Delhi govt to inaugurate 34 new Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs
New Delhi: The Delhi government is set to inaugurate 34 new Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs across the city by next week, bringing the total number of such centres to 67, officials said on Tuesday. There are presently 33 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs operational across Delhi aiming to provide holistic, accessible and affordable primary healthcare. The addition of 34 more centres this week will mark the second phase of the rollout. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh told PTI, "We will inaugurate 34 more Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs this week. In the third phase of the rollout, the total number will rise to 80." He emphasised the initiative reflects the government's strong commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring better services for Delhi residents. The initiative is being positioned as a corrective step toward bridging healthcare gaps that the government claims were neglected by previous administrations. "These are not just buildings. They are centres of primary care and prevention - areas that were lacking in the previous government's approach," Singh said. The district-wise distribution includes around five new centres in central Delhi, four in east Delhi, and several others across north east, north west, south east and west Delhi. Most of these centres are being established by upgrading existing mohalla clinics, dispensaries, and polyclinics. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet inaugurated 33 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the city last month. The government has set an ambitious target of establishing over 1,100 such clinics across the capital. Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs are a component of the Union government's Ayushman Bharat initiative . After the BJP came to power in Delhi, the state government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre earlier this month to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the capital -- fulfilling a major poll promise of the party. Additionally, Rs 320 crore has been proposed for the expansion of Health and Wellness Centres and Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs to strengthen primary healthcare services through the establishment of 400 new HWCs and AAMs.

Jamnagar: In a major boost to affordable healthcare in Gujarat, Jamnagar MP Poonamben Maadam inaugurated the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra on Wednesday at Guru Gobind Government Hospital. The event saw the presence of the city's Mayor, BJP leaders, and the District Chief, marking a significant milestone in the region's healthcare infrastructure. The Jan Aushadhi Kendra, part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), aims to make quality medicines accessible to all, particularly the economically weaker sections, at significantly lower prices. The initiative fulfills Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'quality healthcare for all.' Speaking to IANS, Maadam said, 'We are committed to making healthcare affordable and accessible to the people. This Jan Aushadhi Kendra is a step towards that goal. I urge citizens to buy medicines from here — they are effective, safe, and far more affordable than branded alternatives.' She emphasised that the Jan Aushadhi Kendras offer a wide range of essential medicines, from diabetes care to daily health needs, at reduced prices. Several such Kendras have already been established across Jamnagar city to cater to the local population. Launched in November 2016, the PMBJP is a flagship initiative by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India. The goal is to make high-quality generic medicines available at affordable rates through Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country. These generic alternatives match the quality and efficacy of branded drugs while easing the financial burden on patients. The PMBJP currently offers an impressive product basket of over 2,000 medicines and 300 surgical items, covering a broad range of therapeutic categories. This ensures that citizens can find effective treatments without compromising on quality. The scheme has witnessed exponential growth. As of October 20, 2024, Jan Aushadhi medicine sales for the financial year 2024-25 had already crossed Rs 1,000 crore, a testament to the program's success and public trust. Notably, in September 2024 alone, the sales touched Rs 200 crore. The number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has skyrocketed from just 80 in 2014 to more than 14,000 today — a 170-fold increase in a decade. This expansion demonstrates the government's unwavering commitment to reaching every corner of India with affordable and reliable healthcare solutions. With growing support from citizens and government alike, the PMBJP continues to transform India's healthcare landscape — one affordable medicine at a time.

On Doctors' Day, Delhi CM Gupta vows to transform capital into medical hub
New Delhi: Marking Doctors' Day , Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta engaged with the city's medical fraternity on Tuesday, where she lauded the role of doctors in nation-building and outlined her government's roadmap to develop the capital into a premier medical hub. In a gathering held at the Delhi Secretariat, the chief minister met with eminent members of the medical community under the banner of the Delhi Medical Forum. In her address, Gupta described doctors as "messengers of God" and acknowledged their unparalleled service to society, particularly during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. She urged them to support the government's efforts to reform Delhi's struggling healthcare infrastructure and asked for a symbolic "return gift" on Doctors' Day - their collaboration and guidance to make the city a model for citizen-centric healthcare. Cabinet minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa was also present at the event, along with medical professionals, who were felicitated for their contributions. The chief minister proposed the establishment of a dedicated medical university in Delhi to offer world-class education and further boost the city's medical profile. "Just like Kota is known for education, Delhi should become the first choice for quality treatment," she said. Later in the day, Gupta attended a special programme titled Sant Ishwar Samvad at the LNJP Hospital, where she hailed doctors as divine figures. Addressing gaps in the healthcare system, Gupta pointed out the discrepancy between Delhi's image and the actual state of infrastructure. Talking about how Delhi has just 0.42 government hospital beds per 1,000 people, Gupta announced, "We aim to raise that to at least three beds per 1,000 in the next five years." The chief minister highlighted several recent initiatives, including the permanent appointment of 1,500 nurses after a 15-year delay, the revival of 24 long-defunct hospital campuses, and plans to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras in all government hospitals - with 17 already operational. Modern diagnostic machines such as CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasound equipment are being procured on priority. To ensure better accountability, each government hospital will soon have a dedicated superintendent. Basic facilities such as waiting areas, clean toilets, and drinking water are also being upgraded. Emphasising the government's 24x7 mission-mode approach, she reiterated her commitment to improving medical infrastructure, expanding educational opportunities, and creating a stress-free environment for doctors. Additionally, she also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for transforming healthcare and education across the country and pledged to make "Viksit Delhi" a reality in line with that vision.

CM Rekha Gupta seeks doctors' support to turn city into medical hub
NEW DELHI: CM Rekha Gupta on Tuesday sought the support of doctors in transforming the national capital into a medical hub on the occasion of National Doctors' Day. Interacting with doctors at the Delhi Secretariat, she acknowledged their invaluable contribution to society. Addressing the gathering, Gupta said, 'A doctor is not just a professional, but a divine figure. When the thread of life weakens, it is the doctor's hand that holds it together. Doctors are the backbone of India's healthcare system.' She described doctors as 'representatives of God' and recalled their tireless and fearless service during the Covid-19 crisis. She emphasised that doctors remain committed to their patients, regardless of the hour or emergency. Expressing concern over the gap between the glorified health model of previous governments and the ground reality, she said many medical students still live in dilapidated hostels. Highlighting infrastructure challenges, the CM noted that Delhi currently has only 0.42 government hospital beds per 1,000 citizens. However, the government aims to raise this to at least 3 beds per 1,000 within five years. Gupta shared that, for the first time, 1,500 nurses have been given permanent appointments—pending for the past 15 years. Additionally, 24 hospital campuses shut for over two decades are now being revived. Every hospital will now have a dedicated superintendent for better accountability. Modern machines such as CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds are being fast-tracked. She added that Jan Aushadhi Kendras are being opened in all government hospitals, with 17 already functional.
