Wanderers run the rule over experienced former Wigan Athletic keeper

Jamie Jones was playing for Salford in League Two last season (Image: PA) WANDERERS have taken a look at ex-Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Jamie Jones on trial. The 36-year-old Kirby-born stopper was at Salford City last season and has reportedly been offered another deal by the League Two club. Advertisement Jones played the second half of Saturday's behind-closed-doors game against Tranmere Rovers and could yet feature down the line in Bolton's pre-season. But he has not travelled with Steven Schumacher and the squad to their training base in Marbella. Jones has played more than 400 career games in the Championship, League One and League Two and helped Wigan to promotion as champions in 2017/18. Wanderers released Nathan Baxter in the summer and have now sold Luke Southwood to Bristol Rovers, leaving on-loan keeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe and untested 22-year-old Luke Hutchinson as their only goalkeeping options. The team have now travelled out to Spain to begin a week-long warm weather camp designed to integrate their new signings and help Schumacher to bed down the style of football he wants to play this season. Advertisement Sharman-Lowe, Sam Dalby, Xavier Simons, Richard Taylor, Charlie Warren, Thierry Gale and Amario Cozier-Duberry are out with the squad and are hoping to feature in Friday's friendly against Orlando Pirates.

US farmers struggle to face unprecedented threats to key crop: 'It really is kind of like a 1-2-3 punch'

Connecticut farmers are having a hard time with their crops due to lingering issues from extreme weather events, according to Westchester News12. Strawberry crops in the state are still suffering ill effects from wildfires and floods from two years ago. The excessive moisture has introduced multiple fungal diseases that had not been seen in New England prior. "When you accumulate all those stresses on the plant, it really is kind of like a 1-2-3 punch on a lot of them," said Shelton farmer Jamie Jones, per Westchester News12. While the Canadian wildfires impacted crops, human health also suffered significantly. Previous studies suggest that the Connecticut agricultural industry has lost upwards of $50 million between 2023 and 2024 due to flooding. Food crops of all kinds are being challenged by increasingly destructive weather patterns, and along with them, the livelihood of many farmers. This instability can directly lead to price increases at the grocery store, which means more food insecurity, and in some parts of the world, migration as a result. It's possible to reduce personal pollution by making your next car an electric vehicle, switching to a heat pump from a gas heating source, exploring a meatless diet, and using more solar power. While each of these has loads of benefits to end-users, the climate benefits cascade to the farmers growing our food. While strawberry crops in Connecticut face challenges, good weather this spring has provided some relief. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station is working on more resilient strawberry strains that can deal with increasingly challenging weather. "If we can try and keep the plant really healthy – in about a one- to two-month window when the disease problem is really bad, we might actually be able to get it through that danger point and then … basically it can go dormant, and we can get potentially another full crop out of it the following year," said the Station's Nate Westrick, per Westchester News12. Paradise Ibiza Returns to Egypt for 2025 Beach Edition at Ras El Hekma

Jamie Jones brings Paradise Ibiza back to Egypt's North Coast with a sun-drenched lineup set to take over Solare on July 11th. Jun 15, 2025 Paradise Ibiza, the legendary party series helmed by Welsh DJ and producer Jamie Jones, is heading back to Egypt, taking over the scenic shores of Solare in Ras El Hekma on July 11th. The brainchild of UK DJ and producer Jamie Jones, Paradise began as a residency at Ibiza's DC-10 and quickly grew into one of the island's most influential party series. Its expansion to Egypt, brought through Misr Italia Properties, reflects the country's rising presence on the global clubbing map, especially along the North Coast. Headlining the day-into-night affair is Jamie Jones himself, joined by a handpicked crew of international heavyweights: Germany-based DJs Seth Troxler and Kolter, Danish-Filipino DJ Manda Moor, and UK tech-house favourite East End Dubs. Representing the local scene is Egyptian selector Youssef Awadly, known for sets that stitch together groove and grit with North Coast flair.

VVS budget fails: What happens now?

VERNON, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Voters went to the polls all over the Mohawk Valley on Tuesday to vote on school budgets for the 2025-26 school year. While most of the budgets passed with considerable margins, one managed to get the disapproval of voters. The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill budget failed on Tuesday, May 20, needing a supermajority of 60% due to its tax levy increase of just under six percent. However, its 612-574 approval did not meet that criteria, which leaves its board of education making plans for next steps. The district's $48 million budget only carried with it an increase of less than one percent from last year's budget. With the failure of this budget, the school board — of whom three are newly elected as of Tuesday night — will have to consider one of two options: move forward with a contingency budget or revote the budget, either as-is or reworked. Should the board send a contingency budget to a vote, the district would have to cut almost $1 million — just over one percent — from the current budget. According to the district's newsletter, that would mean suspending or outright eliminating programs and reducing staff. It could also mean losing extracurricular activities, including all athletic programs. An adoption of a contingency budget would also mean — according to New York State Education Law — that the district would not be able to move forward with a proposed capital project at E.A. McAllister Elementary in Sherrill. The district would also be forced to charge organizations for the use of school facilities. According to the district's newsletter, a budget re-vote is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17. There is no set date yet for the board to meet to work on a contingency budget or rework the defeated budget. Meanwhile, the other measure for the district — bonding for the purchase of four buses and two vans — passed by a vote of 742-440. Alana Boylan, Jamie Jones, and Thomas Moats all won seats to the Board of Education. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
