The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police have issued a travel advisory for July 2 due to the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and current road conditions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). Amarnath Yatra: Preparations Set to begin on July 3, the Amarnath Yatra has already registered over 3.3 lakh pilgrims. The administration has deployed 50,000 security personnel, along with drone surveillance, facial recognition systems, and multi-layered security grids. Drills have been conducted, and no-fly zones declared to ensure maximum safety. Pilgrims are required to carry a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) and must adhere to traffic regulations and cut-off timings on the designated routes. Camps have been set up with sanitation facilities, RFID tracking, hot meals, and support staff as part of a comprehensive zero-waste initiative. To manage vehicular movement and minimise congestion, heavy vehicles are being rerouted via alternate roads like the Mughal Road, and daytime travel is strongly recommended due to landslide and shooting stone risks between Ramban and Banihal. Traffic Plan For July 2 (If Weather Permits) Allowed on NH-44 (Both Directions): Yatra vehicles, cars, taxis, and passenger buses. Heavy trucks (HMVs) will move on alternate days, based on road and weather conditions. Cut-Off Timings (July 2): Nagrota (Jammu) to Srinagar: 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar: 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM Qazigund to Jammu: 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM No vehicles will be allowed before or after these timings. Travel Recommended During Daylight Due to the risk of falling stones, particularly between Ramban and Banihal, all passengers and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) are advised to travel only during daylight hours. Advisory For Goods Carriers Vehicles carrying perishables or livestock must follow official traffic instructions. Ensure your vehicle is properly loaded, in good condition, and sufficiently fuelled. Fruit trucks from the Valley must be parked and loaded by 9:00 am between NAVYUG Tunnel and Levdoora. Dhar Road Access Only Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) with 6 or 10 tyres will be permitted to use the Dhar Road route. HMV-Specific Guidelines HMVs may move from Jakheni to Srinagar only with real-time clearance. No HMV movement after 7:00 PM. Essential goods carriers (fuel, LPG, FCI) and empty trucks (up to 10 tyres) must return to Jammu via Mughal Road, not NH-44. Amarnath Yatra 2025 begins Today: With the annual Amarnath Yatra beginning today, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory for July 2, 2025, amid fragile road conditions along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Security measures have been stepped up along NH-44 as the Amarnath Yatra got underway on Wednesday. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first group of pilgrims. The Yatra will officially begin on July 3, with devotees set to proceed via both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Officials reported that delays were observed between June 30 and July 1 due to three heavy vehicle breakdowns and narrow single-lane movement at Nashri-Dalwas and Marog-Kishtwari Pather stretches. Valid ID required post cut-off timings Travellers from Reasi, Katra, Udhampur, Patnitop, Doda, and Ramban must carry valid photo identification to cross checkpoints after cut-off timings from Jammu or Udhampur. Daylight travel is strongly recommended Due to frequent incidents of shooting stones, especially between Ramban and Banihal, commuters, particularly light motor vehicle (LMV) users, are urged to travel only during daylight hours. Goods carriers transporting perishables or livestock must comply with official traffic directions. Vehicles must be well-fueled, mechanically sound, and loaded appropriately due to narrow and poorly maintained highway stretches. Fruit growers transporting produce from Kashmir must complete vehicle loading by 9:00 am at designated spots between the NAVYUG Tunnel and Levdoora. HMV movement guidelines due to Amarnath Yatra Heavy vehicles from Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar will be allowed depending on real-time road and weather updates. No HMV will be allowed after 7:00 PM, and clearance will be ensured via coordination between TCU Udhampur and TCU Ramban. Essential goods carriers such as fuel tankers, LPG trucks, FCI vehicles, and empty HMVs (up to 10 tyres) are required to use the Mughal Road instead of NH-44 for return trips to Jammu. Alternate route updates NH-244 (Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag): Based on weather and NHIDCL clearance, LMVs and High-Powered Small Vehicles (HPSVs) will be allowed in both directions: Parana to Anantnag: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Daksum to Kishtwar: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Only designated HPSVs will be allowed as per SDM guidelines. Mughal Road (Poonch–Shopian) Upon GREF clearance, LMVs and private vehicles can travel in both directions. Livestock-carrying HMVs (up to 6 tyres) are allowed from Poonch to Shopian between 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM as per District Magistrate orders. Amarnath Yatra security tightened Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, on Tuesday, said that comprehensive security and administrative measures have been implemented to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage as the Amarnath Yatra begins on July 3. Speaking to ANI, Birdi stated, "In a few days, Amarnath Yatra will begin. J&K police and the administration have made elaborate arrangements. From a security perspective, we have also implemented multi-layered and in-depth arrangements for how the police and other security forces respond to various security scenarios. Rehearsals and mock drills will also be performed."

A mudslide disrupted traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district, prompting a travel advisory NEW DELHI: A mudslide in the Chamba Seri area of Ramban district disrupted traffic along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) on Thursday morning. In response, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police issued a travel advisory asking commuters to avoid the route until the weather improves and road clearance is India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Jammu and Kashmir from May 9 to 12, warning of thunderstorms and lightning. Several other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, are also expected to witness rain and storms till May 11. Punjab and Haryana are likely to receive showers on May 10 and IMD forecast suggests a gradual rise in temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next three days in East India. A similar increase is expected across Northwest India over the coming in Himachal Pradesh recorded fresh rainfall on Tuesday afternoon. Light to moderate rain is likely in the plains and mid-hills till May 8, while snowfall is expected in the higher thunderstorms and gusty winds have been predicted in districts such as Chamba, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur. Isolated hailstorms may occur in Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, and to IMD data, rainfall across the state for May so far has been 22% above normal. While Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts reported below-average rainfall, six districts recorded higher than normal levels, and others remained close to the monthly average.
