove On a sunny afternoon, there are few better spots than Rockwater's roof terrace, where sea views stretch endlessly and the salt air enhances every mouthful. I began with Jersey Rock oysters, served ice-cold and briny-fresh—the perfect opening act. Next came the Atlantic prawn cocktail, a clever reimagining of the 1970s classic with plump, sweet prawns and a subtle kick of spice. For vegetarians, the New Forest asparagus is a standout: simply prepared, intensely fresh, and full of flavour. Atlantic Prawn Cocktail at Rockwater Hove © Rockwater Hove Expect a generous selection of local seafood for mains and I went for the Dover sole with brown shrimps, shallots and parsley, which was delectable. Cooked to perfection and bathed in a golden butter, it was a dish that showcased both restraint and richness—something Golding clearly balances with ease. Adding to the experience are the interiors–decorated with a neutral, beach-inspired palette of sandy tones with hand-woven lampshades–and the great service from the team headed by the affable and infinitely knowledgeable General Manager Patryk Szymanski. Fatboy Slim performing at Rockwater Hove © Rockwater Hove Beyond food, Rockwater thrives as a hub of arts, culture and wellness. Whether it's live music—spotlighting local and international talent—or unique experiences like sound baths and puppy yoga, there's always something happening that encourages connection and discovery. That ethos comes from founder Luke Davis, who launched Rockwater in 2020 with a vision of creating a collective community space. A highlight of Rockwater's cultural programme is the Summer Sunset Sessions on the Roof Terrace, where recent live sets have featured performances from Hove's local Superstar DJ Fatboy Slim. Puppy Yoga © Rockwater Hove With menus inspired by creatives like Margo in Margate, a fellow coastal artist, and a setting that at the height of summer feels more Côte d'Azur than English Channel, Rockwater is a destination that speaks to lovers of the sea, good food, and artistic inspiration. Highly recommended—and well worth the trip. The Roof Terrace at Rockwater Hove © Rockwater Hove

Defender backed for EFL loan after impressing at Shrimpers

JAMES Golding has been backed to secure a first Football League loan after impressing while at Southend United this season. The 20-year-old Oxford United defender spent the first half of the campaign with Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United and then switched to the Shrimpers in December. He played 14 times in the National League for Southend, scoring three goals, however a groin injury ruled him out from the end of March, so he therefore missed out as the Shrimpers battled to the play-off final, where they were beaten in extra-time by Oldham Athletic at Wembley. Golding made his U's debut in October 2021, and has played nine times for the club across all competitions, including two starts in Sky Bet League One. Alongside fellow United academy graduate Josh Johnson, he signed a new contract with the club at the end of May. READ AGAIN: James Golding and Josh Johnson sign new deals We caught up with the Southend Echo's Shrimpers reporter Chris Phillips to get the lowdown on how Golding fared at Roots Hall. How would you rate James Golding's time at the club overall? James was excellent for Southend. It was a real blow when he got the injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season. I think all Southend fans would love to him back here next season but probably realise it's quite unlikely given the potential he showed while at Roots Hall. To be honest, there's been so much drama in Southend's games in recent weeks it already seems about a year since James played for us. His main strengths would definitely be his ability to bring the ball out from the back. I think that's what made him stand out. He also chipped in with a few goals before he got injured. Weaknesses? I don't remember too many at all to be honest but think there were a couple of times he lost his man from a corner who scored. He's a very good player though. What do you think the next step should be for the defender? To keep playing and developing. If he's not going to involved for Oxford, then maybe another loan to a club in League Two or League One would be good for him.

Young duo sign new deals with United

OXFORD United duo James Golding and Josh Johnson have both signed new deals with the club. The 20-year-old players have featured 16 times between them for the U's, although neither have made an appearance for the club since January 2024. Johnson featured in two separate loan spells for Maidenhead this season, and played in 22 National League matches. United have reported that the two players will 'remain with the club ahead of the 2025/26 season'. U's head of football operations Ed Waldron told the club website: 'It's really important for the club to have a strong core of young, promising players who have been developed within our system. 'Josh and James are two players who have shown real qualities over each age group and have since enjoyed strong loan spells at first team level across the pyramid. 'We look forward to continuing to work with both as they aim to make an impact on our men's first team group.' CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE OXFORD MAIL ONLINE (Image: Newsquest) Both players are understood to have impressed United head coach Gary Rowett from afar, with Rowett previously suggesting that he wants younger players to have a more prominent squad role next season, as opposed to having senior professionals on the fringes and not getting minutes. Rowett previously said: 'We've got quite a big squad, and I think something we need to do next year is maybe create more of an opportunity for some of the younger players to come through from the academy and some of the younger players that have been on loan. 'There'll be an opportunity for some of those to stake their place, and then maybe we can streamline and create a little bit more value from the places that are currently left. 'I would always work off an ideal number. That ideal number would always have probably four young players within that, so if you do get a spate of maybe six or seven injuries, a couple of those young players can come in and be part of the matchday squad because they're training with you all the time. 'That's preferable to me to do that rather than two senior players. You've seen it this season. We've had two or three senior players sat out of the matchday squad for most of the time.'
