Man accused of shooting neighbor during argument in Victorville
An argument between neighbors in Victorville over the weekend resulted in one man hospitalized with gunshot wounds and another jailed on suspicion of attempted murder, officials said.
The shooting took place about 3:20 p.m. Sunday in a residential neighborhood in the 11700 block of Sierra Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
James Warren Martin, 67, of Victorville became involved in an argument with a 33-year-old neighbor on the neighbor's front yard, sheriff's officials said in written statement.
"Martin fired several gunshots at the victim, striking him in the back," the statement said.
The victim was taken to a hospital before deputies arrived at the scene, officials said. An update on his condition was not available.
Deputies surrounded Martin's home and ordered anyone inside to come out.
Ultimately, they obtained a search warrant to enter the home, but only found the suspect's female roommate inside, sheriff's officials said. She was arrested on suspicion of violating the terms of parole stemming from a prior conviction.
Martin turned himself in at the Victorville Police Department just after 8 p.m., according to sheriff's officials and county jail records. He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a firearm.
Bail was set at $2 million pending an arraignment hearing, which was scheduled Tuesday in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
No further details were available.
