Walsall's Jellis charged with betting breaches

Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis has been charged with misconduct for allegedly breaching the Football Association's rules on betting. The 24-year-old is accused of placing a total of 2,248 bets on matches between 30 April 2019 and 4 July 2023. All the alleged bets took place before he joined the Saddlers from Tamworth, then in National League North, in January 2024. After leaving Stevenage in 2020, Jellis spent four years in non-league before getting another chance in the English Football League with Walsall. He has made 57 appearances for the Saddlers, scoring seven goals. Jellis has until 29 July to respond to the charge. "We will be supporting Jamie throughout the process," said a brief Walsall statement on the matter.

Wanderers linked with Preston and Walsall midfield talents in summer search

WANDERERS are one of a cluster of clubs in the market for Preston North End midfielder Ryan Ledson, reports claim. The 27-year-old former Everton youth product will leave Deepdale at the end of the season after seven years in the Championship. The Daily Record claim that Hibs – who will be in European competition next season – head a list of teams who are interested in his services on a free transfer. Another of Ledson's former clubs, Oxford United, Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle have also been linked with his signature. Jellis is currently involved in the League Two play-offs, and the Saddlers are keen to keep him if they are promoted to League One. But clubs higher up the ladder – including Blackpool and Wycombe – are also interested in the 24-year-old, who has made his way back to EFL football through the non-leagues after a spell with Stevenage in his teens. Jellis has scored seven times in 52 games for the Saddlers this season and with Steven Schumacher looking to add some youth to his squad for next season, the Aylesbury-born playmaker could fit the bill.
